  • UTPD Installs Defibrillators in All Patrol Cars

    Automated Electronic Defibrillator

KNOXVILLE – The University of Tennessee Police Department has added Automated Electronic Defibrillators (AEDs) to patrol cars. The devices were placed in vehicles this morning.

UTPD officers are the first responders to emergencies on campus, including medical emergencies.

“The number of people on campus daily, in addition to special events, demonstrates the need for the UT Police to be able to respond quickly to incidents of medical distress,” Interim Chief Debbie Perry said. “We are committed to being able to provide a prompt and professional response.”

Police Captain Keith Lambert said the survival rate for a person in cardiac arrest is increased by an AED. Also, he said according to the American Heart Association, more than 250,000 people die in the United States from cardiac arrest each year and the survival rate decreases by 7 to 10 percent for each minute that passes without a defibrillator.

All UTPD officers receive Red Cross certification for CPR and AED use.

  • Lihir Gold would be good fit for Newmont

Australian gold miner Lihir Gold Ltd. is on the block after it received a US$8.45-billion hostile bid from Newcrest Mining Ltd. According to Scotia Capital analyst David Christie, Newmont Mining Corp. should now look to acquire Lihir.

In a note to clients, Mr. Christie wrote that Lihir could immediately increase Newmont's production by 9%, and drop equity cash costs by 2%. That would bring Newmont's cash costs below US$500 an ounce.

"In our view, the Lihir mine would be a good fit for Newmont's Australia-Asia operating group, and [Lihir's] Bonikro mine and vast exploration ground would fit well into Newmont's African operating unit," he wrote.

Newmont needs to consider acquisitions because it has a negative growth profile. Mr. Christie wrote that production is expected to decline by 8.7% in 2015 compared to 2010. However, the company is also in a good position for M&A activity with US$5.8-billion in available liquidity, he noted.

Mr. Christie initiated coverage on Newmont with a "sector perform" rating and a one-year target price of US$67.00 a share. He wrote that Newmont trades at a price-to-net-asset-value multiple of 1.98 times, which is well ahead of its large-cap gold peers at 1.49 times. However, Newmont is cheaper than its rivals on other metrics.

  • Supreme Court rules district court must defer to retirement plan administrator

[JURIST] The US Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled 5-3 in Conkright v. Frommert that a district court has an obligation to defer to an Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) plan administrator’s reasonable interpretation of the terms of the plan if the plan administrator arrived at the interpretation outside the context of an administrative claim for benefits. The US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that a district court is under no obligation to defer to an ERISA plan administrator’s interpretation and that a district court has “allowable discretion” to adopt any “reasonable” interpretation of the terms of the plan. In reversing the opinion below, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote:
We held in Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. v. Bruch that an ERISA plan administrator with discretionary authority to interpret a plan is entitled to deference in exercising that discretion. The question here is whether a single honest mistake in plan interpretation justifies stripping the administrator of that deference for subsequent related interpretations of the plan. We hold that it does not.Justice Stephen Breyer filed a dissenting opinion, joined by Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Justice Sonia Sotomayor took no part in the consideration of the case. The case was brought by former Xerox employees who left the company in the 1980s and were later rehired. The employees challenged the method used to calculate their retirement benefits. The district court deferred to the method used by the plan administrator, but the Second Circuit reversed.

  • Europe “Flies” Back to Normal

AMSTERDAM     Operations at the important European air hub of Schiphol in Holland were getting back to normal Wednesday.

The instances of long lines and mass confusion in the past few days here have eased as concerns regarding the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud diminish and flights pick up.

Officials for Eurocontrol, the body that regulates air travel in Europe, is reporting air traffic is now at 75% of regular levels.

That has still left some travelers out in the cold.  Flights to places like London, Glasgow, Munich and Stockholm, scheduled to leave from Amsterdam, are showing as cancelled or delayed on the “departures board” here.

Air travelers coming from other airports with connections to still “questionable” final destinations were told they would have to end their trip in Amsterdam and wait before trying to move onwards.

A Fox News team traveling from Dubai was on one of the first planes to operate out of an airport hit by the recent closures. The Dutch-based KLM plane flew from Amsterdam to the Mideast overnight Monday.    The crew then “turned around” and flew back to Amsterdam early Wednesday.

The flight attendants seemed to take the disruption in their stride, telling us their “down days” happened to coincide with the flight bans and so they were ready to get back to work.

