So here’s the good news: Turtle Beach announced a universal version of their gaming-oriented chat headset. In stereo, it mixes your talking with your gaming perfectly, meaning you won’t be shouting at your teammates (unintentionally). Here’s the bad news:
Just like the otherwise superb Astro A40s, the Ear Force PX21s require a lot of cordage—namely, a USB plug for chat audio and a line to your stereo RCA outputs. Plus, they cost $80, which, at $20 more than Turtle Beach’s similar Xbox 360 exclusive stereo headset, is putting you into surround sound headset territory.
But if you game a lot on the 360 and the PS3—which many of you do—the PX21 may be worth a look.
Note: If you’re willing to drop a bit more coin and can go without chatting on the PS3, the more expensive X41 headset is both wireless and fantastic. [Turtle Beach]
Not the first time Nvidia’s slapped bigger numbers on older cards, PC Perspective reports that a bunch of the 300 series cards are reincarnated versions of previous cards.
The GeForce 310 is the same as the GeForce 210, using the GT218 core; the GeForce 315 uses the same GT216 core as the GT 220; and the GT 340 is basically a GT 240. And then there’s the GT 320 and GT 330, which use the G92b core, which has roots going back to the GeForce 8800 GT (a card that debuted in 2007).
The promise of a gaming mousepad is somewhat intangible—”more precise mousing.” But can you really tell if it’s letting you headshot more dudes? Razer’s Vespula, however, offers something you can feel: Two completely different mousing surfaces in one.
The Damage
Thirtee-five dollars, retail—meaning you’ll probably be able to find it for cheaper.
The Verdict
An aggressively (m)angled rectangle, Vespula is hard mousepad with two distinct surfaces, one on each side: A “precision” surface, which is textured and bumpy, like the softer side of side of sandpaper, and a speed side, which is smooth, not unlike the glass trackpads on MacBooks. The difference between the two is immediately apparent—when applying the same amount of force to the mouse, it moves half the distance on the precision surface. So, if you’re sniping, the precision side is better, since make more subtle movements by default. If you need zip all over the pad with quickness, the speed side is a better bet.
The large groove cut into the bottom of the pad is for a gel wrist rest, which is a nice idea in theory, but it’s way too tall—no matter how I positioned my chair or wrist, it wasn’t comfortable in the slightest. And I wish there was more mousing area, too.
There’s also no way to dynamically switch between the different surfaces—believe it or not, it’s annoying to flip the pad around mid-gun fight (stupid physics!).
To me, what’s most important about a pad beyond the fact that it works is how it feels, since the micron-level measurements companies bloviate about are beyond all but the most anal of gamers. The Vespula’s a good mousepad. Tracking’s undeniably accurate. But the question of exactly how much more precise Vespula is versus a regular pad for gaming is nearly rendered moot by the fact it offers the very tangible benefit of two very different mousing surfaces that each have a distinct feel. At least one of them, you’re sure to like.

