  • Broadcom Company Enables Android To Run On Advanced Navigation Processor!

Broadcom Company, a global leader in wired and wireless communications, announced at the 2010 CES Wednesday that they have successfully ported Android to run on the company’s advanced navigation processor (the Broadcom® BCM4760).  The advanced processor integrates bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and provides a single-chip solution, minimizes footprint size, and extends battery.

According to Broadcom, “this will allow for a new generation of location-aware mobile internet devices (MIDs) and personal navigation devices (PNDs) which will be attractive to both developers, as well as users.”  What does this mean for Android fans in the future?  Essentially, that mapping, navigation, and location based application will be better and more tightly integrated with both bluetooth and Wi-Fi. EXCITING!

  • CAN 2016 : Le Maroc candidat

Je comprends pas pourquoi un thred "natioanl soccer" est ouvert alors que le thread "atlas lions" est stické en haut de page. :dunno:

CAN 2016 : Le Maroc candidat

Kate’s eight children are her top priority though, “I’ve got to get my kids back on track, my career back on track and my family back on track,” she said.

Kate said the kids are “really struggling” with their father Jon Gosselin being gone.

“They start counseling in the next two weeks,” she said. “I’m definitely seeing signs that it’s a major need at this point.”

Kate is looking forward to a fresh start in 2010.

“Short hair was easy,” she tells People, in the issue out Friday. “I could shower in less than three minutes.” What wasn’t easy was the 20 hours celeb hairstylist Ted Gibson spent giving Gosselin the blond hair extensions. With her new hair comes a new name, she jokes: “It’s hyphenated. I am now Kate Clean-Slate.”

Yet her extreme makeover evidently doesn’t include avoiding the media limelight. In Kate’s world, changing your hair doesn’t mean you change your approach.

She’s here to stay, people. What do you think?
New love: “I’m not going to rule it out… But right now it’s not my focus. Being alone at the end of every day, I’m not liking that — it’s been a long time, and I feel that loneliness. But I’m not going to go running in the direction of finding someone.”

Her kids in counseling: “I’ve got to get my kids back on track, my career back on track and my family back on track… They start counseling in the next two weeks. I’m definitely seeing signs that it’s a major need at this point.”

On her debt: “I have a lot of debt to crawl out of. Debt that shouldn’t be there. I have a lot of anger about that. But it’s nothing that good, hard work won’t fix.”

  • 2010 Hurt me Mor Ski Trip – It’s Show Time

    hm

This is the legendary biggest baddest mortgage banker skitrip ever –  read on – BC

Hello Boys and Girls – It’s Show Time,

Bad Santa here – and I have been checking the only list that matters – particularly, if you plan to join us for some skiing in Utah during arguably one of the best winters in recent decades.  And sorry for those fans of his, but we have not invited Al Gore who has proven to be one of the better contra-indicators for Global Warming.  How can we make that statement?  2/3rds of the country is presently ensconced in ice and Utah in powder.  We can debate all that later…

There are only 56 days until first tracks on Wednesday the 3rd of March.  Sadly for many of you, there are only 23 shopping days left to commit to this year’s trip.  Fortunately many of you made the right decision weeks ago to come to Hurt Me Mor, when the Asset Securitization Forum decided to punt on Las Vegas for 2010 in favor of Washington, DC (actually PG County for the DC locals).  Trust us, DC is no Vegas any time of the year, especially the first week of February.  At this time of year, there are not a lot of tee times at Congressional and it’s still at least 3 hours to find any good skiing.

Back to Bad Santa – Jeff and I need to know ASAP if you are coming, and by letting us know, you will need to follow with a check or call to Credit Card Dave, lest you be reading the Après Ski Trip newsletter in April.  We have attached the invite just in case, you nuked your original transmission in early December.  Before pushing your permanently delete email option, PLEASE call us or send us an e-mail to let us know whether you are coming or not.  Then forward the necessary $$$’s to either Dave or Jeff at the below addresses.

The next notification will be coming from your old friends Dwayne and Guido.  They have an entirely different perspective towards ‘Combat Servicing’

Dave and Jeff      click here for contact information  or look below for details.

Before that, Chen served as news anchor of The Early Show and anchor of the CBS Morning News, the CBS Television Network’s early-morning broadcast, since Nov. 1, 1999, when The Early Show debuted under that title.

I should also mention that Julie is not only a busy journalist and producer, but she’s also a new mom! Julie and husband Leslie Moonves (president and CEO of CBS Television) had their first child, Charlie, in September.

    Congrats, Julie and happy birthday!

