  • Renault Confirm Eric Boullier as F1 Team Manager

Eric Boullier will take over the team manager role within the Renault F1 Team from 2010 onwards, as confirmed by the Enstone based team earlier on Tuesday. The announcement doesn’t come as a shock to anybody, as the former team manager of GP2 Series outfit DAMS was in discussion to take over from Bob Bell since mid-December.

Boullier entered the race for the leading position within the Renault F1 organization shortly after the team was purchased by Gerard Lopez’ Genii Capital. The… (read more)

  • Universal Videoconferencing

While Fred Wilson has his review of his Google Phone up already, I’m more intrigued with all the pre-CES announcements.  I’ll be walking the floor on Thursday soaking it all in and I’m pretty excited this year based on all the chatter.  One thing that has me particularly stoked is what I’m going to call “universal videoconferencing.”

I saw my first “videophone” around 30 years ago.  It sucked but the idea was magical (and still is).  Like my personal jetpack, I’ve been waiting patiently for it.  Very patiently.  For 30 years.

I think 2010 is the year it finally happens.  Engadget has a review of Skype HD (720p) and videocalling from PCs or Internet connected LG & Panasonic HDTVs (damnit – I knew I shouldn’t have bought that new Samsung.)  720p is plenty for me on my 30” computer monitor or my 50” TV.  With Skype (I’m bradfeld btw) the video / audio layer is free and broadly compatible (no more fighting with specialized hardware).

I’ve been doing low-res Skype videoconferencing for a while and now chat with my dad a few times a week.  I finally got Amy using it and while she’s in Keystone and I’m in Boulder it’s almost like we are together (without the smell-a-vision).  But the video quality is mediocre and it still feels limited to being in front of a computer to use.

Now, put it on a TV in your living room.  In HD.  On a 50” screen.  The picture in the NY Times article A Venture Integrating Skype Into the Family Room is perfect.

The only thing wrong here is the remote control.  There is no good reason why the 50” screen with the video camera built in can’t do simple gesture recognition to “answer”, “volume up”, “volume down”, and “hang up.”  That’s next.

One of my goals in 2010 is to get HD videoconferencing set up across all of the places I live and work.  My 30” screens are a good start.  And – with some of the announcements coming (and stuff I expect to see at CES) I’m optimistic that I might be able to get this working with standard equipment and Skype this year.

  • Ceton 4-Tuner CableCard Price and Info Leaked

Dave Zatz is reporting that the Ceton Quad-Tuner CableCard that the Windows MediaCenter community has been waiting for anxiously will sell for $399 and be part of the annual Microsoft opening CES keynote address tomorrow night.  Zatz speculates that the inclusion of Ceton in Steve Balmers CES keynote signals possible additional attention on MediaCenter or at least home media tech.

Looks like this CES could actually end up being a significant one for the GeekTonic crowd – check out my “what to watch for at CES” post for an idea of what I’m looking for this year.  We should learn much more in the coming days.  What do you MediaCenter/HTPC enthusiasts think of the price for the 4-tuner CableCard Ceton?

    Dati principali:
    – La pista rappresenta un reale patrimonio infrastrutturale dell’aeroporto con i suoi 3.200 metri utilizzabili di lunghezza;
    – Presenza di una seconda pista (taxiway) in grado di sostituirsi alla prima in caso di necessità;
    – Ampia aerostazione capace di ricevere 2,5/3 milioni di passeggeri all’anno;
    – Superficie complessiva, compresa cioè l’area militare in dismissione, di 370 ettari da sfruttare sia per attività aeronautiche sia di natura commerciale;
    – Subentro dell’Enav all’Aeronautica militare, che muoverà notevoli investimenti in direzione dell’ammodernamento della strumentazione di assistenza al volo e l’accordo tra la Repubblica italiana e la Repubblica di San Marino, con l’emanazione del regolamento attuativo, che fornirà allo scalo riminese lo status europeo ed extraeuropeo.

