  • Doors for employees

In the new paint shop of Putzmeister Concrete Pumps GmbH, transparent high-speed doors provide optimum working conditions

It looks modern and has an interesting architecture, the façade of the new paint shop of Putzmeister in Aichtal. It is dominated by 17 transparent high-speed turbo doors of the door specialist Efaflex from Bruckberg. The employees work in the hall as if they were outside, but protected from wind and weather. “People are used to work in sun light and cannot live without the close relation to their environment”, says Georg Metzner. He is responsible for purchasing building work, plants and machinery for Putzmeister in Aichtal. 16 of the 17 high-speed doors are identical. Apart from the three lower laths, all doors are made up of 225 mm wide, clear laths of acrylic glass. “Thus, our employees are always able to see whether the sun is shining outside or whether it is raining.

The doors look elegant and are nevertheless burglar-proof and stable. They convey the works a constant and uniform look. Switching to one single door manufacturer step-by-step also brings another important aspect for the responsible persons. They only have one single contact partner when it comes to maintenance and repair and this contact partner knows the works very well. A worldwide service agreement with Efaflex guarantees that ever door is ready for operation again within 48 hours. However: There have not been any major damages anymore since we have installed the new doors, says Georg Metzner. “Efaflex doors are simply so fast that they are never in the way.”

  • NET SAFETY MONITORING UV/IR FLAME DETECTOR RECEIVES SIL2 QUALIFICATION

  • New generation of FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL® series

The newest generation of the proven FISCHER XDL® spectrometers is now available. They replace the well established FISCHERSCOPE® X-RAY XDL®-B spectrometers.

The FISCHERSCOPE®-X-RAY XDL® instruments are universally applicable energy-dispersive x-ray spectrometers. They represent the next step in the development of the proven FISCHERSCOPE X-RAY XDL® model series. Like their predecessors, they are particularly well suited for non-destructive thickness measurements and analysis of thin coatings, for measurements on mass-produced parts and pc-boards as well as for the solution analysis.

A high count rate is achieved by using a proportional counter tube, which allows for precise measurements. Using the Fischer fundamental parameter method, coating systems as well as solid and liquid samples can be analyzed standard-free. It is possible to detect up to 24 elements in the range from chlorine (17) to uranium (92) simultaneously.
The XDL® x-ray spectrometers have an excellent long-term stability, which among other things is reflected in a significantly reduced calibration effort.

The instruments of the XDL® series are especially well suited for measurements in quality assurance, reception inspection and production monitoring.

    Typical areas of application are:
    •Measurement of electro-plated mass-produced parts
    •Inspection of thin coatings, e.g., decorative chromium-plating
•Analysis of functional coatings in the electronics and semiconductor industries
    •Automated measurements, e.g., on pc-boards
    •Solution analysis in the electroplating

The new instruments are now available at all FISCHER offices.

  • ATiCS, the new All-in-one changeover and monitoring device

Stringent requirements are imposed as regards the reliability of power supplies for medical locations. The standard IEC 60364-7-710 / DIN VDE 0100-710 provides the basis for this application. This standard requires that power be supplied by two independent sources and the application of an unearthed power supply system (IT system) with insulation monitoring for Group 2 locations.

The new changeover and monitoring devices of the ATiCS710 series are the ideal solution for this task. For the first time, it has been possible to accommodate both the switching elements and the electronics together in an extremely flat, compact enclosure. The modules utilise a new safety concept that corresponds to SIL2 (Functional safety according to IEC 61508). The patented switching technology integrated in the power section ensures reliable changeover by mechanical and electrical interlocking and also high dynamic strength of the contacts. The insulation, load and temperature monitoring module accurately checks/controls the IT system and reports variations at an early stage. Furthermore, a test current generator allows the integration with an earth fault location system. Operating status and alarm messages are transmitted to alarm and indicator units or SCADA systems via a bus system.