As for the passengers on board on board the flight, with many travelers having to wait days before they’re accommodated, they were happy to be flying as well.

  • A minimum data set: Why, what, how much and when?

Richard Denison, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist.

As I noted in my last post, EDF and the Safer Chemicals Healthy Families coalition believe TSCA needs to ensure that basic safety data are developed and made available for all chemicals in commerce. Such information is:

    • a core element of the public’s right-to-know;
    • embodied in the “no data, no market” concept already in place under the EU’s REACH; and
    • most importantly, critical for identifying BOTH:
      •  chemicals of concern we have not yet identified, due to data gaps; and
      • chemicals presenting little or no concern, which may serve as safer alternatives to chemicals of concern but we need to be able to identify with greater confidence.

The chemical industry’s opposition to comprehensive data requirements is an inherent contradiction: It is often the first to claim “regrettable substitution” when a chemical is restricted, asking: “How do we know the substitute is any better?” The answer is we often won’t – UNLESS we take a comprehensive approach to data development

So what types of data, and how much, should comprise a minimum safety data set? And when should it be submitted?

WHAT types of chemical information are needed

Minimum data sets (MDS) need to contain a number of types of safety-relevant information, which Congress should specify as elements EPA must include in developing the specifics of the MDS:

    • Identifying information on the chemical, its name and identifying CAS number, its physical and chemical properties, impurities.
    • Manufacturing and processing information on what companies produce, import and make and process the chemical, in which quantities and at which locations.
    • Exposure-relevant information including the physical form and concentration of the chemical at sites of manufacture, processing and use, the number of workers potentially exposed,
    • Monitoring data that indicate the presence of the chemical in people, other organisms, food, drinking water and environmental media.
    • Use information on the function of the chemical, its commercial and consumer uses, its presence in article to which children may be exposed.
    • Post-use information on the disposal or other post-use management of the chemical or products containing it, and any by-products of such management.
    • Hazard information on the environmental and biological fate and transport of the chemical, acute and chronic health effects and ecotoxicity, potential for synergistic effects in combination with other chemicals.

HOW MUCH chemical information is needed

MDSs need not be one size fits all:

    • EPA should have authority to require more information for some types of chemicals than others, based on criteria indicating higher exposure (e.g., use in consumer products, higher production volume) or higher hazard (e.g., evidence indicating likelihood of particular types of toxicity, persistence and/or bioaccumulation potential).
    • Our proposal is that EPA be required to consider a broad range of potential impacts in making safety determinations, and to require submission of information sufficient for EPA to determine whether a chemical has these properties of concern. This is not the same as a long list of endpoints for which testing would always be required.
    • We also propose EPA have authority to “tier” testing requirements. This could be done to reflect the different exposure or hazard potentials described in the first bullet above. For some chemicals, it could also be used to initially apply screening tests, to be followed by more detailed tests should the screening tests raise red flags.
    • We further propose that EPA could develop and tailor MDSs for categories of chemicals that have similar properties, hazards, use profiles or exposure potential.
    • Finally, EPA should also have authority to require MDSs for mixtures of chemicals as well as individual chemicals. In some cases, data on the mixture will be more useful in determining safety than data on the individual components.

WHEN chemical information should be provided

Because chemical information serves so many purposes (as I noted in my earlier post on this topic), its development and submission should be expedited as much as possible. And because such information changes over time, it needs to be updated with sufficient frequency to ensure users have current and timely information.

Of course, EPA will need some time to develop a rule that specifies the details of MDSs, the methods to be used to develop the data, etc. And a reasonable period of time then needs to be provided for companies to develop and submit the data. Finally, chemicals that are prioritized will be subject to safety determinations sooner, so their MDSs will be needed to be developed and submitted sooner than those for other chemicals.

    We propose, therefore:

    • Companies should be required to submit information they already possess about a chemical’s identity, properties, production, use, hazards and exposure potential within one year of enactment.
    • Companies should update such information at a minimum every three years, and immediately whenever significant new information becomes available or significant changes in a chemical’s production or use occur.
    • EPA should develop and publish the MDS requirements within one year of enactment.
    • MDSs for all new chemicals should be submitted at the time companies submit notices of intent to manufacture them. (A transition for new chemicals may be needed during the period between enactment of legislation and EPA’s issuance of the details of the MDS).
    • MDSs for all existing chemicals should be submitted within either:
      • five years of enactment, or
      • for priority chemicals, 18 months after they are so identified,

    whichever comes first.