    Distanze principali in linea d’aria:
    Riccione: 4Km
    Rimini: 6Km
    San Marino: 15Km
    Pesaro: 26Km
    Cesena: 33Km

(Air Berlin, Air Dolomiti, Alitalia, Austrian, Atlant-Soyuz, Belleair, BluePanorama, Eurofly, Finnair, Globus, Luxair, Lufthansa, Mistralair, Rossiya, Red Wings, Ryanair, Sas, Tuifly, Thomas Cook, Transavia, VimAirlines, Yakutia, UralAirlines)

  • Honda New Small Concept revealed, production model coming to India in 2011

    Honda New Small Concept

Shortly after Toyota announced that it will debut a new compact car concept for the Indian market at the 10 Auto Expo New Delhi Show on January 5th, Honda announced that it will follow with its own. Well, here it is.

Known as Honda New Small Concept (creative, we know), the model shows what a new compact model will look like when it goes on sale in 2011, in India and in Thailand.

“For the Honda New Small Concept, a wide platform with a stable center of gravity was adopted to create a highly efficient compact size with seating for five people,” Honda says. “With the ‘Efficient Energetic Exterior’ design, the dynamic design of the Honda New Small Concept with front forward fenders highlight the presence of the vehicle.”

Honda says that the production model of the new small vehicle will go “beyond the expectations of customers in rapidly growing markets and offer it at an affordable price.”

  • Assigning speed dial keys on your BlackBerry Storm

I sometimes feel like the BlackBerry Storm doesn’t get enough love around these parts. Maybe if RIM would send us one (wink wink, nudge nudge) we’d write more about it, but for the most part we have to rely on friends and family members for most of our Storm content. So, when someone posts a Storm tip, we’ll be quick to point their way. In the past we’ve gone over how to assign a speed dial key on your BlackBerry, as well as reassigning the A, W, and Q speed dial keys. That’s fine and good for the QWERTY models, but what about the Storm? Robb at RIMarkable has the tip.

  • Rasmussen College, Inc. Strengthens Business by Investing in the Whole of Its Employees

Online Education Provider Offers Significant Development Opportunities

Recently named one of the “Top 20 Companies Hiring Now” and “Top 100 Companies for Working Families,” Rasmussen College, Inc. credits much of its success to the strength of its employee base.

Thus, as the organization begins the 2010 fiscal year, Rasmussen continues to expand its long-standing efforts to provide employees and their families with a wide range of opportunities for growth and betterment, from health care benefits to professional development.

“Rasmussen invests in the ongoing development and long-term support of every employee through a variety of mediums designed to support the whole of the employee and the qualities that enhance our organization and the communities we serve,” said Greg Finkelstein, the Vice President of Human Capital and Corporate Communications at Rasmussen.

“Tuition scholarships, enhanced medical benefits, employee professional growth opportunities and community involvement are just a few of the reasons our company is consistently recognized as a great place to work.”

By investing in its employees and their families, Rasmussen strengthens its ability to assist students as they grow, which in turn helps them strengthen their appeal to the local employers who will hire them.

Rasmussen’s impressive employee benefits package includes:

    Employee Scholarships

All scholarships awarded through Rasmussen College, Inc. are offered without an employee commitment clause. They include the Nemitz Family Scholarship Program, which is designed to support employees, their spouses, partners and children as they pursue higher education through Rasmussen College with limited investment.

The Marvin Wachman Scholarship Program is designed to afford qualified family members the opportunity to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees through the Deltak partner institutions either free or at significantly reduced tuition rates.

Finally, the soon-to-be released Thurston Manning Scholarship Program is designed specifically for Rasmussen faculty and will provide support as they pursue advanced degrees in their field of study.

    Expanded Family Benefits

Beyond the educational support provided for spouses, partners and children, Rasmussen invests heavily in its employees and their families.