Julie Chen, who is co-host on “The Early Show” (7 a.m. weekdays on CBS), turns 40 today.
She also hosts the CBS reality series “Big Brother” (Season 12 starts in summer). And she spent a day working at a yogurt shop for the new CBS special “I Get That A Lot” premiering at 7 p.m. today (Jan. 6) on CBS.
Her first TV apperance was as an anchor on “The CBS Morning News” (1987). She was 32.
Best wishes to Julie and everybody who shares this special day with her.

  • Steve Ballmer’s Microsoft CES Keynote: Everything He’s Going to Say (LIVE) [Microsoft]

Microsoft big boss Steve Ballmer is just now taking the stage here in Las Vegas to kick off CES 2010. What’s he gonna do and say? Here, I’ll tell you. UPDATING THROUGH THE KEYNOTE

Update: The keynote began with a testimony on the benefits of technology from SNL’s Seth Myers. He thanks technology for all of the wondrous humiliations he can now participate in, such as worldwide publication of Halloween images, buying tobacco-store Indians on eBay, and having his grandma tell him he looks too fat or too thin from 1200 miles away.

    Seth Myers as drunken smurf:

Says Ballmer: “We Bing and we Bing and we Bing. Bing! Bing! Bing!”

Steve doesn’t have a whole lot of breaking news today. The company has already confirmed that the Xbox 360 motion-sensing technology codenamed Natal would be available in time for the holidays. Also, that that sexy Windows Phone the HTC HD2 will be coming to the US, via T-Mobile, sometime this spring.

He does have one trick up his sleeve, one that people have been buzzing about. But mostly, Steve and Robbie Bach, the head of the Entertainment & Devices division, will be talking about 2009.

And why not? 2009 was the year of Microsoft, and Ballmer & Bach are going to confirm it with facts from NPD and others, citing for instance that Windows 7 boosted PC sales in a huge way, with 50% growth over the previous holiday sales season. (Ballmer won’t get too detailed though, as the real numbers are set to come out during their quarterly earnings report on January 28.)

They will brag about how awesome Xbox is, how in its 10 year existence, it has accounted for $20 billion in retail sales (games and hardware) and accrued 39 million Xbox Live members worldwide.

Ballmer will say that Bing, with 11 million users, is already a success (though there’s no market share data to speak of yet), and that HP will use it as the default search engine and homepage on browsers in systems shipping in 42 countries.

They will talk about Ford Sync, and a new in-car experience they’ve developed with Kia. The 2011 Kia Sorrento will feature a service like Sync, called UVO. It may not look like Sync, but it will be similarly functional.

Finally, Steve will show off a bunch of sweet Windows 7 machines, many we’ve already seen, such as the Sony Vaio L touchscreen all-in-one, the Lenovo A300 and the Asus NX90.

Update: They were going to show off a TV with a PC built in, but the technical difficulties that delayed the show apparently screwed up the computer. To quote Steve: “It blew the tube.” Didn’t know they had tubes, but I get the picture. There it is, lurking in the back:

At some point during the hardware fondling, he’s going to hold aloft a pretty sweet “slate” device from HP. This is not speculation, it is confirmed. It’s not the Courier of bloggy lore. But it is a product with great battery life and a Windows 7 touch experience, not a prototype but a product that Microsoft says HP will be releasing. [Microsoft]

  • Cosmetic Surgeons Use Chin And Cheek Implants To Create A Greater Balance In One’s Face

The insertion of a chin implant into one’s chin may take anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. During this surgery, the plastic surgeon will select the proper shape and size of implant to properly enhance your appearance. He or she will then proceed to insert the implant into a pocket that has been created over the front of the jawbone. The tiny incision that is used to create the implant pocket and to insert the implant is usually placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under one’s chin area.

  • Eyes On With Ray Kurzweil’s Blio Ereader App [EReaders]

If you’ve caught a good whiff of CES, you know it smells like tablets. And if you’re up on tablets, you know they’re supposed to save print, or something. And this, the Blio ereader software, is part of the plan.

Designed and conceptualized in part by futurist/engineer/inventor Ray Kurzweil, Blio diverges from traditional ereaders in a couple of ways: first, it’s software, intended to be loaded on a variety of devices, from tablets to iPhones to laptops; and second, it’s full-color, animated and interactive. It contains web content, video and audio embeds. It can render in a variety of ways, all of which are smoothly animated.

On both PC and iPhone, the rendering is smooth—with colorful books, like reference texts, the effect is impressive, with interactive diagrams, video and clickable text. (Though you’d be right to point out that this kind of tech already exists, and it’s called the internet.) Outside of highly visual books, magazine and newspaper are an obvious use for this thing, and though those partnerships haven’t been solidified yet, they’re coming. The iPhone app was good by iPhone ebook reader standard, but the full-page image-and-text rendering felt like a gimmick on a small screen—most of the time you’ll end up reflowing the raw text on your phone, a la the Kindle app.