    • If significant time has passed between initial submission of the MDS for a chemical and when it comes up for its safety determination, companies should have an opportunity and mandate to update their MDSs, so that the most current information is available to EPA.

  • Zinio’s iPad Magazines Suggest Disappointing Future

Zinio is a magazine store and reader for the iPad. In fact, for now, it’s the magazine store for the iPad, stocking all the biggest titles of which you can purchase one-off issues or even 12 month subscriptions.

Just like Apple with its iBookstore, Zinio has established relationships with an impressive array of publications. As such, you can expect to find enhanced editions of magazines Cosmopolitan, T3, Rolling Stone and Hello among many others. However, unlike Apple’s iBookstore or iBooks app, Zinio certainly doesn’t live up to the hype.

For starters, each page takes around a second to load. Take a moment and imagine that…imagine reading a magazine and waiting an entire second every time you decide to turn a page. Need to quickly flick back and take a glance at that article from a few pages ago? Prepare to wait.

Plus, there’s no in-app purchasing, meaning that you have to leave the app, load Safari, sign in to Zinio’s website and then make a purchase using your credit card. You can’t even use PayPal. In fact, because Zinio’s iPad site login wasn’t working for me, I ended up opening my MacBook Pro and handling the entire purchase on there.

There’s no option, that I could find, for deleting a magazine. I checked the app, the Settings app and even my account settings on Zinio’s site. This means I’m stuck with a couple of freebies: Car & Driver and a rapidly aging edition of Macworld magazine. (There’s also a free copy of National Geographic but I don’t mind keeping that as it fools me into thinking I’m cultured.)

The magazines themselves are just that, magazines. This isn’t Captain Picard’s enhanced edition of Cosmopolitan, just a run of the mill scanned magazine. And while pinch-to-zoom works, zooming in close reveals the low quality of these fuzzy digital magazines.

Any websites that are mentioned will typically have an ugly blue outline to indicate that you can open the site by tapping the text. Aside from that, you’ll be lucky to find the occasional clunky video embedded in an otherwise static page. Welcome to the future, those are your ‘enhancements’.

What worries me here is that Zinio has all the big names wrapped up, as such it might take a while for things to change. In the meantime, I feel embarrassed to use Zinio’s app, to think that this is the future of magazines on my $499 iPad — shoddy ‘enhanced’ PDFs.

  • The New Price For iPad: $499 and a Finger?

When 59 year old Bill Jordan went to get his iPad from the local Apple store, he paid a little more than the agreed price of $499. As the story goes, when the Denver resident left Apple store with his prized gadget, he had his fingers wrapped around the device so he doesn’t drop it. Little did he know that somebody more enthusiastic than him has been stalking him. As soon as the thief got a chance, he got into a physical struggle with Bill Jordan to snatch his iPad.

As crazy as it sounds, the thief tried so hard that in addition to the iPad, he was able to tore some flesh off the pinky. The finger had to be amputated to prevent further damage. The police, however, has caught the event on a surveillance camera and is trying to catch the culprit. Here is a picture of Bill Jordan after the incident:

    iPad

The funniest part of the story is that Bill Jordan didn’t even know what an iPad is; rather, his company told him to get one as a business gift to a co-worker. Denver Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of $2000 to anybody who can lead to the capture of this iPad culprit. Am I the only one who thinks this iPad craze is going a bit too far? Below is the video from one of the surveillance cameras showing the incident:

  • Eroglu Victory in Northern Cyprus: What Should Be The Negotiation Dynamics?

by Fatma Yilmaz Elmas, Tuesday, 20 April 2010

Elections in Northern Cyprus, turning into a quasi-race between supporters of the negotiation process and those who are against either the process itself or the course of process, resulted at the first round on April, 18. Dervis Eroglu won the presidential elections with just over 50% of the total vote whereas Mehmet Ali Talat was defeated by taking 42.84% of the vote in contrast to his previous victory in 2005 with an average 55%.

