It’s time to grab your dark shades and break out the Brain Bleach — A sex tape featuring Jersey Shore’s pint-sized loudmouth Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi could soon hit the shelves of your favorite adult toy store.

In a candid chat with the Jan. 11 issue of Life & Style, the 22-year-old self professed “Princess of Poughkeepsie” admits she’s allowed her bedroom stylings and pickle-suckin’ practices to be immortalized on tape during a few past hookups with her beloved “juicers.”
Of course, all that was long before she became the breakout star of the season’s trashiest reality hit. Snooki says she’d never try to cash in on any archived footage. “I don’t want people to watch me doing that,” she says. “It’s a private thing.”
Whille Snooki might think her homemade skin flicks are for her eyes only, someone could earn a mayjah payday if any of that footage ever made it into the right hands. Steven Hirsch, founder of celebrity-stalking porn giant Vivid Entertainment, tells Life & Style that a sex tape starring the heavily-tanned Italian could sell for between “$1 million and $3 million.”

Earlier this year, Panasonic shared a dual-lensed 3D camcorder concept with the world. Today, they showed off a new iteration, which will be available…sometime, they promised.
Thee little guy looks so sad in this second shot.
It’s surprising how often Europeans comment on the relative awfulness of American chocolate. They are, of course, entirely correct. My personal favorite is Belgian chocolate, but almost any European chocolate is better than the waxy substance available here. When I was at the Economist, my trips to Britain always meant I’d be eating at least one Cadbury’s candy bar a day.
So it’s a little amusing to see that Cadbury may be running from Kraft’s takeover bid into the arms of . . . Hershey, the most quintissentially American of the American chocolate companies.
Any port in a storm, I suppose, and at least if they ruin the brand
they’ll do it by importing American chocolate-making techniques, rather
than the strategic thinking and know-how behind Velveeta. Hershey and
Cadbury already cross-distribute each other’s products, as I understand
it, so at least there’s some relationship there.
But boy, does a Cadbury/Hershey deal seem unlikely. Cadbury is more than twice the size of Hershey, and the Hershey board is said to be split,
with some of the directors concerned about the implications of the debt
they’d need to take on. As well they should be. Taking on big debt to
buy another company is risky in the best of times, and these are not
the best of times. Though perhaps candy bars are countercyclical, as
the world rushes to drown its sorrows in chocolate.

Professional motorsports have been, and still are, heavily male-dominated. There have been few females to break through this barrier, and even fewer have actually experienced any level of success. We’re hoping to see more women enter the field, hauling ass in drag racers, stock cars and motorcycles — we’re getting tired watching the same guys year after year. Here are 15 of the hottest women in the world of racing — get ready to eat their dust.

Gorgeous Danica Patrick has been racing since the early age of 10. She’s since moved on from Go Karts and now competes in the IndyCar series, and has taken away one win in Japan at the 2008 Indy 300. Not only does she fire up the track, but has modeled for the likes of FHM, Sports Illustrated, and is the current face of GoDaddy.com.

Daughter of 14-time NHRA Funny Car national champion John Force, Ashley was the first female to claim a professional NHRA Funny Car win — and it was against her own dad. In 2007 she was named NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series’ Rookie of the Year, and stomped out Danica Patrick the same year on the AOL Sports Poll as Hottest Athlete.

Brittany and Courtney Force are Ashley’s little sisters, and good looks definitely seem to run in the family. Courtney, the youngest at 21, picked up her first National event in the Top Alcohol Dragster category at the 22nd annual NHRA Northwest Nationals. She’s competed against her sister Brittany three times, and has been victorious every time. Brittany, identified by Force as his “problem child,” is a headstrong California blonde with a serious need for speed.

Competing in the NHRA’s Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions, Melanie Troxel is one of drag racing’s fastest female drivers. She ran her first race at age 16 — the soonest she was able to get her racing license — in a car with an engine she rebuilt herself. She boasts five wins in her career, and is the first female to score wins in both the Top Fuel and Funny Car categories.