Additionally, the trend-setting integrated ATiCS concept provides essential features, such as automatic/manual operation, history memory for events, reminder for periodic tests, and a programmable digital input resp, relay output. The ATiCS-device is designed to be connected completely by plugging in. That means that service work can be easily performed during operation.

The ATiCS710 changeover and monitoring devices are available for nominal currents up to 125 A with a variable changeover period of t < 0.3 ... 20 s. For safety-relevant applications in 1- and 3-phase power supply systems, we offer devices of the ATiCS700 series up to 160 A. The two ATiCS variants are suitable for DIN rail mounting or screw mounting.

  • 2010 Nissan 370Z Black Edition

    PRESS RELEASE

    370Z: BACK TO BLACK

Just over 40 years ago a motoring icon was born. As the sixties moved into the 1970s, the Datsun 240Z was launched on the US market. American drivers instantly fell in love with the car and sales in that one market alone regularly topped 50,000 units annually. The Z legend had begun.

Now four decades, six generations and well over a million cars later, Nissan is introducing a special celebratory version of the newest two-seater to wear the famous Z badge – the 370Z.

The 370Z Black Edition marks the 40th anniversary in style. Available from April as a coupé only, and in a limited edition run of just 370 units in Europe, it comes in two distinctive metallic shades: black and quartz. Both paints use Nissan’s pioneering Scratch Shield technology, ‘healing’ the finish in the case of stone chip damage.

    Attachment 283468

Inside the 370Z Black edition there are:

    • Unique red leather & suede appointed interior (seats & door trim) with embossed 40th Anniversary logo seats
    • Smooth leather wrapped steering wheel with red stitching
    • Red stitching on the centre cluster, centre console and knee pads
    • Nissan’s Connect Premium state-of-the-art combined touch-screen satellite navigation and audio system with USB connectivity

    Attachment 283470

The exterior of the 370Z Black can be identified thanks to:

    • Dark grey 19" aluminium forged RAYS wheels
    • Eye-catching red brake callipers
    • 40th Anniversary emblem on the back door

    Attachment 283471

Standard specification means it already has a bespoke BOSE premium audio system, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, Stop/Start button with Nissan’s Intelligent Key and a sporting six speed manual transmission with unique Synchro Rev Control technology. The electronically controlled rev matching system ensures perfect ‘heel and toe’ gear changes every time. A seven-speed automatic version with column-mounted paddle shifts is available as an option.

The Black Edition comes as standard with Nissan’s next generation combined audio and navigation system, offering improved ease-of-operation, new and updated features.

At its heart is a high performance Hard Disk Drive (HDD) navigation system that offers customer audio storage capacity of 9.3GB.

    Attachment 283463
    Attachment 283467

Among the many benefits are vastly extended mapping which now includes Turkey, Eastern Europe and Russia, as well as a new easy to follow 3D navigation guidance with improved graphics and a more realistic depiction of the road and landmarks ahead for many of Europe’s principle cities. The resolution of the new 7 inch screen is up to four times better than the previous generation system.

Real time traffic information is supplied via RDS-TMC, but quicker operation allows the system to offer re-routing in a fraction of the time.

The new generation system uses a touch-screen interface, maximising both ease of use and safety not only for the navigation, but also for other functions such as Bluetooth phone connectivity and entertainment. It is also possible to operate the system using voice recognition.

On-screen instructions can be displayed in eight different languages including English, French, German, Spanish and Italian – while voice recognition is supported in seven – English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

    Attachment 283464
    Attachment 283465

The new generation navigation system also allows USB connectivity for portable audio devices. Furthermore, DVDs can be played on the centrally mounted navigation screen (when the car is stationary), while external audio and video devices can be connected via the VTR connections that are found in the central storage box.

In terms of its mechanical specification, the Black Edition matches the standard 370Z. That means a 3.7-litre 24-valve twin cam V6 developing 328PS and a limited top speed of 155mph and a 0-62 mph time of 5.3 seconds (5.6 seconds for the automatic version). The 2010 model year update means the 370Z is now fully compliant with forthcoming Euro 5 emission legislation.

