  • Ankit Headphones Are Edgy and Cute and Will Plant a Tree with Very Purchase

teddy bearskullheadphones 300x229 Ankit Headphones Are Edgy and Cute and Will Plant a Tree with Very Purchase

We get our fair share of headphones around these parts so coming across the these new ankit headphones was certainly a treat. They are  ergonomically designed with enhanced noise isolation and have g-bass technology. They also come in extremely cute or edgy 3D metallic design – “Stay True,” “Break Away,” “Naughty Naughty,” and “Forbidden.” The packaging is also quite impressive and also a bit Ed Hardy-esque. However one thing Ed Hardy or rather Christian Audigier wouldn’t do is plant a tree with every purchase and ankit will. Pricing and availability is TBD but I can’t wait to hear how that g-bass feels.

  • Detox Recipe: Roasted Beets with Garlic and Onions

I am roasting beets nestled in a bed of sweet onions and garlic. As I write this, I’m simply surrounded by the aromas of those ingredients and let me tell you, it’s truly delightful. This truly is what comfort food smells like on a cold day.

If you are detoxing this month, you are not alone — January is one the most popular times for people to start a new nutrition regime. This often means saying goodbye to old habits and foods such as sugar, alcohol and in many cases even red meat and wheat. Even if you’re not following a specific detox diet, simply eliminating certain calorie-dense, nutrient-poor refined foods and eating more fruits, veggies and whole grains is incredibly energizing and invigorating.

Beets are definitely an item to add to your list of nutrient-dense foods (detoxing or not). Think of them as tiny powerhouses of nutrition. Although they have the highest sugar content of all the vegetables, which is what gives them their distinct sweet taste, they are very low in calories and a source of folate, manganese, potassium and antioxidants. The juice in beets contain betaine, which stimulates the function of liver cells and protects the liver and bile ducts — making them ideal for a detox. Recent studies have concluded the betaine lowers the risk of coronary and cerebral artery diseases and this may be due to the fact that betaine lowers inflammation in the body.

  • BREAKING NEWS: Senegal Offers Land to Haitians.

Senegal offers land to Haitians .

Abdoulaye Wade said Haitians could "return to their origin"
Senegal’s president says he will offer free land and "repatriation" to people affected by the earthquake in Haiti.

President Abdoulaye Wade said Haitians were sons and daughters of Africa since Haiti was founded by slaves, including some thought to be from Senegal.

"The president is offering voluntary repatriation to any Haitian that wants to return to their origin," said Mr Wade’s spokesman, Mamadou Bemba Ndiaye.

Tuesday’s earthquake killed tens of thousands and left many more homeless.

Buildings have been reduced to rubble, the distribution of aid is slow, and people have been flooding out of the devastated capital, Port-au-Prince.

"Senegal is ready to offer them parcels of land – even an entire region. It all depends on how many Haitians come," Mr Bemba Ndiaye said.

"If it’s just a few individuals, then we will likely offer them housing or small pieces of land. If they come en masse we are ready to give them a region."

The spokesman emphasised that if a region was given, it would be in a fertile part of the country rather than in its parched deserts, the Associated Press news agency reported.

  • Benefits of Creating Space in Your Mind and Life

I love my work as a yoga teacher but I also have a real love for graphic design. There is an art to organizing type and pictures on a page and making it look beautiful. Many years ago, I went to school for graphic design and although I didn’t have the yearning to pursue a career in it, I’m glad I learned how to use the various design and layout programs; I can’t tell you how often it has come in handy in my own business.

I was designing a brochure for a friend the other day and it occurred to me that a typical mistake non-designers make when doing a layout of a document is using every inch of space on the page and filling it with text, pictures, lines, boxes, etc. I didn’t realize until now, what a valuable commodity space is.

Space is important and often, the more space you don’t use on a page, the clearer your message becomes. Take a look at a document that is filled from top to bottom, where do you set your eyes first? After a while of staring at the document, your eyes get tired and you abandon the document altogether. I thought to myself, this idea of creating space on a document is synonymous with life as well; we also need to create space in our lives, to help us see a clearer picture.

  • How to get someone you don’t know to help you?

An insightful post “How to get someone you don’t know to help you. Hint: send a personal email“. Very much agree. It is not that difficult to be nice and ask for help in the right way. An excerpt from Josh’s post here (emphasis added),

I ask many people I don’t know to help me — to share numbers, interviews, etc. Often they say yes. I am grateful.

Many people who don’t know me ask me for help. Often I say yes. But many of those requests are presented so poorly they make me cringe.

Basically, if you want my help, take a few moments to know who I am. If you send me what is clearly a mass email asking for help, forget it. There is a right and wrong way to do this.

This post is about the right way.

As a habit, I try to leave comments on other people’s blogs and help them when it is within my abilities and the time I have. Same for helping people who leave comments on my blog like this recent question that I tried to help.
