    Es una empresa venezolana dedicada al servicio de transporte aéreo de pasajeros, correo y carga, la cual en la actualidad posee más de 485 vuelos semanales. Su oferta de servicio se ve complementada por amplios itinerarios que satisfacen la demanda del viajero de negocios o de placer que requieren flexibilidad de horarios y variedad de destinos. Aserca Airlines mantiene operaciones en Caracas, Valencia, Maracaibo, Santo Domingo del Táchira, Porlamar, Barquisimeto, Barcelona, Puerto Ordáz y Maturín.

    Esta empresa aérea venezolana, tiene más de 15 años prestando servicios comerciales en Venezuela, pero su innovadora tecnología y el constante crecimiento a la cual está sometida, le permitió incluir destinos internacionales como lo son: Aruba, Curazao y República Dominicana. La aerolínea atiende diversos destinos nacionales e internacionales manteniendo cerca de 250 vuelos semanales, su principal destino es el Aeropuerto Internacional de Maiquetía Simón Bolívar que sirve a la ciudad de Caracas, desde ahí, cubre tres destinos internacionales además de una decena de destinos nacionales.

    Historia
    El 6 de marzo de 1968, un grupo de empresarios valencianos inicia una pujante empresa de transporte aéreo de particulares llamada Aero Servicios Carabobo C.A. Posteriormente, el 27 de julio de 1990, el empresario valenciano Simeón García, adquiere la totalidad de las acciones y decide orientarla al transporte aéreo de pasajeros. El 14 de septiembre de 1992 la aerolínea realiza su primer vuelo Valencia-Puerto Ordáz con un DC9-30, llamado El Pilar y el 27 de noviembre de 1997 adquiere su segunda aeronave, y pasa a denominarse "Aserca Airlines". Hoy en día, Aserca Airlines brinda plena satisfacción en sus vuelos al pasajero; cuenta con una flota de 17 aviones tipo DC 9-30 y una creciente flota de avione tipo MD80, a fin de ofrecer variedad de horario, un mayor número de asientos y disponibilidad de servicios, en cada uno de los vuelos nacionales e internacionales.

    Planes futuros
    La aerolínea creo una filíal con la línea Santa Bárbara Airlines también de Venezuela, con quien emprende la expansión internacional, la llamada ahora SBA Airlines pretende operar desde Caracas a Bogotá, Lima, Miami, Europa y otras localidades. Por otro lado colabora con la aerolínea dominicana Pan Am World Airways Dominicana mejor conocida como Pawa, Simeón García tenia un porcentaje de las acciones de esta línea vendiéndola en abril pasado 2009, actualmente mantiene colaboración indirecta con Pawa a quien le renta 4 DC9.

    We have previously told youhow Verizon will launch the Palm Pre and the Pixi at some point in 2010. Well it looks like Verizon has special plans for Palms webOS smartphones.   • What Palm Needs to Do to Bounce Back

    The last few weeks have been dominated by speculation over two things: the Google Phone and the Apple tablet. One is now a reality. The other is still a myth. And beyond this twin-headed meme, attention has been paid to little else. Forgotten is the fact that BlackBerry is still outselling its rivals and its brand-new 9700 Bold (with touchpad) is arguably the best device the Canadian company has ever made. Also forgotten in the Google vs. Apple battle is a little company called Palm.

    Palm Pre

    Yesterday, I stopped using my Nexus One and resumed using my BlackBerry Bold. (Which explains why I’m once again returning emails and text messages in a timely manner.) I also looked again at the Palm Pre, which had been sitting at the bottom of the drawer, gathering dust. I couldn’t remember exactly why I had stopped using it — though it helped that AT&T’s mobile chief, Ralph de la Vega, today confirmed that Ma Bell was going to start selling the Pre and its younger brother, the Pixi, in 2010.

    Verizon is going to start supporting the Pre as well. With Sprint already in the bag, it seems like Palm finally has the ability to address a big enough market. Of course, it also means the company can no longer claim it doesn’t have enough carrier partners. Helping it get to this point was the fact Palm’s main investor, Elevation Partners, has kept the faith.

    In an interview with Bloomberg, Elevation co-founder Fred Anderson called its investment in the company a “marathon,” and said his firm “hasn’t taken money off the table because we see a huge market opportunity here.” Elevation has invested a total of $460 million in Palm since 2007 and has seen the stock grow threefold in 2009 alone. I admire these guys for keeping the faith.

