Sierra Club Green Home’s Director of Sustainability Jennifer Schwab has some great tips for going green on a budget this spring. Since it sometimes seems that being eco-friendly is expensive, it is really nice to see some tips that cost less than $40. In fact, some are completely free, but I’ve simply never thought of them. Here are a few of my favorite ideas from Sierra Club Green Home:
Use a Bathroom Fan – ensure your bathroom fan is turned on for 20 minutes AFTER your shower to avoid mold build up (and be sure your fan’s wattage is equivalent to your bathroom’s square footage!)
I knew that bathroom fans were important, but I wasn’t running mine long enough after anyone showered. I was going with about five minutes, which is only a quarter of the time I needed.
Install Low-Flow Water Fixture ($29.90) – faucets account for more than 15 percent of a typical household’s indoor water use and showers 17 percent. That adds up to more than 2.2 trillion gallons of water in the United States every year. Cutting that by 40 percent by installing low-flow fixtures— available at Home Depot for only $29.90—would save 880 billion gallons of water…every year.
I don’t know what your area is like, but around here, every town is raising water and sewage rates. Some of them are doubling and tripling rates. That means that this isn’t only a green idea. It is also a money saving one.
Open the Window – when using a gas stove in order to ensure you and your family aren’t breathing harmful fumes. Our ovens and cooktops article tells more.
You know, I cook with propane all the time and don’t open my window. I plan to start though. It makes sense to get some fresh air in when you’re using gas.
Take Your Shoes Off before entering the home so pesticides aren’t brought inside.
Taking off shoes as soon as you come in the back door is mandatory at my house because I don’t want to spend two hours hunting for someone’s sneakers. Now I have a second reason for my rule!
Update Spring Colors with Low-VOC Paints ($35) – maintain indoor air quality by eliminating harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by paints, carpets, and furniture. Glidden low-VOC paint is available for about $35.

P.S. Ah, it financially sucks to run newspapers in their traditional forms these days. Now, running them as an online news source plus mini video TV stations may be an interesting play.

Either IWMOPS (I Want My One Point Six) are some of the most persuasive and influential people I know or Rogers is one of the nicest, most customer-oriented wireless providers (Oh, that was weird, did I just use “nice” and “mobile company” in the same sentence?). The title of this article says it like it is, Rogers HTC Dream owners will have the choice of exchanging for an HTC Magic.
What sparked this decision by Rogers is that my previous article regarding IWMOPS explained what updates each of the latter HTC devices would be receiving. In short the HTC Magic will be receiving Android 2.1 software and the HTC Dream would be getting nothing due to hardware constraints. Again IWMOPS complained and asked for a resolve and what they got was the decision to switch devices to the HTC Magic. Although many will not take the offer because the main feature separating the two devices is the Dream’s physical keyboard, which for some is a must-have. The official quoted statement is as follows (@RogersMary):
It’s great to hear that everyone is pleased by HTC’s agreement to upgrade Magic to 2.1. We pushed hard on your behalf and are pleased with that part. When it comes to Dream, we share in your frustration that the device does not have the required on-board memory for an upgrade. We’ve reviewed this internally and believe that Dream users should be able to have the same HTC Android experience as those who purchased the Magic. So, we are offering our HTC Dream customers a limited time opportunity to upgrade from their current HTC Dream device to the HTC Magic.
We’re working on finalizing the details of that promotion now but wanted to let you know the great news as soon as possible. Please be patient as this is not yet available in-store, online or through customer care. I will be back next week to provide you with more information.