As of 2008, Hillary Will is the World’s Fastest Woman, posting a 335 MPH lap down the quarter-mile race track. She’s only been racing professionally as an NHRA Top Fuel driver for three years, but her love of all things fast began at the ripe age of 17. Her first competitive car was a 1973 Dodge Challenger that topped out at 99 MPH, and she’s since been named one of the top ten female racers in the world by Sports Illustrated.

Daughters of renowned International Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, Steve Harker, Kate and Diana are two hot Aussie twins. Their love of racing began at age 13 when they got ahold of a 110cc Briggs and Straton powered 10-second Junior Dragster. Just 10 years later, the two packed their bags and moved to America to join the NHRA Top Fuel category. In 2008, Diana made history at the Lucas Oil Super Nationals when she became the first Australian female to win an NHRA National event.

Shifting gears from drag racing, we found a rare female competitor in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Growing up around her two brothers, Deborah Renshaw took to racing like a duck to water. She first participated in NASCAR when she began racing in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series in 2001 and 2002, finishing in the top 10 thirteen times in the two seasons. In 2004 she ran in 14 of the last 15 races of the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, and despite finishing no higher than 15th, she became the first woman to ever lead a race in the series when she led one lap in the Darlington 200.

Sultry Katherine Legge is a driver hailing from Britain, and she’s currently racing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. She was the first woman to test an A1 Grand Prix car in 2005, and became the first woman since 2002 to test a Formula 1 car. Year 2005 was Legge’s best year, in which she finished the season third in the Toyota Atlantic Championship and received the Toyota Atlantic BBS Rising Star 2005 Award.

Beginning her drag racing career at just 8 years old, Erica Enders became the most successful female Pro Stock driver in NHRA history. She has racked up 37 career Jr. Dragster wins in eight years of competition, and was named Jr. Dragster of the Year in 1995. In 2006 she finished runner-up in the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. To top it off, the Disney Channel made her life story into an original TV movie called, Right On Track.

Angelle began her racing career in 1996 and has the most wins for any female in both NHRA competition and professional motor sports as a whole — which is saying a lot. She races American Pro Stock Motorcycles, which are basically the most badass crotch rockets you’ll ever lay eyes on. She’s one of only two women to ever win more than one championship in her division — she won three.

Venezuelan beauty, Milka Duno is the first woman from her native country to start a career in Motorsports at an international level. Not only is she one of the top female sportscar racers in history, but she is also a qualified Naval Engineer with four master’s degrees — in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Fishing and Aquaculture, and Maritime Business –- earning the last three degrees simultaneously. Beauty and brains. In 2007 she set, and still holds, the record of highest finish for a female driver in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Liz Halliday is a rare breed of female athlete. She dedicates her life to not just one, but two international sporting careers — the first being racecar driver and the second as an equestrian. Her ambitions are mighty: to claim a place on the US Olympic equestrian team and to win the famous 24 LeMans race. She seems very focused and driven, which is an intimidating combination to say the least — factoring in her beauty as well, and she’s downright scary. In just two seasons, she’s already the most successful female driver ever in the history of the American Le Mans Series. We look forward to seeing what she’ll accomplish in the coming years.

Hailing from Switzerland, Cyndie Allemann started her racing career in karting at the age of 7, and eventually moved to cars in 2004. That same year, she finished sixth in the Formule Renault 2.0 Suisse. Only two years later, she moved up to the Formel 3 Cup and placed ninth.

Erin Crocker’s love of racing began when she raced quarter midgets at the age of 7. In 2004, after racing professionally for two years, she won the opportunity to drive for Ford Motor Company’s driver development program. She became the first woman to win a World of Outlaws race. After a couple years struggling in the Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series, she returned to racing sprint cars under her own banner.