Who says PC can’t have fun too? The folks over at Mark/Space may be of the Macintosh-inclined variety, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to work to make their products fully capable for their Windows-using brethren. To that end, Mark/Space has released a new version of The Missing Sync for webOS that brings two-way calendar synchronization to the PC side of their software. Previously two-way calendar sync was only supported for Mac users.
Change an event name on your webOS phone and sync it back to your computer. Add a location and adjust the time on your PC and then push that back to your phone. Life with webOS and Outlook just got easier. The Missing Sync for webOS is available from Mark/Space’s website for $39.95. A free webOS companion app needed to trigger and manage the sync is available in the Palm App Catalog. Future updates to The Missing Sync promise to bring Tasks and Notes synchronization to both PC and Mac users.
The Radeon HD 5870, as shipped, is a very powerful graphics card—more than most people need, even, and at the very least, enough for anyone. Except, apparently, Asus.
Asus’ plans for their newest Republic of Gamers (ROG) Radeon HD 5870-based card cater to a specific breed—the overclock-everything-for-the-sake-of-it PC tweakers, who are dwindling along with their gaming platform—but really, anyone can appreciate them: by default, the card’s GPU is cranked from 850 to 900MHz, and doubles the RAM to RAM to 2GB of DDR5 memory.
If that’s not enough, you can dial your frequencies up using included overclocking software, which saves new settings directly to the card. And if you start to notice that delicious, telltale smell of melting silicon, you don’t even have to navigate software to fix things: mashing a physical button on the back of the card reverts it to stock settings. Brilliant.
The ROG 5870 doesn’t have a price or North America release date yet, but word is it’s already hitting the streets in China, so full release details shouldn’t be far off. [Zol via Techreport via SlashGear]
These aren’t the first touchscreen laptops Toshiba’s dished out, but the U500-1EX is the latest, and has some nice specs (4GB of DDR3 RAM, 320GB HDD) for its low price.
At 13.3-inches, the Windows 7 machine has a neat-sounding LifeSpace app from Toshiba, which allows for thumbnail shortcuts on a bulletin board, and a faster way of searching for files with ReelTime.
Internally, it’s running on an Intel Core i3-330 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and has the option to upgrade the HDD to 320GB. Bluetooth, two USB ports, HD webcam and mic, the display is a TFT WXGA TruBrite with 1,280 x 800 pixels and altogether, it weighs 2.15kg.
Nothing but UK pricing has been confirmed, but if it’s £649 there, a direct conversion would have it at $1,014, but I doubt it’ll be that much in the States. [Toshiba release]
If you’ve been looking for a case mod that will strike fear into all the other computers you come across, well, look no further. But be careful, this guy gets cranky when he needs to defrag.
A lot of us subject our computers to quite a bit of abuse. We overcrowd their hard drives and overclock their processors. We bang on their keyboards. We smudge their screens. If you want a case mod that will keep you in line, this one, taking the form of Kratos, the main character from the God of War game series, will do just that.

Toshiba’s Portégé series has been gifted a new model, if leaks from Italy are anything to go by. It’s not a super light R600-type model, with the Portégé name also being applied to the convertible M range too.
The M780 is a 12.1-inch laptop with a 1200 x 800 TruBright LED backlit screen. Multitouch support with Windows 7 gestures means you can fold that laptop screen right back and use it like a tablet. Powered by either Core i3 or Core i5 processors, there’s 8GB of DDR3 memory and a choice of either a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD. Two USB ports, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, microphone, webcam and fingerprint scanner round the M780 off well. As Toshiba hasn’t confirmed it officially, this is still just hearsay, but knowing Toshiba’s history with the Portégé range, I wouldn’t expect the M780 to be on the friendly side of $3k. Microsoft’s last SideWinder keyboard had a neat parlor trick: It split in two. The X4 has a little less pow—its main feature is anti-ghosting for cheap, letting you press up to 26 keys at once for $60. [Microsoft]
Corsair’s Dominator GTX 2333MHz is the fastest RAM you can buy that’s Intel XMP-certified, at 2333MHz with latencies of 9-11-9-27. Each 2GB module is individually tested, in case you’re wondering why else it’s $200 a stick. [Hexus]
We’ve got some more details on Sony’s beefed-up VAIO Z series of laptops which were announced at CES, namely the addition of Quad SSD drives, Intel Core i7-620M processors and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M chips.
We already knew the two models would have a 13.1-inch LED backlit screen, an optical Blu-ray drive and HDMI-out, but new information is always appreciated. Made from carbon fibre and aluminum, the laptops weigh less than 1.45kg.
Going back to those Quad SSD drives, you’ll be capable of writing data in parallel on up to four SSDs at 6.2 times faster speeds than usual.
Two models are available for pre-ordering now, the VAIO VPCZ11Z9E and VAIO VPCZ11X9E. The main differences between the two are that the Z9E has a 2.66GHz chip but can handle an upgrade to 3.33GHz, has 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM and the Quad SSD has 256GB of storage. The 13.1-inch display is 1920 x 1080 and it weighs 1.43kg.
The X9E has a 2.4GHz chip with upgrades to 2.93GHz, and 4GB DDR3 SDRAM with 128GB Quad SSD. The 13.1-inch screen isn’t quite full HD, at 1600 x 900. It weighs a shade less than the Z9E, at 1.41kg.
Both VAIO Z models will be on sale at the end of March, with prices starting at around $1,000.
Way to go, semiconductor suppliers. Thanks to you, we’re all going to be paying more for our PCs going forward. Possibly a lot more.
The main culprits are D-Ram memory chips, which have seen a 23% price increase this year and make up 10% of a computer’s cost. The move from DDR2 to DDR3 is primarily what’s wreaking havoc. Memory’s not alone, though: while the overall cost of semiconductor components has declined by an average of 7.8% per year since 2000, the Financial Times reports that this year Gartner analysts expect them to go up 2.3%. LCD panels are also tapped for a 20% cost increase.
It remains to be seen how much of the cost is going to be passed along to consumers, but there’s no way that the component prices can increase this much and the end product can keep getting cheaper. It was a good ride while it lasted, but it’s almost time to pay the PC piper. [FT via Ars Technica]