With expansive family medical coverage, short and long-term disability programs and a 401(k) program with healthy organization-funded matching, Rasmussen understands the importance family plays in the success of all individuals.

    Professional Development

Rasmussen has a history of commitment to the professional development of its employees. In recent years, additional key investments were made to bolster these efforts.

In 2008, the Rasmussen system established an Organizational Development branch with the purpose of providing expanded employee support programs.

The first of these programs, the Rasmussen Leadership Institute (RLI), was launched in 2009. RLI is a forum for some of the organization’s most successful managers to interact and form relationships with company leaders, be immersed in business education and nurture their strong leadership skills, all of which contribute to their professional development.

In September 2009, 24 leaders within the Rasmussen organization graduated from RLI following more than six months of training, workshops and professional development.

    Recognition Programs

Each campus and central office has developed local awards programs to recognize its employees. One such program is the REMy Award (standing for Rasmussen Excellence Moment).

This award is given at each of Rasmussen’s central offices on a monthly basis to the team member who has displayed excellence in their professional work.

On a system-wide basis, Rasmussen also recognizes employees in academics, operations and central services through the Harlan Employee Recognition Program, given to those who have stepped outside the normal scope of their roles to support Rasmussen communities, employees or students.

    Community Involvement

By operating in partnership with local communities, Rasmussen creates a bond between the organization, its employees and the communities they serve.

In the first nine months of 2009, Rasmussen hosted or participated in more than 50 local community service projects, ranging from blood drives to Relay for Life. On July 17, 2009, Rasmussen employees participated in 3,600 cumulative hours of community service across five states as part of a company-wide community day.

The Epilepsy Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers and Goodwill Easter Seals were among the organizations that benefited from this outreach.

Rasmussen leaders understand that by supporting employees and their families, they raise levels of employee satisfaction and productivity, which guarantees excellent support of both their students and the communities they collectively serve.

Many of the programs in Rasmussen’s suite of benefits were suggested and are currently fostered by employees at all levels and not merely by senior administration.

This reinforces the reputation Rasmussen has established as an employer of choice around the country. As Rasmussen expands into new regions, it continues to focus on recruiting top talent to maintain and expand its culture in new marketplaces.

  • Logitech Seeking Android Developer for New Product

A recent job posting listed on Logitech’s website indicates a need for a “super-star engineer” to help develop a breakthrough product which combines “an Android UI with web based content and media services”. It is unknown as to what type of product is in development, but the job listing describes the need of a developer with the ability to create “simple and elegant UIs that are the window into a world of web based streaming media”.

The position is within Logitech’s “Digital Home Group” department, which seems to rule out any interest in a mobile product. Engadget surmises they may be looking to incorporate Android into its Squeezebox lineup.

Logitech Squeezebox devices already offer apps for Facebook, Flickr, Pandora, Last.fm, and Slacker Radio, most of which are also available in Android form. Building a device which integrates Android’s UI and wealth of applications would be a smart way to stay up to date with applications, without losing focus on the product itself. Although this new product may be intended to be a home entertainment offering, it is indeed possible the application in development could also be accessible by mobile devices, adding one more leg for Android to stand on as a media powerhouse.

  • Male Pattern Baldness – Causes and Treatments

Male pattern baldness is something most adult men suffer from. It arises from hair thinning and usually starts from the center of the head and moves towards the lower region of the head. While men usually get bald within 15-20 years’ time, some men bald in 5 years.

Male pattern baldness is attributed to various factors like hypothyroidism, which causes thinning and balding of eyebrows. Some medical treatments like chemotherapy can lead to hair loss and balding in some cases. Heredity is also a main cause for male pattern baldness, which passes from one generation to another.

In addition to this, aging leads to male pattern baldness as hair stops growing with age, which eventually leads to baldness. Even tumors and skin outgrowths can lead to temporary and localized baldness. In some cases, even stress, anxiety and depression can lead to slow baldness too.