Beating the boys at extreme sports since a young age, Valerie Limoges first experienced a race track at age 13, and hasn’t turned back since. Once her great potential was discovered, she went on to make history by being the first girl to clinch the Quebec 125cc Shifter Cup Championship in 2001. Now 22, she is competing in the Formula Renault 2000 Series in North America.
Chicago’s law firms are promoting new leaders in the new year.
I’ve written about Kirkland & Ellis’ new chairman, Jeffrey Hammes, and in Tuesday’s paper I highlighted the change in Skadden Arps, where Wayne Whalen is stepping down after 25 years at the helm of the Chicago office. The full post will follow.
After I wrote about Whalen, I received word that Chapman & Cutler also has a new top partner. Timothy Mohan succeeds Richard Cosgrove as chief executive partner. Cosgrove served the firm’s maximum of two four-year terms.
Mohan has been with Chapman since 1985, practicing in the firm’s structured finance and banking department.
Here’s my story on the leadership change at Skadden Arps:
‘Tis the season for leadership changes at Chicago law firms, and one of the biggest involves Wayne Whalen.
Whalen, 70, stepped aside Friday as head of the Chicago office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in favor of Brian Duwe, a 49-year-old specialist in mergers and acquisitions.Whalen, who groomed his successor, has been the heart of Skadden’s robust Chicago operation since its inception in 1984. Whalen was one of six partners at Mayer Brown who decamped to set up a branch office of the New York firm. The move sent shock waves through Chicago’s legal community at the time because partners rarely left such prestigious firms.
Since then, Whalen has helped Skadden become a legal powerhouse in Chicago. In the late ’80s, the Chicago office was Skadden’s busiest operation, including New York. Whalen oversaw a broad diversification into mutual funds, public finance and litigation.
Yet it remains on the short list of firms Midwestern companies turn to for big deals, from friendly mergers to hostile takeovers. In 2008, the Chicago office worked on three of the five largest mergers and acquisitions involving local companies, including Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co.’s $23 billion sale to Mars Inc.
Like other big firms, Skadden’s volume of legal business in the Chicago office slowed in the middle of last year, Whalen said.
Duwe remained busy. He represents Deerfield-based CF Industries Holdings Inc. in its proposed unsolicited takeover of rival fertilizer manufacturer Terra Industries Inc. At the same time, Duwe is helping his client fend off a hostile bid from Agrium Inc.
Whalen recruited Duwe to the firm out of University of Chicago Law School in 1986. Duwe understands he has big shoes to fill.
"Wayne has done an incredible job," Duwe said. "It’s hard to think about following him because it seems almost an impossible task."
Whalen still commands a corner office in Skadden’s new office at 155 N. Wacker Drive and intends to keep practicing. The northwest view of the Chicago River outside his windows has not changed much since the office moved last summer from 333 W. Wacker Drive.
He said the timing was right to pass the torch after 25 years because of the new office location as well as leadership changes at Skadden’s headquarters in Manhattan.
Personal injury firm loses partner: Michael Mahoney has left the firm of Burke, Mahoney & Wise to set up his own shop with another lawyer.
Mahoney’s departure was unexpected to practitioners in Chicago’s personal-injury arena. His former firm was successful for a boutique operation of four lawyers, recovering more than $53 million in settlements from nine cases between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009, according to Chicago Lawyer magazine.
Kevin Burke said he does not expect Mahoney’s move to have a financial impact on the firm.
"The remaining members of the firm were happy he made the decision to go elsewhere," Burke said. "He’s developed a style of practice different from ours. We want to practice with a sense of urgency."
Mahoney responded that many of his cases are contentious and take longer to resolve. "I have no control over that," he said.
He and fellow personal injury lawyer Lisa Damico have started their own practice.