Ezio este un tânar nobil care şi-a pierdut familia în luptele dintre celelalte familii rivale.
Jocul este amplasat în perioada Renaşterii în Italia în timpul Carnavalului Veneţian, în anul 1476. În primul joc acţiunea se petrecea în 1191, deci o diferenţă de 285 de ani. La fel ca în caracterele din Assassin’s Creed, figurile istorice vor fi prezente în joc, inclusiv Leonardo da Vinci, Machiavelli, Caterina Sforza, şi Lorenzo de’ Medici.

In terms of ports, it has a HDMI out, LAN, 4x USB, 3.5mm headphone jack, mic-in, and even a DVD slot on the front. Internally, it’s rocking an NVIDIA ION graphics chip, along with an Intel Atom processor, and in terms of video, it projects 1080p onto a 60-inch diagonal. The contrast ratio is 1000:1, and the lamp brightness is 100 lumens. It’s not as bright as a SIM2 special obviously, but MSI explained it’s somewhere between a pico projector and a home projector.
It’s just a concept for now, but MSI was pretty confident they’ll be able to get it to market in the third quarter of 2010. Look out for it then, if projecting Word documents is your usual style. [MSI]
Toshiba may’ve entered the netbook market later than most, but I was really impressed with their latest NB205 model. Adding to that range, the NB300 and NB305 have 11-hour battery lives and Intel’s new Pine Trail Atom chip.
That 11-hour life is thanks to the 6-cell battery, and the Atom N450 processor. At 10.1-inches in size, both netbooks have TruBrite LED displays with 1024 x 600 resolution, close to full keyboards, along with multitouch touchpads. Both models have 250GB HDD, run Windows 7 and has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and integrated stereo speakers. Two USB ports, plus one USB with Sleep-and-Charge which charges other gadgetry even when the netbook is turned off.
If you’re wondering what the main difference is between the two models, it’s all aesthetic. The NB305 comes in “mocha brown” and “snow white” with a matt cover and tiled keyboard, whereas the nB300 is in “cosmic black” with a glossy exterior and flat keyboard. On sale end of January. [Toshiba]
Amongst the deluge of mediocre CES product updates this week, let’s take a breather here with this eco-friendly Design Hara home theater PC. It comes in cypress and rose wood options, and the front cover is encased with sheep’s leather.
There are no details on just how much this’ll set you back, but doesn’t it look great pared with a set of Ferguson Hill speakers? Internally it’s running on an Intel Core 2 Duo chip, has 4GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD and has an integrated Blu-ray player. [Design Hara via Yanko Design]
So much for that May/June 2009 release date. ASUS has just confirmed that the Eee Keyboard PC, which wowed us at last year’s CES, will go on sale next month for something between $500 – $600.
That’s around the same price point we originally thought, but the delay is a bit ridiculous. Still, it’s an exciting new product from ASUS that I can’t wait to get my hands on. [PC Magazine]
If I had $1,000,000 I would buy 10,000 of these Marvell Plug Computer 3.0, with a 2GHz Armada 300 CPU, Wi-Fi, and Linux 2.6, and build myself a supercomputer. It’s either that or cocktails.
Sadly, it’s not oriented to consumers, but to the integration and development of new devices. So that’s it, fate has chosen for me. Cocktails it is.

