  • Verizon Gives It’s Tour Customers Push To Talk With The 5.0 Update

    PTT or Push To Talk, is a feature Verizon offers on their sturdy rugged phones. It’s a favorite of construction workers, city workers, even ranchers and farmers. But with the update of the Tour, it’s a feature offered to all Verizon Tour customers. Let’s take a closer look at the new Push To Talk feature.

    Verizon has listed the Push To Talk for the Tour. What is Push To Talk? Here’s Verizon’s description:

    Make quick exchanges.
    Push one button to contact team members or clients.
    Place group calls.
    Hold conversations with as many as 50 total participants.
    Check team member status with Presence.
    See who is available for a Push to Talk call.
    Manage contacts for the entire company online.
    Add, delete and assign contacts, create groups and more.
    Use one number, one device.
    Make and receive voice calls without needing a second device or phone number.
    Enjoy coast-to-coast coverage.
    Connect on our nationwide broadband network, and get expanded coverage across the United States within the National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Area.
    Push to Talk on BlackBerry.
    Get instant two-way communication at the push of a button with Push to Talk on the BlackBerry, now available on the BlackBerry® Tour™.

    Now if you have Verizon and a Tour, if you upgrade the OS with 5.0, then you have the Push To Talk Capability. After you upgrade you have a limited time offer to call to get in on the free offer. You can call either the Business side at 1-VZW-4BIZ or 1-800-2-JOIN IN for consumers. After calling, you are free to go to download the app. This is either in the Application Center or the VZW bookmarked page under the services. After downloading the app, you can go to Options, Push To Talk, and enable. This will now make the left side shortcut key open the push to talk.

    So what exactly are the features of the Push To Talk? You can find Verizon’s Push To Talk FAQ’s here. You can find instructions, a coverage map, and answers to many questions you may have.

    Let me show you a few of the features of the Push To Talk features of the Tour.

    First you need to add contacts. You add them by their phone number. They must be Verizon Push to Talk customers for them to be enabled as users. You can also designate groups and temp groups for your contacts. You can add, delete, and rename your contacts.

    To add a contact, you can either click on the left shortcut key or by clicking on the Push To Talk icon. Click the menu button and choose either new PTT Contact or New PTT Group. You can also rename your contact should you save and realize you need to change the name. Click the option button and choose save when you’re done. After the contact is added , you are given the choice of Alert, Call, or SMS your contact, to add to group or copy to contact book. You also have an option called Filter. Filter is to choose a category to view, such as PTT Contacts (Only Show PTT contacts), PTT Groups (Only Show PTT Groups), and Presence (Only show online PTT contacts and groups). Make a group by choosing new group, and when you name and save it, go into it and from there you can click the option button and choose Edit or Add Group Member. From your PTT Contacts, you can choose who to add to the group. You can edit or delete members as you go.

    It’s extremely easy to use, much like a walkie talkie. After setting up your contacts, you can access the app by either clicking the left shortcut key, or clicking on the PTT icon. You can send an alert to do the Push to Talk to your contact which alerts them and they accept, or you can do what is called a Barge Call which is where it goes straight through. This is great for the coworker, spouse, or teen that never answers their calls the first time.

    Talking on the PTT requires that you hold down the left side key while speaking into the phone. Release when you are done. It will tell you talking or listening as the other person is speaking. It takes a little practice, but it’s extremely useful. So if you have Verizon and want or have the Tour, now you can hurry and get the Push To Talk feature free.

    When in a Push To Talk call, regular phone calls will not come through as in call waiting. They will be directed to your voice mail. If you are in a regular phone call, the Push To Talk caller will get the message that you are unavailable. Also, you cannot call someone with Push To Talk using just the prefix and number, nor can you use the one. You must dial the area code, prefix, and the number to be able to call using Push To Talk.

    When you want to disable the Push To Talk feature, you can do so by going to Options, Push To Talk, and disable.

    Not only did the Push To Talk feature come out with the Tour, but also the Backup Assistant which is nice for the users who don’t ever use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Let me explain this though…The Backup Assistant ONLY backs up your contacts. Not pictures, not texts, not emails, ONLY contacts. The BlackBerry Desktop Manager can do a backup of ALL your settings, messages, and you can back up pictures and ringtones. Keep this in mind. If contacts are your only concern, then you’re set. Both the Backup Assistant and the Push To Talk features are new to a smartphone, let alone a BlackBerry.

  • Super QWERTY Updates To v1.3.0 Adding More Apps and Support

    I apologize with being a little late with this one. Owen from MMMOOO let us know that Super QWERTY has been updated making it even better. Super QWERTY is a short cut application available in the BlackBerry Sync App Store, it gives you one key access to all your favorite and most used apps. So what has changed you ask?