    After coming off my 10-day Nexus One stint, I realized that barring the iPhone OS, webOS, which powers Palm’s devices, is perhaps the most complete and polished operating environment available. It’s also far more elegant and seamless than either Nokia’s Maemo or Google’s Android. I guess that’s one of the reasons why there’s ongoing speculation that someone — Dell, Nokia or Microsoft — will buy Palm.

    Maybe — and maybe not! In the meantime, the big question is: Can the company stage a comeback? I have not been shy about my feelings as to Palm’s increasing irrelevance, antagonizing Palm fans in the process. There were four basic challenges that were facing the company, in my opinion:

    1. A weak brand.

    2. A weak balance sheet.

    3. Deep-pocketed competitors, including one with a massive customer base.

    4. Being late to the market, thus giving it a weak app store.

    What I liked about Palm:

    1. Its developer community.

    2. webOS.

    3. Vertical integration of its hardware and software à la Apple.

    Palm Pixi

    Palm has had to face the challenges I outlined last year and has continued to struggle. And should the Palm fanboys get upset by that assessment, here is the company’s latest quarterly performance: In the second quarter of its fiscal 2010 period, the company shipped 787,000 smartphones, in line with what Wall Street was expecting — and down 5 percent from what it shipped during the first quarter of fiscal 2010. Which means that five months after it was launched, the Pre is already beginning to lose steam. And don’t forget that also during that fiscal 2010 second quarter, the company put the ultra-cheap Pixi on the market.

    That’s why I still think the odds are against Palm. Still, I would give the company a one-in-five chance of being relevant in two years — as long as it does three things:

    First, it needs to make its hardware less complex. It took playing around with the Pre again to remember why I had hated the device in the first place. While the team had done a good job of coming out with an attractive product — Droid makes it look like a work of art — the device’s user experience was stuck in a previous era, as evidenced by the multiple input options (keyboard/touch) and multiple buttons. So in fact, what I hated was Palm’s Handspring legacy. What the company needs to do is go back to the drawing board and come out with a simpler touchphone: no keyboards, no buttons, nothing.

    Second, it needs to get its app ecosystem going. The single biggest asset Palm has is webOS. As such, it needs to drive home its web-friendliness amongst developers. And in order to do that, all Palm has to do is look at its past — it had developers and apps long before apps were the new black. It needs to get the number of apps up from its woeful 800 to a more respectable number — say, 10,000. It should start by looking at the top 1,000 apps on the iPhone App Store and get them onto webOS. And if it means actually paying developers to keep supporting the platform, so be it. The good news is that the company knows this. Investor Anderson told Bloomberg: “We have to establish a very strong developer ecosystem…a critical mass of very high-quality third-party applications.”

    Third, it needs to get over its Apple complex. CEO Jon Rubenstein and other Apple alums who walk the hallways of Palm need to get over their fixation with Apple and Steve Jobs. You guys are not Steve and your company isn’t Apple. What you are is Palm, a once-iconic PDA maker with decent developer support and a brand that is as hip as Fred Perry. The good news is that Fred Perry is hot again. And seriously guys, stop taking media relationship tips from Apple. It is virtually impossible to even get anyone from your company on the phone anymore, including your CEO. That elusiveness doesn’t work for a company that’s having a tough time getting market traction, doesn’t have the story or the products. You needs to get the media on your side, which means talking to the folks who live and breathe this smartphone stuff.

    These tips aside, the company needs to show more urgency or it will continue to lose relevance in this high-stakes war.

  • Sony’s W370 and W350 Cameras Are First CCD Cameras With Sweep Panorama [Cameras]

    Sony’s announced a glut of new cameras today at CES, but instead of going through all 20-odd of them, I’m only going to show you the best. You deserve the best. Here’s two of them, the DSC-W370 and DSC-W350.

    The 14-megapixel Cybershot DSC-W370 and DSC-W350 have CCD image sensors with Sweep Panorama for capturing places like the Grand Canyon in one big movement. The W370 takes 243 degree shots and the W350 takes 268-degree shots, with the images coming in 7152 x 1080 size. Both models have 7x zoom lenses, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, and can record video in 720p (with a HDMI output for connecting to a TV.)