Decide treatment based on the cause

It is based on the cause of male pattern baldness that you can decide on the right hair loss treatment. If the cause is heredity or aging, nothing much can be done about treating it. Though it is possible to postpone balding due to aging, it is not possible to cure the condition as aging is a natural process.

However balding attributed to local skin or scalp infections, or tumors can be cured by medication. However this is a slow process that takes months before you find your hair growing fully.

Hair loss attributed to chemotherapy or any serious illness can be cured by medication prescribed by doctors unlike natural hair loss treatment. Moreover, once chemotherapy or other such medical treatments are stopped, hair usually starts growing back.

    Artificial hair transplants

There are some cases of totally incurable male pattern baldness. In such cases, artificial hair transplant and hair weaves are great options to treat balding. Though the procedure can be painful and expensive, they can permanently cure balding.

There are however some natural hair loss remedies that help treat male pattern baldness like rubbing of fingernails of both hands with each other. Though unbelievable, it proves to cure male pattern baldness and gray hair. Even those who don’t suffer from baldness can use this to prevent hair fall.

    Hair massage

Massaging your head with herbal oils help to grow new hair. However be careful while choosing your oil as some oils only make false claims while others are effective in hair restoration. It is by nourishing hair roots that the growth of hair is induced.

Except for resorting to wigs, hair transplantation and hair weaves, there are no permanent cures for male pattern baldness. The best thing to thus do is prevent male pattern baldness. This can be done by following regular eating and sleeping habits with a healthy diet. Avoid using chemical treatments on your hair and use only mild shampoos. Last, but not least, always maintain good hygiene of your scalp.

  • Preventing Hair Loss: How you Can Prevent your Hair From Falling Out

First of all, you need to remember that everyone experiences hair loss. On average, humans shed about 100 strands of hair each day. However, if hair fall is rather severe and you start observing that your hair is starting to thin out, then you should start being worried about it. There are quite a lot of hair loss treatments available today. But, you may want to know that preventing hair loss should be the first thing that you have to know about in order for you to avoid getting your problem treated.

Always remember that prevention is better than getting a particular condition treated. By knowing how to prevent hair loss, you will never have to spend a lot of money on hair loss treatment products and services again.

Now, in order for you to know how you can prevent hair loss, you first need to know what the different conditions are that can result in hair loss.

The first and the most common cause of hair loss is poor diet. You need to remember that your hair is also a part of your body that needs nourishing in order for it to live. By eating the wrong kinds of foods, you will see that your hair will start to fall off and will also be prone to breakage. Be sure that you should nourish your hair by eating foods rich in iron and zinc in order for it to remain healthy and strong.

Men and women who have long hair should avoid getting their hair pulled. Getting your hair pulled is not only done by pulling it with your own hands, but it can also be wearing your hair with a tight hair style. This will put a strain on the hair follicle which can result in damaging it and scarring the scalp. You also have to remember that it can also cause permanent damage to the hair follicle which will render it unable to grow hair again.

It is important that you should not rub your scalp with a towel in order for it to dry. Instead of rubbing it, try patting it with the towel instead to get rid of excess moisture and let the hair dry naturally.

Constantly wearing caps and wigs will suffocate your scalp which will not allow the hair follicles to work effectively. So, as much as possible try to avoid wearing caps.

You also need to remember that different people have different hair types. For this, you will need to use a specific shampoo formulated for the type of hair you have. This will not only prevent hair loss, but it will also keep your hair healthy. Always remember to follow the recommended usage of your shampoo in order to avoid overusing it which can also lead to hair loss.

Hair dyes or hair colorants contains strong chemicals that is not that friendly to the hair and the hair follicles. So, try to avoid using hair colorants as this will eventually lead to weak hair and damaged hair follicles which can lead to hair loss.

If you constantly swim in the sea or in a swimming pool that contains chlorine in the water, make sure that you rinse your hair and scalp thoroughly after swimming. Always remember that salt and chlorine is deadly for your hair and hair follicles.