Jocul îl urmăreşte pe Alan Wake, un scriitor de romane horror (bestsellere) care nu a reusit sa mai scrie ceva de doi ani…este în pană de idei. În încercarea de a rezolva problema lui Alan şi, prin urmare, situaţia financiară, soţia lui, Alice, îl duce în orăşelul idilic Bright Falls pentru a-şi “încărca bateriile”.
Cand ea insa dispare fara urma,Wake e parca prins intr-un cosmar fara sfirsit. Cuvant dupa cuvant,ultima lui carte,un thriller pe care nu isi aduce aminte sa-l fi scris,devine adevarat chiar in fata ochilor sai.Cumva stie ca e povestea lui,fara sa-si aduca aminte ca ar fi scris-o.
Povestea va fi prezentată sub formă de episoade, fiecare cu introducerea lui, şi fiecare cu un final care te lasă în suspans. Producătorii vor să creeze o atmosferă asemănătoare celei din Twin Peaks, citând serialul ca sursă principală de inspiraţie, alături de mai multe din cărţile lui Stephen King, care, nu de puţine ori, foloseşte autori de romane horror pe post de personaje principale.
Jocul se împarte în 2 secţiuni: pe timp de noapte şi pe timp de zi. Acum nu vă gândiţi că vor exista în joc numai momente cu lumină puternică sau întuneric complet, nicidecum, vom trece prin părţi ale oraşului în timpul apusului şi pe măsură ce se întunecă, lucrurile devin… mai interesante.

In acest far vezi pentru prima data numele unui oras fabulos: Rapture. Cobori in Rapture, orasul scufundat in care are loc actiunea jocului. In oras intalnesti diferite cladiri, fiecare cu scopul ei. Desi supravietuirea pe fundul oceanului ar trebui sa fie imposibila, iar orasul ar trebui sa fie pustiu, mai exista cativa supravietuitori. Intrebarea este: poti sa supravietuiesti? Da, ar trebui sa poti, asa cum a facut-o si persoana care te va indruma inca din primul moment in Rapture. Povestea jocului este completata si de relatarile locuitorilor, care pot fi aflate ascultand jurnalurile audio ale acestora. Astfel aflii ce s-a intamplat cu acest oras mirific, cum a ajuns in ocean.

6. God of War III

God of War III va continua povestea din momentul în care God of War II s-a terminat, cu Kratos alături de Titani în drum spre muntele Olimp. Cei care nu au jucat primele jocuri ar trebui să știe de rivalitatea care s-a născut între Kratos și Zeus la începutul lui God of War II, al treilea joc din serie fiind bazat pe ”vânarea” și înfrângerea zeilor rămași: Helios, Hermes, Hades și Zeus.
Jocul va avea un nivel de detaliu ridicat când vine vorba de lupte. Totul va fi mai violent, cu mai mult sânge, iar loviturile vor lăsa urme pe inamici. Noi mecanici de luptă au fost introduse în gameplay, de data aceasta fiind posibilă lupta cu până la 50 de inamici în același timp. Astfel au apărut unităţi de tip ”comandant” ce vor coordona soldatii de rând de pe front și le vor da un bonus de inteligență atât timp cât sunt în viață. De asemenea opțiunile în care Kratos poate să se debaraseze de inamici s-au înmulțit. Când un inamic este ”prins” de Kratos, acesta îl poate folosi împotriva celorlalți inamici, îl poate omorî pe loc sau chiar să îl folosească pe post de scut.
Inamicii mai mari pot fi acum folosiți pe post de ”vehicule”, iar lupta pe Titani pare să fie o mare parte a gameplay-ului din a treia parte God of War. Din trailerul lansat deja putem vedea cum Titanii pot afecta gameplay-ul, lumea prinzând verticalitate în momentul în care Kratos se află pe unul dintre ei, iar acesta începe să se miște.
Pe lângă noi abilități în luptă, Kratos va primi noi arme: Cestus, două mănusi imense în formă de capete de lei și un arc cu săgeți ce pot da foc inamicilor au fost anunțate, restul fiind ținute secret.