    The W350, which takes slighter better Panorama pics, is also Sony’s smallest camera for the year. It has a 2.7-inch LCD screen, 26mm lens and 4x optical zoom. The W350 is on sale this month for $200, and the W370 will be on sale a few months later, in March, for $230. [Sony]

    A new 150,000-square foot aquarium could be coming to the foot of the CN Tower.

    If approved by city planners, the aquarium would be a major addition to Toronto’s waterfront and the first brand new tourism attraction to open in the city in years, said Gordon McIvor, the vice-president of the Canada Lands Company, the Crown corporation which owns the CN Tower and the five-acre plot on which the aquarium would be located.

    Canada Lands has entered into a long-term lease agreement with Ripley Entertainment, Inc. to build and operate the aquarium.

    “The site is great, it’s right in the tourism hub,” said Tim O’Brien, the vice-president of communications for Ripley, famous for its “Believe-It-Or-Not” franchise but also the operators of two major U.S. aquariums. “The location is magnificent for us.”

    Mr. O’Brien said it’s too early to say what species of sea life the aquarium would feature. The company and Canada Lands are waiting to see how much of their proposal survives the city re-zoning process that is about to get officially under way at a community council meeting next Tuesday.

    However, Mr. O’Brien said he is “comfortable” the project will go ahead. Mr. McIvor and Mr. O’Brien said they would like to see the first phase of the aquarium open in three years.

    According to a report to the Toronto and East York Community Council, the proposed development would include the aquarium on the lands west of the CN Tower, next to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and a 47,000-square-foot retail and restaurant complex on the east side of the tower.

    The aquarium would open in two phases: A first phase of approximately 96,000 square feet and a second phase of about 54,000 square feet.

    Mr. McIvor praised the project a potential boon for Toronto’s shoreline. “This will enhance all of the businesses in the waterfront area,” he said.

  • David Hasselhoff Leaving “America’s Got Talent”

    David Hasselhoff is leaving America’s Got Talent. After four seasons on NBC’s popular summer talent show, the troubled former actor/singer is walking away from the judges’ panel he shares with pundits Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan.


    “I am proud that I was part of making America’s Got Talent the No. 1 rated show for the past four summers. It’s been a rewarding experience and now I’m thrilled to be able to follow my dream to do my own TV show, which will be announced very shortly,” Hasselhoff, 57, said in statement issued late Wednesday. “I want to thank my friend, (executive producer) Simon Cowell, and everyone at NBC and Fremantle for the opportunity for four great years.”

    While The Hoff has not revealed exactly what he’ll do next, but a trip to rehab might be in order. The star of the ‘80 TV smash Knightrider was hospitalized twice for alcohol-related illnesses in the past year.

    “David’s been an integral part of the success of America’s Got Talent and we are sad to see him go. We wish him all the best with his new show,” NBC said of Hasselhoff’s departure.

    A replacement has not yet been named.

  • Hands On With Motorola Backflip, A Folding Android Phone [Android]

    Think of it like a Cliq, but with a folding instead of a sliding keyboard, so the screen doesn’t cover so much of the keyboard when it’s open.

    Motorola says the guts are basically the same as the Cliq’s, so expect a performance level on par with that and not the Droid. Slower, is what I’m saying. Here’s the Cliq review to refresh yourself.

    The keyboard is interesting, and each key has more surface area, but is more flush with the surface. Usually keys that are more raised to give more tactile feeling type better, and our quick one sentence hands on with it basically gave us that impression as well. But on the bright side, the flip mechanism means that the keyboard can take up the entire surface, so there’s no reaching for the keys over a D-pad like the Droid.

    There’s a scrollpad on the back of the phone, underneath the screen, for scrolling around the OS and web pages with. It’s like a trackpad for a laptop, or the scrollball on the Nexus One. Not all that useful on Android, actually, unless you’re reading a very long webpage that needs scrolling.

    It will have a North American carrier, but Motorola can’t say who yet. Blur looks exactly the same here as it does on the Cliq, so it’s kind of unlikely that T-Mobile will have two phones that are basically the same phone, so I’m thinking AT&T? Maybe? Update: Probably AT&T, because we SAW IT THIS MORNING. Not sure why Sanjay Jha is being so evasive when he stood in front of a 15-foot photo of it earlier today. Thanks commenters!