The issue putting its mark on the choice of the electorate and related to the following process is about in what way the negotiations will proceed. It seems that there will be no deviation from the existing will to continue the negotiations, according to Eroglu’s several speeches, previous party program and election declaration for presidency. This view was clear enough in victory speech of Eroglu after the declaration of ultimate results. In his speech, Eroglu expressed that he will not be the one who leave the negotiation table and noted that the negotiations will continue in cooperation with Turkey. However, Eroglu’s attitude is so obvious that the negotiation process will be conducted with a different perspective. Eroglu’s style seems to differ from that of Talat in terms of both way of conducting negotiations and parameters on which negotiations are based. Complaining about an opaque negotiation process during Talat era, Eroglu envisages some steps to make negotiations more transparent and open. The primary one is to form a structure similar to “National Council” in Southern Cyprus. Accordingly, it will incorporate also the government in the process and it will therefore give way to teamwork during the negotiation process instead of one-man domination.

In contrast to Talat’s vision based on bi-communal and bi-zonal federation, the basic parameter of a possible solution for Eroglu is a new partnership based on the equal political status of founding states. From this viewpoint, the foreseen federation could only be attained by evolutionary term stating with a confederational structure founded by two independent and sovereign states on the island. Therefore, it is expectable that the divergent view of Eroglu from that of Talat could force Greek leader Christofias further.

Nevertheless, the main issue on Cyprus negotiations is how the Greek side will make use of the change in Turkish presidency rather than divergent attitudes of Talat and Eroglu in respect of solution parameters. The Greek propaganda, trying to show Eroglu as if he is against any solution and to direct and convince both national and international public opinion in this way, has paid well. The news about the elections in foreign press that Eroglu is unwilling for a solution, despite his counter-speeches, shows that the Greek propaganda has been relatively successful. It will not be wrong to wait for the Greek side to try its best to strengthen this perception more in the international arena. Any future deadlocks in negotiation process could be a good tool to utilize for the Greek side in order to change its uncompromising image sticking on it after Annan Plan referenda. At this point, importance of the external dynamics comes on the scene. Without any pressure on Christofias coming from the international public opinion in favor of a possible solution, it seems so difficult to make any progress in negotiations. The process have been damaged anyhow even in Talat-Christofias period because of the inconsistencies of both rhetoric and action. Apart from the accusations of parties against one another, incompatible judicial steps of both sides about the guarantorship also harmed the process primarily. Revitalization of the process once again in real term mostly depends on the European Union which is, to a great extent, the main responsible actor for the imbalance especially in negotiation process. Needless to say, the Greek side has the EU membership card in its hand on behalf of the whole island. What more, it is about to manage to convince the international public opinion about Eroglu’s uncompromising stance on a possible solution. In such situation, it is hard to expect from the Greeks to take constructive steps without any forcible reason.

There is also another dimension on this issue, which is internal dynamics. Eroglu’s commitment to stay on the negotiation table is not enough alone to set the course of ongoing negotiations. In addition to the contribution of external dynamics, it is essential to add internal dynamics to this process. The necessity of synchronous and multi-dimensional policies including social, political, economic and judicial initiatives has been the neglected part of a possible solution for a long time. As the possible solution is only locked onto the negotiation process, the necessary reforms in order to eliminate the socio-economic asymmetry in the island in favor of the Turkish side is the most important part of such neglected point. During the presidential elections, any approaches about the internal dynamics either were not mentioned or were so weak. CTP’s (Republican Turkish Party) belief on internal dynamics of the solution and its emphasis on the need for reform in several state regulations could not be realized. Except the several sentences in CTP party program during April 2009 elections, the concept of internal dynamics has mainly remained out of the issue. However, internal dynamics is not only an element which will strengthen the hand of Turkish side on negotiation table against the Greek side, it is also a crucial concept for making projections about future as “B Plan” for Northern Cyprus in case of a possibility of cessation of the ongoing negotiations.

Important to note that, a possible deadlock in negotiation process since it turns into a race to stay just at the table seems not logical till the end. Thus, what should be done in long-term is to make strategic planning from the best to the worst case scenarios in regard to negotiations. However, this situation should not be interpreted that the negotiations have to be conducted in an insincere way. This is just an effort to transform the process, which has proceeded as a derivative just of the external dynamics for long years, into a viable solution

  • Spring Games (Huh!), What Are They Good For?

    Absolutely nothing?

Well, that depends on what you are looking for.

If you are a desperate fan base whose team hasn’t gone to a bowl game in two years, you might be inclined to look for glimmers of hope in the spring game.