    Vlingo has been around for a while. I remember it back when it was free for all, and it was a great way to drive. In fact, there were many BlackBerry users who used the BlackBerry for this very app. And it has grown, improved, and become a more versatile application. Simple use with the touch of a button. Let’s take a look…

    Vlingo is available in the BlackBerry App World or from the Vlingo website itself. The description of Vlingo for those of you who have never heard of Vlingo is as follows:

    Vlingo gives you the freedom to speak into to your BlackBerry in place of typing. Go hands-free, whether for work or for play.
    NEW FEATURE: SafeReader – have your incoming text and email messages read to you while you are on the go!
    Use your voice to…..
    • send a text or email message to any contact
    • search the web using Google or Yahoo!
    • call a friend
    • update your Facebook or Twitter status
    • open native and 3rd party applications
    • Instant messengers: including BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), AIM, Yahoo, Windows Live
    • Virtually any application

    I downloaded and installed Vlingo Plus which is only $19.99 on my BlackBerry Tour 9630 with 5.0. It installed quickly and easily. There’s an interactive set up during which Vlingo helps you set your shortcut key and also scans your contacts. Here’s an interesting thing to remember. I have two different gmails on my phone, both were synced, however only one has family in it. The Vlingo the default synced contacts, not all the ones in the book. So I had to be sure that both of my gmails were synced with the same contacts.

    So after it’s set up, you can go into the options and personalize it, perhaps make changes to what you’d like. I’m going to walk you through the application first. Clicking on the icon brings up a page with three sections: What Can I Say? Tell A Friend..; and SafeReader.

    What Can I Say? This section explains how you can control your phone with voice and gives you examples. You can do a web search by voice, Dial with the command Dial or Call which you can do by name or number, Facebook status in which you can update your status by voice, Twitter updates, email which is exclusive to the paid version, Note to Self, Open Applications such as Open Calendar, and another feature of the paid is to use it within other applications. So if you are in BlackBerry Messenger you are able to hold the button down and say what you want to say and it will be spell it out for you to enter. Now the new feature: Hear incoming messages, turn on Vlingo SafeREader to hear the first 30 words of text or email messages read to you.

    Tell A Friend lets you email a friend to tell them about Vlingo and how it’s really been a value to you.

    SafeReader is the last part of the page which allows you to turn it on or off.

    Clicking on your options key brings up Help and Online Support, as well as Options. I’m going to take you through the options next.

    There are six sections in options. The first is General. This section is where you choose which key will be the voice key, the voice key behavior of Anywhere or Only On Vlingo Home, the language which can be US or UK English, Profanity Filtering which can be set to on or off, Vlingo Everywhere Behavior which can be set to Show Popup or Paste Immediately, Location Awareness which can be set to on or off, and how you want your contacts sorted.

    The next section is Audio. In this section you can set Alert Tones to On or Off, Volume to Quiet, Normal, or Loud, Text to Speech Voice which can be set to Male or Femaile, TTS Playback which can be set to Off, Brief, or Full, and TTS Playback for Bluetooth.

    The Applications section has SafeReader which can be set to SMS and Email, SMS Only or Email Only, the Web Search engine which you choose either Yahoo or Google, Note to Self in which you can Add Memo, Add Task, Send SMS to Self, or Send Email to Self. It also includes Twitter in which you set your login credentials, Auto-Dial which can be turned on or off, and Auto-Dial Behavior which can be set to Less Frequent, Standard, or more Frequent.

    Next is Tagline. In this you can set the Email Tagline, SMS Tagline, and Facebook Tagline to be on or off. The Network Section has Auto Configure which you can Run Test. You can set the connection type to Direct TCP, BIS, or MDS.

    Save your settings and you’re ready to use Vlingo. I tested this out with text, emails, in applications, and allowed the SafeReader to read. It works amazingly. For calling and texting it is so easy. You hold the key down, you see it listening and you speak into the phone as you hold the key down. I say “Call John” and it brings up John as it calls. I try holding the key down and say “Message to John, Message ‘What time did you say?’” and Vlingo types it up and I only have to hit send.

    Using Vlingo in applications is easy too. I’m in the BlackBerry Messenger, I hold the key down while in chat and say what I want to answer and it sets to paste. SafeReader works great too.

    Anyone could benefit from Vlingo, while you’re driving, while you’re working, in a hurry and want to save time while writing, it’s easy and fast. Save time and make things convenient. It’s a five star application and for the convenience it’s great. It didn’t slow my phone down at all. It’s easy to use, and the use of one side key of your choice makes it so easy to use. I can’t tell you how much of a convenience this application makes. Versatile and convenience beyond description,  you’ll have to try this out.

    PROS: Understands and types, I didn’t have to use correcting as long as I spoke slow. It read my messages and let me use it in any application.

    CONS: Only having to paste in other applications, and the fact that if you use syncing with your emails, and have a default, those are the contacts it will recognize.

  • Backing Up Your Third Party Apps On Your BlackBerry

    After the latest Tour update that just happened, I know myself and a few others made the same mistake. Updating from a different OS on the net, instead of downloading off the service provider and installing it. In my being hasty for happiness, I lost all my third party apps. So I want to share an article with you.

