Oh Tennessee, you have been in rare form recently. The latest tale comes to us courtesy of Nicholas Nunley, who hooked a Coke machine to his pickup outside a Dollar General then began dragging it down the road.

Amazingly, an eyewitness noticed the one truck on the road with a vending machine engulfed in sparks dragging behind, and called the police. Apparently unfamiliar with the effect of drag, Nunley tried unsuccessfully to evade capture. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, in his CES keynote, has announced that the HTC HD2 will arrive Stateside exclusively with T-Mobile. For those of you who need a quick refresher, the HD2 will be packing a 480 x 800″ capacitive touchscreen display, 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, Wi-Fi b/g, 7.2 Mbps HSPA 3G, Bluetooth 2.1, and will be rocking Windows Mobile Professional 6.5 smothered in HTC’s Sense UI.  We’ve got the press release queued up for you after the break.

You wouldn’t generally think of a smaller outfit such as ViewSonic having a major presence here at CES, but sure enough, the company has hit the ground blazing in Las Vegas. Kicking things off is the new ViewLED TV lineup, which consists of four LED-backlit sets ranging from 19- ($299) to 42-inches ($1,199) in size. Moving from HDTVs to PC panels, we’ve got ten new Eco-View monitors spanning the entire gamut of sizes and features. The company is also letting loose its VFP858 connected Bluetooth smart frame, which packs an 8-inch panel, an integrated microphone, stereo speakers and support for handsfree dialing… all from a digiframe. For media junkies on the run, the new line of MovieBooks (including the 5-inch VPD550T and 3-inch VPD313T) both sport touch-sensitive displays and sub-$150 price tags. Finally, we’ve got no fewer than nine new laptop and desktop models, including the 13.3-inch VNB131 ViewBook Pro, 18.5-inch VPC190 all-in-one and the VOT125 nettop. Microsoft’s CES keynote has been marked by disaster: first the power went out, knocking the PCs on stage into recovery mode, and now the PR for Ballmer’s speech has posted early. The big news is no news — that HP slate device is a Windows 7 PC, not the rumored Courier tablet. We’re sure HP and Microsoft will have some interesting things to say about it, but a lot of hearts are breaking out there. Other big items: Project Natal will launch around the holidays in 2010, the HTC HD2 will hit T-Mobile as expected, and the Mediaroom 2.0 IPTVs service will bring on-demand programming to PCs and phones. The full PR is after the break, but we’ll post highlights here if we see anything else as we comb through.

Take your pick as to what’s better about these new Sanyo Xacti cams: On the one hand, they’re thinner and lighter than ever. On the other hand, they got rid of that pain-in-the-ass AVCHD video format.

Slashgear says the bigger Xacti, the VPC- SH1 has 1080p recording, a 35mm wide-angle lens, 30x optical zoom and takes 4 megapixel photos. The taller Xacti model, the VPC-CS1 also records 1080p, but only has 10x zoom and takes 3 megapixel stills. It is, however, only an inch thick.

Both models have a zoom mic that hones in on the area you’re zooming into, image stabilization, face tracking and SDXC compatibility. Both cameras will be available in February with the SH1 selling for $400 and the CS1 selling for $300. [Slashgear]

Every now and then, we come across cool apps that allow geeks to conveniently manage their musical tastes in a way that encourages more real-world fun.

Last year, we met up with Livekick’s founders in New York to talk about their very thorough site for helping web geeks get out to more shows and concerts. Today, we’ve discovered Roadie, a much simpler app that focuses on album releases. Roadie creates an RSS feed or iCal based on a user’s Last.fm favorite acts or a custom list of manually entered bands. Essentially, it allows users to keep up with album releases quickly and painlessly.

The Last.fm import is a super simple way to get users quickly into using the site’s features, but we also wish they’d allow for an iTunes artist scan:

Users can upload other folks’ Last.fm faves, as well, if gift-giving ideas are in needed. Other features that would make this app even more useful would be a Twitter OAuth to receive DMs the day before and/or the day of an album’s release. And of course, we’d love to see a location-based feature that added tour dates to the mix.

Roadie comes from Portuguese web and mobile dev shop Think Orange, which was founded by a couple Ruby on Rails geeks. Roadie is an experimental side project for them, and they’re looking forward to creating many more projects in 2010. We’re looking forward to seeing what they cook up, as well!

I just tried out the Fujitsu FLEPia, which has been shown in 2007, talked about in 2008 and finally released in Japan in 2009. It’s slow and janky.

The FLEPia is still the production color ebook reader available, says Fujitsu. The problem is that it’s really slow. Page turns take 1.8 seconds, and slowly loads from the bottom up. And because it runs Windows CE, the FLEPia can handle PDFs and Word documents, but they’re slow as well.

The obvious benefit is that the FLEPia is its 4096 color display, and, well, the color isn’t so hot. It’s washed out and not worth paying such a premium for. It does have a pen-based toushcreen, but it’s unresponsive as well.

So, Fujitsu should probably keep this version in Japan until they can figure out how to speed up the load times and make the screen more presentable.

All the signs were already indicating that T-Mobile was planning on launching the gloriously beautiful HTC HD2, but good ol’ Stevie Ballmer just confirmed it during his CES 2010 keynote. Dates? Nope. Pricing? Nope. The best we’ve got is still HTC head honcho Peter Chou’s confirmation that it’d be launching in the US in “Early 2010″ – but that’ll just have to do for now.

One of the world’s most accomplished automotive designers, Lee Noble, is to once more start his own company, and plans to produce an ultra light weight mid-engined V8 Grand Tourer supercar. Two images were released today and that’s one of them at right. Noble’s track record is good as it gets, having penned a string of the world’s best-handling and fastest accelerating supercars including the Ultima GTR, Ascari Ecosse and Noble M12, but in announcing his new company, to be known as Fenix, Noble has promised a 1200 kg 638 bhp car with a 0-100mph time of under seven seconds and a price tag under USD125,000. The car will target serious track day drivers, while also being completely usable on the public road.

It’s not Courier, but HP’s rumored slate PC is here, now. Steve Ballmer and his hardware specialist Ryan Asdourian just showed it off, and man is it cute. Updated with VIDEO

Update:Adrian just spotted this official video:

“They’re more powerful than a phone and almost as powerful as a PC. Perfect for reading, surfing the web and taking entertainment on the go,” said Ballmer at his CES 2010 opening keynote. He says that it will be available this year.

HP says they’ll provide information on the slate after the keynote, but wouldn’t say anything in the meantime. We’re calling it a “slate”—well, Microsoft is calling it a slate, to differentiate from the pen-and-screen dealy that Bill Gates intro’d in 2001—but that’s not its name.

It’s a Windows 7 touch device, so it’s nice in an accessible, netbooky (yeah, I’m guessing relatively cheap) context. But it’s not exactly the Courier we have lusted after from Microsoft in our dreams (and waking hours).

Back in August we wrote about the ridiculous situation with the National Music Publishers Association suing a bunch of lyrics sites for not paying up to help promote songs. This action helped push at least one of the sites, LyricWiki — which was user generated lyrics — to shut down (though, Wikia picked up the project and paid up to the NMPA). Now it appears that the NMPA has forced another one of these sites to shut down and hand over all of the money it made. Once again, be careful singing along to or quoting any lyrics. The songwriters and publishers want to get paid every time you do.