Mr. "I threw an interception once every eight times I put the ball in the air" had a good spring, oh boy!

“Did you see how well [insert name] performed? We are going to be better this year for sure!”

If this is your attitude going in to the spring game, then yes, it is worth absolutely nothing.

How much can you really learn from the first team offense playing against the second team defense? Not much.

But when you are desperate, you will use anything to make you feel better.

If you aren’t following me, here is the take away: any Michigan fans making predictions about next year based on the spring game are full of it.

Rose Bowl actions speak louder than Spring Game actions (especially against your own crappy 2nd string defense).

Similarly, as Ohio State fans, we shouldn’t expect too much out of the Spring Game. Will it be entertaining? yes. Will I be watching? yes. Will it be great to see the scarlet and gray in the Shoe on a Saturday afternoon? absolutely.

But here’s the thing, Ohio State is going to be a great team next year regardless of what happens in the spring game. If Pryor throws 5 touchdowns, great. If he throws 5 interceptions? meh.

The point is, being overly negative or overly positive about the upcoming season based on the spring game is pointless.

The first team offensive line will be split up, the first team defensive line will be split up, Pryor’s favorite targets that he has been developing chemistry with all spring may not be on the same team as him.

So, as Ohio State fans, let’s enjoy the Spring Game for what it is (an exhibition) and not get all worked up over what it’s not (a preview of the upcoming season).

Like I said, Ohio State is going to be a great team next year, regardless of what happens on Saturday, because they were a great team last year and practically everyone is coming back.

Isn’t it nice knowing that? After all, relying on performances against the second team in an exhibition game is a pretty pathetic reason to be optimistic for the upcoming season, and just one more reason why we can all sit back and laugh at Michigan.

I am not saying we shouldn’t be excited about Saturday, after all, it is going to be awesome, but don’t expect to take much away from it.

Here is a nice rundown of what to look for on Saturday from Vico at OurHonorDefend.

Let’s enjoy the individual performances  and a chance to see some hitting, let’s enjoy seeing the scarlet and gray on the field once again, hell, let’s even get optimistic if it is warranted, but let’s not get too carried away.

  • Heart of Borneo home to 123 new species

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei: A frog with no lungs, a frog that changes its skin and eye colour and the world’s longest insect are among new species discovered in the three years since the Heart of Borneo conservation plan was drawn up by the three governments with jurisdiction over the world’s third largest island.

New WWF report Borneo’s New World: Newly Discovered Species in the Heart of Borneo details 123 new species discovered since the February 2007 agreement by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia to conserve 220,000 km2 of irreplaceable tropical rainforest, designated the Heart of Borneo (HoB).

"As the past three years of independent scientific discovery have proven, new forms of life are constantly being discovered in the Heart of Borneo,”" said Adam Tomasek, leader of WWF’s HoB Initiative.

Explorers have been visiting the island of Borneo for centuries, but vast tracts of its interior are yet to be biologically explored, he said.

"If this stretch of irreplaceable rainforest can be conserved for our children, the promise of more discoveries must be a tantalising one for the next generation of researchers to contemplate," he added.

The HoB, an "island within an island" is home to ten species of primate, more than 350 birds, 150 reptiles and amphibians and a staggering 10,000 plants that are found nowhere else in the world, the report says.

The rate of discovery since the foundation of the HoB is more than three new species per month, providing ample justification for the decision to protect the region.

Speaking at the launch of the report during a meeting of the three Heart of Borneo governments, Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Industry & Primary Resources, the Honourable Pehin Dato Yahya, paid tribute to the dedicated scientists who spent countless hours in challenging conditions to uncover the staggering bio-diversity.

"These amazing new findings highlight the importance of our efforts to implement the HoB Declaration’s bold vision," he said of the region which also contains the pygmy elephant, orangutan, rhinoceros, and clouded leopard.

With so many new species discovered every month, WWF has made the region a global priority through its Heart of Borneo Initiative. WWF offices in Malaysia and Indonesia support tri-government efforts to conserve and sustainably manage the HoB.

Under the 2007 agreement, the three governments have committed to enhance protected area and trans-boundary management, develop eco-tourism and support sustainable resource management.