But Blio the app is only part of the story—the store that its tied to is what really matters. Backed by Baker and Taylor, the world’s largest book distributor, Blio plans to launch with over a million titles; a couple hundred thousand will be newer/paid titles, while the rest will be public domain material. It’s DRMed like any other ebook store at the moment, and like the Kindle Store, can sync your purchased content—including your position in a given book—from device to device. There’s plenty of oomph behind the project, and with a few good devices—tablets, basically—I could see it working out.

That said, I’m worried about how complicated platform is, especially since there’s DRM involved. Publishers set the price, and they can sell multiple editions of the same book with different “features”: one might have an audio track or special text-to-speech voices, while another could be plain text. I can’t imagine modular ebooks taking off. And, weirdly, publishers will be embed to include content from outside the text, meaning that for some books, an active internet connection might be required to get the full experience. Score one for the awkward HTML comparison, score 0 for being sure that you can read the content you thought you purchased. But these are minor concerns.

Point is, you’re going to have to read books on your tablet in something, and it wouldn’t be a terrible thing if that something was Blio. The app will be available for PC and iPhone come late January/early February, and it will be free.

On another note, if you’re wondering why Ray Kurzweil’s involvement is a big deal, well, ask Joel Johnson, who filmed the above video:

  • Staples Solar Roof in Maryland

Staples installs solar photovoltaic power on the roof of its Hanover, Maryland facility with help from SunEdison. …

… “largest single rooftop solar power installation in Maryland at Staples’ 200,200 square foot fulfillment center in Hanover. The 1.01 megawatt solar installation covers nearly 175,000 square feet of roof space, larger than three football fields. The environmental savings associated with the system will offset more than 43 million pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) over 20 years, equivalent to removing CO2 produced by more than 4,200 automobiles driving 12,000 miles per year. The zero-emission, silent photovoltaic system will generate approximately 1.2 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year, and 21 million kWh during the initial 20 years of the project. ” …

  • Tysabri’s PML Count Climbs to 28, and Some Reflections From Biogen Idec’s Departing CEO

    mullen
    Luke Timmerman wrote:

At least one more patient has been diagnosed with a rare, and potentially fatal brain infection after taking natalizumab (Tysabri), the hit drug for multiple sclerosis from Biogen Idec and Elan, according to Biogen CEO James Mullen.

There are now 28 confirmed cases of patients with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) as of the last count in mid-December. That’s one more case than I counted in a detailed summary of PML risk that we published on November 19. Mullen made his remarks in front of a group of investors today at a Goldman Sachs conference titled “Healthcare CEOs Unscripted: A View From the Top.”

Mullen talked about the hit drug’s difficult history with PML as part of a wide-ranging and candid conversation with Goldman analyst May-Kin Ho in New York. These were the first public remarks Mullen, 51, has made since the Cambridge, MA-based company (NASDAQ: BIIB) announced this week he is stepping down in June as CEO, after a decade at the helm. He offered his thoughts on how to mitigate the risk for multiple sclerosis patients, his reflections on what worked and what didn’t in the 2003 merger with San Diego-based Idec Pharmaceuticals, and how the industry needs to change its ways to keep innovation alive. Here are the highlights that I picked up from the webcast.

On how Biogen Idec plans to keep doctors, patients, and investors informed about PML risk:

Biogen Idec says it plans to offer monthly updates to physicians about the latest statistics on PML cases, and infection rates. It will also staff a hotline for physicians who want to gather detailed, updated information and context from the company’s medical staff. The company plans to lay out the numbers in a more detailed fashion, with rates on incidence of infection, numbers showing how long certain groups of patients have been on the drug, combined with data on how many total patients are receiving treatment. “That’s the best way for people to visualize what’s going on,” Mullen says.

“The whole communications strategy around that has been challenging,” Mullen said. “We’ve gotten lots of feedback. Pretty much whatever we’ve done, someone won’t like it.”

On why he’s leaving the company in June:

Mullen noted that the Tysabri risk-management situation has stabilized during the past year. A new patent that lasts until 2026 has extended the lifespan of pegylated interferon beta (Avonex) which may help it fend off cheaper “follow-on” biologic competitors. And the product pipeline looks encouraging as well, he said.

“There are a lot of good prospects out there for Tysabri, and there aren’t, if you will, a lot of huge, thorny issues to be wrestled to the ground here in the short term. It’s a good time for a transition.”

From a personal perspective, he added: “If you’re going to have a mid-life crisis, you can do one of two or three things, right? Sports cars I’m too big for. Mistresses are not approved at home. Maybe a career change is what’s in order. I decided to go with Number 3. I think it’s a good time, for, you know, a transition. We’ve also got a new chairman with Bill Young. We’ve got some new board members. We’ll have a few more new board members. It’s a good time for people to sort of re-think …Next Page »