The leak was true. DirecTV will be launching 3 dedicated channel for 3D content within 2010.
Partners include CBS, FoxSports, HDNet and more, plus DirecTV will be making their own content.
Customers with DirecTV HD boxes will receive a free firmware update in Q2 2010, making their existing systems work with future 3D HDTVs. That’s all we know for now, but the backward compatibility certainly sounds good to us.
We have covered both the Monster Turbines and Turbine Pros and now they have gone ahead and announced a new version called the Turbine Pro Copper. The Copper version promises to up the ante even more in sound quality and even price since it will cost about a whopping $399.95 for a regular pair of in-ear speakers or $429.95 with ControlTalk. For that kind of price we are dying to hear if they are worth their weight in copper! The Turbine Pro Copper Edition will not only come with its renowned SuperTips but with additional foam tips as well. The Turbine Pro Copper edition is bound to make audiophiles mouths water it’s just a matter of time till we can determine if they are indeed worth the astounding price.
Jules asked about recycling a toaster. If a small appliance is in good shape, the answer is easy. You simply pass it on to another person. Freecycle, Craigslist and thrift stores are all good options for rehoming an appliance that still works. The toaster in question seems to be at the end of its useful life, though. Unfortunately, when it is not working or has become dangerous to operate, getting rid of that appliance without tossing it in the trash isn’t so easy.
So, what do you do?
One option is simply leaving an appliance unattended in your yard in a spot that can be seen from the road for a few minutes. You’ll hear the roar of a truck streaking away and look out at your nice empty yard. (If your neighbors are polite and don’t trespass, you might need to put the appliance out at your curb instead with a free sign on it.)
Another option is to call around to repair shops and see if they take free appliances to use for spare parts. It can be tough to find repair shops these days, but a few still exist.
A final option is to see if your small appliance would be useful to a salvage operation. If it has any metal, the operation may be able to reclaim it before disposing of parts that can’t be recycled.
Do you have any tips for recycling small appliances?

TVO Search Engine has an insightful podcast (mp3) on the “Responsible Communications” Supreme Court case,
“The Supreme Court of Canada’s recent libel ruling isn’t just a victory for journalists – it unshackles every voice on the Internet, and reminds us that in the eyes of the law, journalists don’t actually exist.”
Not by me. I've tried predicting things before on this blog, without much success. But trade lawyer Scott Lincicome is willing to give it a shot. Here are his predictions (for his rationale for each one, check his blog here):
Low Hanging Fruit
(1) The WTO's Doha Round won't collapse entirely, but it also won't be any closer to completion. 2011 will become the new target date (for whatever that's worth). …
(2) There will be no change to US farm and "green energy" subsidy policies. …
(3) Bilateral and regional FTAs will continue at a furious pace across the world, but (4) new US negotiations under the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Framework will be interminably slow. …
(5) There will be no "trade war" between the United States and China. …
50/50s
(1) 2010 will see a significant increase in anti-subsidy actions under domestic trade laws and WTO rules. …
(2) Congress will approve none of the pending US FTAs. …
(3) Eco-protectionism will increase around the world. …
Total Shots in the Dark
(1) The failure of Cap and Trade in the Congress will cause the EPA to begin reviewing import regulations on GHGs and GHG-intensive products. …
(2) China will not unpeg its currency vs. the US dollar (despite 12 more threatening NYT columns by Paul Krugman). …

Late night comic David Letterman has come under fire from a pair of gay rights advocacy groups over an anti-transgender skit mocking the Obama administration’s appointment of Amanda Sampson to a senior position at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Amanda — who was born Mitch 48 years ago — started her job as a senior technical advisor on Tuesday. Dave and his Late Show crew used the historic appointment to poke fun at gender-bending by featuring a “Trans Panic” spoof that aired on last night’s program. GLAAD and The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, have presented the Late Show’s parent network, CBS, with letters denouncing the controversial sketch.
Both groups are calling for a public apology.
“Depicting people reacting in horror to transgender individuals is a dangerous stereotype for popular media to perpetuate because it contributes to the societal conception of transgender people as abnormal and deceptive, which all-too-often results in anti-transgender violence and/or discrimination when played out in reality,” GLAAD said in a statement Wednesday. “We are reaching out to CBS Late Show with David Letterman with our concerns about this transphobic joke. Please send your concerns to CBS.”
The Human Rights Campaign writes: “You may not be aware that the punch line in your skit has been used as a defense in nearly every hate crime perpetrated against transgender people that has come to trial….Your skit affirmed and encouraged a prejudice against transgender Americans that keeps many from finding jobs, housing, and enjoying freedoms you and your writers take for granted every day. We ask that you apologize publicly to Ms. Simpson and the transgender community for this unfortunate episode.”