    I couldn’t believe I had done that. Normally when you update on the net it will bring up the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and bring all your information and apps across after the update. Not this time…I lost it all. And it wasn’t till I was asked by Josh about apps that it donned on me…some of us have never really thought about how to do it. The easiest way is with the BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife. But the way I’m going to share with you is an article by Crucial Xtreme of CrackBerry. This is the best detailed instructions I have found.

    Now with this tutorial it’s what you can do prior to a wipe, all I’m posting this for is in case of an OS update, you can back up your apps just to be on the safe side.

    The article goes through the steps of using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to begin like you’re going to be doing a transfer, but you’re going to include only the 3rd party apps. Then you copy and save the file, and it also tells you how to find them and reload them back on.

    If you’re being hasty and doing your upgrade on the net, please back up your apps first just to be safe. Thanks to Crucial Xtreme, you can be sure you don’t lose them.

    I really liked the iGallery with the ability to use your pictures as a digital photo frame, but most of all I really like that it’s a clever lock for your BlackBerry as well. Share your pictures, not your information. You can set a password, without needing to worry that it will all wipe out if it’s forgotten, but it will keep your information from prying eyes.     MMMOOO has done it again. You can set up different folders of pictures and set the folder to play as though it were a digital photo frame. Keep your loved ones in your view. But it’s also nice to password protect so you can have your phone at work and not have to worry about someone trying to look through your phone.

    I installed it on my Tour 9360 and it works great. First you go to the icon as shown.

    Next you go to options to set up the settings. In here you can see enable the screensaver, select the picture file, how long before the screensaver begins, and how long between frames.

  • Google Updates Google Mobile Search Again To v3.6.13, With Love For The Storms

    Google updated their mobile Search app, and this time there was love for the BlackBerry Storm and Storm2. I’ve even included what Google said in their blog about the changes for the new morning update. So if you updated last night, it’s time to update once more.

    As from the Official Google Mobile Blog:

    This version contains all of the useful features of Google Mobile App, but is tailored for BlackBerry touchscreen devices. You can search using your voice instead of typing your query. Just hold the green button and speak your query in English, Mandarin Chinese, or Japanese. You can also use Google Mobile App to search your BlackBerry’s email and contacts. To find an email, you can search for the name of the person who sent you an email, or a phrase from the body of the message. If you’d rather Google Mobile App not search your email and contacts, you can turn off Phone Search in the options screen. Information about your contacts and content from your emails is accessible only on your device; Google Mobile App does not send this data to Google.

    Google Mobile App also includes a few other conveniences to make searching easy, such as Google Suggest and search history. Google Mobile App also links to other Google services, such as Google Maps and Gmail, so you can access them quickly.

    Google is available in seven different languages in more than twenty countries.

    adiprilAdipril is a diet pill that claims it will help you “Lose 10 lbs in 7 days” (website). Just how does Adipril work? This Adipril review will help you see just how Adipril does (or does not) cause weight loss.

    Adipril Ingredients

    GuggulEZ100 is supposed to increase thyroid function, causing weight loss. However, clinical studies have shown varying results.
    Razberi-K is also known as raspberry ketones. While it has been shown to contribute to weight loss in rodents, there have not been human studies done on Razberi-K.
    FucoPure is brown seaweed. It has not been shown to cause weight loss.
    ThermoDiamine (Evodiamine) is another diet pill ingredient that has been proven effective in causing weight loss in mice. Once again, though, it has not been proven to cause weight loss in humans; more human research is needed.
    ForsLean is supposed to increase lean body mass. This Adipril review finds that when combined with other proven diet pill ingredients, ForsLean can be effective at causing weight loss.
    BioPerine helps the body absorb more nutrients. While this can help with overall health, there is no proof that it directly contributes to weight loss.

    You will notice that the only Adipril ingredient that will actually contribute to weight loss is ForsLean, and it is effective when combined with other effective ingredients (which are not contained in Adipril diet pills). Therefore, this review finds the ingredients in Adipril will not cause weight loss.

    Adipril diet pills cost $49.99 per bottle. Each bottle lasts one month. The website claims you save $50 off the retail price of $99.99. Don’t be too impressed by this. It is pretty common for diet pill companies to claim you are saving big bucks in order to get you to buy the product.

    Adipril does offer a discount for bulk purchases. No matter the cost, Adipril is too expensive, considering there is no scientific proof that Adipril will actually contribute to weight loss.

    The Adipril website claims they have a 100% Lifetime Money-Back Guarantee. They do not give specific details on their guarantee.

    Even if it is a legitimate guarantee, we do not recommend using Adipril because you will definitely need to use the guarantee. Save yourself some time and grief by going with a diet pill that includes ingredients proven to cause weight loss.

    Adipril Testimonials

    The Adipril website contains several testimonials from supposed Adipril customers. The problem with testimonials is that they are way too easy to fabricate; there is no way of knowing if they are real or not.

    Bioperine (5 mg) helps the body absorb more nutrients. There is no evidence that it directly contributes to weight loss.