HTC Magic owners disappointed by Rogers’ announcement that the Dream was going to stay at Android 1.5 may have cause to rejoice. A post from a Rogers rep over at Android forums claims that Rogers is putting together a promotion that will provide current Dream owners a limited time opportunity to upgrade to the HTC Magic. We popped over to Sling Media’s booth here at CES and took the new Sling Touch Control 100 for a spin. Overall, it’s pretty impressive and nifty, albeit a bit large, but the big, vivid screen makes up for it. Now, instead of picking up your heavy arm, grabbing the remote control and pushing all those buttons, you can set this thing down beside you and navigate your DVR or Blu-ray player over your wireless network with just the touch of a finger. The layout and set-up is very similar to what you’d see online for navigating content, so it’s quite intuitive. Though most rumors as of late concern an Apple-designed tablet to be revealed later this month, the next version of the iPhone is getting its share of buzz as well. On top of a rumored CDMA version popping up on the Verizon network, here are additional details that we have caught up with recently.
We have already seen some evidence that Apple might bump the iPhone’s camera up to five megapixels, but there is also evidence to suggest the company may add an LED “flash” to improve its low-light picture-taking abilities. Sources for AppleInsider suggest that Apple is currently seeking a supplier for “tens of millions” of LEDs, with Philips’ LUXEON LED supposedly leading the pack of possibilities. The LED “flashes” used in mobile phones are actually constant light sources, so they could be used for shooting low-light videos too.
Imagination Technologies, the company that develops the PowerVR graphics processors used in the iPhone, has also announced an improved SGX545 graphics processor core. It’s compatible with OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics API, as well as OpenGL 3.2 and even OpenCL. The processor core is designed to be used in multi-core applications for even more of a kick, but would likely only appear as a single core in iPhone applications for better battery life. Imagination says that the tech is already “licensed by a lead partner,” and Apple’s investment in the company certainly qualifies it as one of those partners.
Finally, The iPhone Blog reports that buzz around the CES show floor is that Apple plans to add some form of limited multitasking to the next version of the iPhone. The details are naturally non-specific, though Apple has cited battery life and user complexity for not allowing multiple third-party apps to run simultaneously. Apple may include a PA Semi-designed, low-power ARM Cortex A9 processor in the next iPhone, which would negate the extra battery drain and keep performance at acceptable levels.
Next-gen iPhone hardware may make an appearance at the event supposedly focused on “mobile” devices that is expected later this month. However, if recent history is a guide, we won’t see the new hardware unveiled until shortly before its release this summer.

Todo apunta que el modelo montará un V12 de 6 litros con una potencia en torno a 700CV. El motor tiene un régimen de vueltas elevadísimo, unas 9.000 rpm, lo que le permitirá acelerar de 0 a 100 Km/h en menos de 3,2 segundos.
Exteriormente se cree que será un descendiente del 250 GTO o del 288 GTO. Según la revista EVO, Gran Bretaña recibirá unos 50 coches con un precio de 300.000 libras cada uno y que su entrega se realizaría en Mayo de este año.

Because even if the suggestions are automatically generated based on a proprietary algorithm someone could get killed for suggesting that “Islam is Bullshit”. Which is pretty good motivation for overriding the system.
Google this. Type this in Google “Christianity is…” and see what Google will suggest. It will suggest as the first option this: Christianity is Bullshit. Try it.
Now try “Islam is…” What does Google say? Nothing. There is no suggestion at all. What is this Google? Why is there “Christianity is Bullshit” but no “Islam is bullshit” in your search engine?

There is still substantial buzz surrounding this week’s launch of Google’s Android-based phone, the Nexus One, which Om has found to be the best Android phone on the market to date. And Andy Rubin, VP of engineering at Google, weighed in on Google’s strategy, making clear that — among other things — more Google phones from various manufacturers are on the way. We also took note this week of the potential disruption that could come from Google’s web store, which is targeted to put Android-based superphones and more in users’ hands. In addition, we noted comments from Google Open Source Program Manager Chris DiBona as to how the company intends to preserve a level playing field (which may not be perfectly level) for phone manufacturers and Android app developers.
Of course, Android was all over this week’s CES show in Las Vegas, evidence of the ongoing Androidification of everything. There were Android tablet devices from Dell, Motorola and others, found in a variety of form factors. MIPS also showed an Android-based set-top box, one of several types of consumer electronics devices that the company wants developed around the OS. MIPS is joined on the Android bandwagon by fellow chip company ARM, semiconductor design firms like Aricent and Mentor Graphics, and others. Meanwhile Freescale Semiconductor is working on an Android-based netbook design, and HP and Qualcomm showcased an Android netbook.
Among Android-based phones at the CES show, Motorola got a lot of attention with its Backflip QWERTY-keyboard-based Android phone. You can actually navigate the phone with a finger on the backside. Taps and double-taps are supported, as is mouse-pad style navigation. AT&T also made waves at CES, when it announced that it will support five Android handsets this year.
The Android action at CES made clear that the operating system is moving beyond just phones, and is having a widespread impact on handset makers, carriers and developers. It’s hard to believe that only nine months ago, Android seemed completely stalled.