Exemplary levels of handling and grip are assured by the focused rear-wheel drive chassis which features fully independent suspension, powerful upgraded brakes and precise speed sensitive power steering.

Since its launch in June 2009, more than 1,050 examples of the 370Z have been sold across Europe, an exceptional achievement for a niche product in extremely challenging market conditions. The car’s largest market to date has been the UK, followed by France and Germany.

    Attachment 283466

"The ‘story of Z’ is full of positives, with success not just in the sales charts all over the world but on racetracks and at award ceremonies, too. The 370Z Black Edition is a fitting tribute to a great car," said Vincent Wijnen, Nissan’s European Vice President for Marketing.

Customers can order the 370Z Black Edition from all Nissan High Performance Centres and throughout the dealer network with deliveries starting in April.

Prices start from – £33,645 for the manual and £35,045 for the automatic transmission (prices include £750 showroom tax which comes into effect on 1 April 2010).

  • What Were The “Sensitive Issues” Tim Geithner Discussed With Japanese Finance Minister Naoto Kan?

tim geithner small hands pinch APInteresting report from Japan Times:

Finance Minister Naoto Kan said Friday he discussed a range of “sensitive issues” with U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner ahead of a meeting of the Group of Seven industrial powers.

But Kan told reporters he was asked by Geithner not to disclose the details of their talks, though noting that Japan and the United States shared views that the two countries face “sort of similar difficulties” in rebuilding economic growth and public finances.

Apparently one of the subjects discussed, according to the article, was financial regulation, which makes sense.

We also have to wonder whether Geithner is nervous about Japan’s gigantic pile of Treasuries, and what the aging, debt-laden nation plans to do with them going forward.

  • The Greek Crisis Spurs A Global Margin Call As Confidence Ebbs

    From The Telegraph:

Flow data shows an abrupt withdrawal of German and Asian capital from Club Med debt markets. The EU’s refusal to offer Greece anything beyond stern words and a one-month deadline for harsher austerity – while admirable in one sense – is to misjudge how fast confidence is ebbing. Greece’s drama has already metastasised into a wider systemic crisis. The world risks a replay of the Lehman collapse if this runs unchecked, this time involving sovereign dominoes.

Barclays Capital says the net external liabilities of Greece are 87pc of GDP, or €208bn (£182bn). Spain is worse at 91pc (€950bn), and Portugal worse yet at 108pc (€177bn); Ireland is 68pc (€123bn), Italy is 23pc, (€347bn). Add East Europe’s bubble and foreign debts top €2 trillion.

    Nissan 370Z Black Edition

2010 Nissan 370Z Black Edition – Click above for high-res image gallery

It’s been a couple of months since Nissan first announced a special 40th anniversary model of its svelte 370Z, and, following a batch of spy shots confirming the car’s arrival, we’re about to get our first up-close-and-personal look at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. But Nissan isn’t about to let American customers have all the fun, so it’s releasing a similar special edition for the European market.

Like its American counterpart, the Europe’s 370Z Black Edition celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Nissan Z, and packs most of the same features that distinguish its Yankee brother. That means darkened 19-inch Rays wheels, red brake calipers, red leather interior with a red-stitched steering wheel, special badges and the like. In fact, the only thing that seems different, apart from the “Black Edition” moniker, is the availability of a second exterior color: while the American version can only be had in “quartz” dark grey, the European Black edition can also be had in – you guessed it – black. It also comes with the full infotainment package

The 370 examples will begin distribution in April – a month after the Geneva Motor Show where it’s set to debut – with a £33,645 (~$53k) price tag in the UK. That’s over £5k above stock, but then the Black edition comes packed full of optional equipment. Full details in the press release after the jump and high-res photos in the gallery below.