5. Halo Reach

Jocul urmareste actiunile echipei Noble,o trupa speciala a Comandamentului Spatial al Natiunilor Unite compusa din 6 supersoldati Spartani.Jucatorii isi vor asuma rolul locotenentului,un inlocuitor pentru un presupus membru mort al echipei Noble.Numele de cod al jucatorului va fi Noble Six.
Trailerul de la inceputul jocului ne arata cum planeta-colonie Reach (un important centru militar si minier din afara Sistemului solar al Comandamentului Spatial al Natiunilor Unite) este atacata de o forta de invazie extraterestra.

4. Mass Effect 2

La doi ani după ce Comandantul Shepard a oprit invazia Reapers, un nou inamic îşi face apariţia. La marginile universului “ceva” răpeşte întregi colonii umane. Acum Shepard trebuie să lucreze cu Cerberus, o organizaţie fără milă,(ce vrea ca rasa umană să supravieţuiască) pentru a opri cel mai mare pericol cu care s-a întâlnit omenirea.
El va trebui să adune cea mai puternică echipă din galaxie şi să preia comanda celei mai avansate nave construite vreodată. Chiar şi asa, i se spune că e o misiune din care nu se va întoarce. Shepard vrea să le dovedească contrariul.
Comandă o echipă de personaje uimitoare într-o misiune foarte periculoasă în colţurile universului.
Poţi importa salvările din primul joc Mass Effect pentru a continua povestea cu acel Comandant Shepard.
Te vei ascunde, vei da ordine şi vei utiliza peste 19 clase de arme, eliminându-ţi inamicii folosind un sistem de luptă nou şi îmbunătăţit.
Acum ai un nou sistem prin care poţi trage în puncte critice ale inamicilor, făcând membre să zboare şi capete să se rostogolească.
Vizitezi locaţii cunoscute precum Citadel şi vei merge în noi lumi pentru a salva omenirea.
Controlează conversaţia printr-un sistem îmbunătăţit de dialoguri unde poţi recurge chiar la intimidare şi violenţă fizică.

3. Final Fantasy XIII

Acest joc nu este un add-on, prequel sau sequel al vreunui joc din serie.
Intreaga poveste are la baza dorinta tuturor de a pune mana pe cristalele magice, un fel de inel al seriei Lord of the Rings. Protagonistul principal este un tanar print, ultimul supravietuitor al unei dinastii indelungate, care a stapanit si dezvoltat orasul pana in epoca moderna.
El este detinatorul ultimului Crystal, motiv pentru care se gaseste intr-un adevarat asediu. Regatul printului este mai dezvoltat din punct de vedere tehnologic decat lumea din jur, motiv pentru care se gaseste intr-un fel de auto-izolare. Cu ajutorul puterii cristalului, printul are posibilitatea sa controleze diferite arme fara sa le atinga si chiar sa se teleporteze pe distante scurte.
Final Fantasy XIII va avea o lume inchisa la culoare, fiind probabil jocul cu cel mai realistic decor din seria Final Fantasy. Jocul va folosi motorul grafic dezvoltat de Square Enix, initial numit White Engine si redenumit ulterior Crystal Tools.