"Three years on, the Heart of Borneo Declaration is proving to be an irreplaceable foundation for conservation and sustainable development by establishing a framework for action to protect Borneo’s globally outstanding biodiversity, eco-system services and livelihoods," WWF’s Tomasek said.

"The discovery of these new species in the Heart of Borneo underlines the incredible diversity of this remarkable area and emphasizes the importance of the commitments already made by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia to protect it," he added.

The discoveries also highlight the need to increase financial and technical support to ensure their continued survival, he said.

    Saturadas (g) 15 13 13
    Polinsaturadas (g) 55 44 08
    Monoinsaturas (g) 22 29 79

Suporta a cozedura a todas as temperaturas.

    E a marca?

Algumas marcas fraudam o consumidor.

  • Why Do Firms Use Non-Linear Incentive Schemes? Experimental Evidence on Sorting and Overconfidence

    Published: April 21, 2010
    Paper Released: March 2010
Authors: Ian Larkin and Stephen Leider

    Executive Summary:

The use of “non-linear” performance-based incentive contracts is very common in many business environments. The most well-known example is salesperson compensation, though many other types of performance-based pay, including stock options, bonus systems based on defined metrics, and pay based on subjective performance, often exhibit non-linear characteristics. Research has demonstrated that non-linear incentives are highly distortionary because employees manipulate their work in order to maximize their pay. While some scholars have recommended that companies stop using non-linear incentives, little research has been done to investigate the possible benefits of non-linear schemes. In this paper, HBS professor Ian Larkin and Ross School of Business professor Stephen Leider (HBS PhD ’09) explore the role that the behavioral bias of overconfidence may play in explaining the prevalence of non-linear incentive schemes. They conclude that the linearity or non-linearity of an incentive system could play an important role in sorting employees according to their level of confidence; in addition, there may be three possible benefits to having overconfident employees. Key concepts include:

    • First, overconfidence is valuable for certain job functions; for example, salespeople lose deals much more frequently than they win them, and being overconfident may help them be effective despite the many failures they go through.
    • Second, absent non-linear contracts, employers and overconfident employees may have a difficult time agreeing to a compensation scheme in the first place. Non-linear systems allow employers and employees with fundamentally different beliefs form compensation agreements.
    • Third, the non-linearity of an incentive system may allow firms to lower their wage bill. A convex scheme, for example, may allow firms to take advantage of overconfident employees’ systematic and persistent bias toward believing they will perform well.
    • The study confirms recent findings in psychology literature that overconfidence is not an individual trait so much as a trait around a specific task.

    Abstract

Non-linear incentive schemes are commonly used to determine employee pay, despite their distortionary impact. We investigate possible reasons for their widespread use by examining the relationship between convex pay schemes and overconfidence. In a laboratory experiment, subjects chose between a piece rate and a convex pay scheme. We find that overconfident subjects are more likely than others to choose the convex scheme, even when it leads to lower pay. Overconfident subjects also persist in making the mistake despite clear feedback. These results suggest non-linear pay schemes may help companies select and retain overconfident workers, and may reduce the wage bill.

  • PIM2401 Intelligent Plug-in Minidrive with CANopen

PIM2401 is a Technosoft intelligent plug-in minidrive specially designed for motion control applications where space is dramatically limited. Its miniature size (50 x 44 x 14 mm) and weight (15 g) allow it to be mounted horizontally or vertically, inside the machine or near the motor. The drive is manufactured with simple pins; this architecture reduces the time needed to assemble it. PIM2401 controls DC, brushless, linear and step motors up to 25W (24V, 1A).

With its small dimensions, PIM2401 embeds a digital drive, a powerful motion controller and PLC functionalities in the same unit. One of the key advantages of PIM2401 is its ability to execute complex motions without requiring any external controller. Complex movement sequences can be programmed directly on the PIM, while system control functions are handled from the supervising PC or PLC. Motion modes as contouring, profiling, gearing, electronic camming, PVT are easily executed in stand-alone or multi-axis configurations.

PC and PLC motion libraries are available for the drive’s quick industrial integration. Starter kits will help users to evaluate it and develop specific projects. PIM2401 supports DS-301 and DSP-402 CANopen profiles. Incremental encoders, digital and linear Halls are incorporated by default.

All these benefits plug-in design, embedded intelligence and miniature size make PIM2401 a valuable motion control solution for all industrial applications where space is critical and the machines / PCBs need to be kept uncrowded.