These are the few ways on how you can prevent hair loss. As you can see, preventing hair loss is simple. By remembering some of the tips mentioned, you can be sure that you will never have to experience hair loss early on in life.

  • The provillus review differentiates Female PB from Male Pattern Baldness

Several reasons cause hair loss in women.  The most common reason for this happening is genetic.  If there is a history in the family of rapid hair loss for whatever reason, then the chances are that you may be affected at some stage in life.  Health problems, whether age related or caused due to menopause or childbirth can create hair loss for women due to hormonal imbalances in the body.

The Provillus review explains the different causes for hair loss in men and women.Men do not undergo physical changes internally but also suffer from hair loss.  The reasons could be hereditary, due to sudden weight loss or gain, or age related.  Provillus hair growth system works best for women who should ensure that they stick to the recommended dose as excessive use of the product could cause adverse reactions.

Minoxidil is the main ingredient found in Provillus.  The amount used is about two percent as this is a powerful topical treatment for hair loss.  Provillus is a two-pronged approach for Female Pattern Baldness.  Along with Minoxidil, dietary supplements prevent hormonal surges and provide nutrients for the hair to grow again. If you read the Provillus review, you will see that the product is FDA approved and is recommended by health groups in newsletters, magazines etc.

Check out the provillus review online at their website.  The other ingredients that are combined together in the supplements are water-soluble B6 vitamins, Biotin, Magnesium, dried stems and leaves of ancient medicines like Horsetail Silica and Para-Amino Benzoic acid, which may prevent hair from graying prematurely and falling.  These supplements work to produce healthy hair, skin and nails.

It is important to read the instructions and check out the pictures, which show the degree of hair loss in different individuals.  Provillus may not work on individuals who are pregnant, nursing mothers, women who suffer from thyroid imbalances or menopause. These situations should be controlled before using the product for effective hair growth solutions.  Caution is required when using Minoxidil.  The solution should be applied on dry hair and hands should be thoroughly washed after use.  Allow four to six weeks for the treatment to work.  Hair is the crowning feature for women and every care should be taken to stop hair fall.

Honda New Small Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

India’s Auto Expo 2010 kicked off this week and the first major concept to come out of New Delhi is this: the Honda New Small Concept.

Befitting its name, the New Small Concept is both compact and rather bland – particularly when compared to Honda’s recent stylistic endeavors – but the five-door hatch is sure to find budget-minded buyers when it arrives in both India and Thailand in 2011.

Unfortunately, details on the proposed powertrain and interior are all but nonexistent, with Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (Honda’s Indian arm) simply stating that the HSC can fit five people and benefits from an “Efficient Energetic Exterior.” For an inexpensive runabout, the HSC has potential to be a hit in emerging markets, but don’t expect it to hit U.S. or European shores anytime soon. Make a break for the brief press release after the jump.

    UPDATE:
Live pics added to the gallery below thanks to Indianautoblog.com.
UPDATE 2: Reports indicate (Automotive News – Sub. Req.) that Honda will sell the compact hatch for around 500,000 rupees (a little over $10,000) and power will be provided by a range of engines, maxing out at 1.2-liters.

  • Apple set to purchase mobile ad company Quattro Wireless?

It looks like Apple is getting ready to take on Google in the mobile ad space as the latter had recently purchased AdMob for $750 million. Quattro Wireless, a direct competitor of AdMob, will be picked up by Apple for a cool $275 million according to BoomTown. The company has already raised approximately $30 million in venture capital funding since starting in 2006 and has worked with big names like the NFL, CBS and Univision. Quattro Wireless has also had a presence on mobile web and in-app ads on the iPhone and Android as well. It will be very interesting to see how mobile ads change in the future and where Apple plans to go with Quattro. So far, neither Apple or Quattro Wireless have confirmed or commented on the buyout but the rumor says the announcement will come very soon even possibly this morning.