2. StarCraft 2 : Wings of Liberty

Pentru a nu sacrifica nimic din potentialul epic al povestii din noul StarCraft, Blizzard a hotarat ca un singur joc nu este suficient pentru a dezvolta naratiunea, astfel incat StarCraft 2 Trilogy va fi compus din urmatoarele trei jocuri single-player distincte: 1. Terran : Wings of Liberty 2. Zerg : Heart of the Swarm 3. Protoss: Legacy of the Void Blizzard Entertainment a confirmat faptul ca fiecare dintre cele trei subcapitole ale lui StarCraft 2 va avea intre 26 si 30 de misiuni si un final bine definit.
Legiunile unităţilor de veterani, îmbunătăţite şi noi vor lupta în întreaga galaxie, fiecare fracţiune luptand pentru supravieţuire.
Wings of Liberty, va fi un joc neliniar, in care gamerii vor intra in rolul lui Jim Raynor, personaj binecunoscut din primul StarCraft. Cele trei rase din jocul original: Protosii, Terranii si Zergii vor reveni, nefiind adaugate altele noi.
La fel ca predecesorul, vor fi folosite scene cinematice intre nivele, pentru a continua firul epic al jocului. Imbunatatiri semnificative au fost aduse atat detaliilor legate de teren, cat si detaliilor legate de unitati si structuri. Povestea din Starcraft 2 are loc la patru ani dupa StarCraft: Brood War si aduce inapoi o serie de eroi precum Zeratul, Arcturus Mengsk, Artanis, Sarah Kerrigan sau Jim Raynor. Un editor complex pentru crearea campaniilor va fi inclus in joc, pentru a se realiza harti si moduri de joc personalizate. Unitatile care au fost scose din Starcraft I, vor putea fi introduse cu ajutorul editorului.
StarCraft II oferă o campanie in jocul de single unica , care preia povestea pe care a lăsat-o StarCraft: Brood War, şi prezintă o selecţie de eroi noi şi feţe cunoscute într-o frenetice-poveste de science fiction umpluta cu aventură şi intrigi. În plus, Blizzard va oferi din nou posibilitatea de a efectua jocuri de reţea unică prin Battle.net, serviciul online de jocuri renumit pentru companie, împreună cu unele îmbunătăţiri şi noi opţiuni pentru a face StarCraft un joc competitiv de strategie in timp real.

Mafia 2 o sa aibe o noua grafica, un nou motor, condusul masiniilor o sa fie mult mai usor si un story nou.
In Mafia 2 povestea o sa se petreaca pe parcursul a 10 ani, din 1940 – 1950, astfel o sa avem arme mai bune si masini mai rapide. In timp ce in 1920 masiniile nu puteau depasi viteza de 50 de km/h, in 1940-1950 avem deja masiniile muscle car si cele de curse.
Jocul o sa aibe un mod mai real de a te “lua la tranta cu legea”, astfel poti scapa mult mai usor de politisti daca nu respecti regulile de circulatie, politistul obosind, dar daca incepi sa omori oameni pe strada politistul o sa cheme intariri.
Povestea din Mafia 2 il are in centru pe Vito, fiul unui imigrant italian sarac. Tanarul incearca sa isi indeplineasca Visul American si primul pas pe care il face in aceasta directie este implicarea in Mafie, un univers care il atrage cu promisiuni de putere si bogatie. Vito il va avea alaturi pe Joe, prietenul sau din copilarie, si impreuna vor incerca sa “isi faca un renume pe strazile orasului rece si necrutator”,
Mafia 2 promite o experienta de joc la nivelul unui excelent film cu gangsteri, gameplay plin de actiune, posibilitatea de a trece din mediul exterior in interioare detaliate fara timpi de incarcare, o poveste palpitanta creata de autorul scenariului din Mafia I si muzica autentica ce va contribui la senzatia ca jucatorul “traieste” in America anilor 1950.
