Japan-based Bird Electron has announced [JP] the Ezison 100 today, a quite unusual speaker for the iPhone (or iPod touch) that’s supposed to turn those devices into some kind of electric guitar. The Ezison 100 is (hand)made in Japan, with Bird Electron saying they used mainly wood and acrylic fiber in the production process.

Users are supposed to place their iPhone into the speaker’s housing and connect it with the speaker through the headphone jack. You can then run a guitar app on your iPhone, for example this one, and pretend to be a real guitarist.

The Ezison 100 features a 2W digital amplifier. Measuring 450×150×35mm, the device weighs 650g and is powered by three AA batteries.

You can only get the speaker on Bird Electron’s Japanese website. It will go on sale on January 30 and is limited to 50 units (price: $290). Ask the Japan Trend Shop or Geek Stuff 4 U if they can get one for you.

Can you name a company as successful as Google that spends as little advertising its own wares? Me neither.

Still, in the past few years the search giant has started flexing its ad prowess on its own behalf, in limited ways: It has taken out ads to push products like its Chrome browser, its Nexus One smartphone, and even its position in its fight/negotiation with China. All using Google ad products, of course.

So I guess this a natural next step: Google ads advertising Google advertising. Google (GOOG) has at least eight of these YouTube spots, which they’re promoting via banner ads.

I think they’re quite clever. And I’m assuming they’re copyright-compliant — note the licensing note in the “Batman” spot. No need to tangle with the people at Time Warner (TWX) while you’re still locked in a legal battle with Viacom (VIA). I also appreciate the plug for The National, which is indeed a great band.

The only odd thing here is that the “Search on” campaign is  advertising… Google search. Which really doesn’t need a boost.

If anything, you’d think Google would be trying to sell advertisers on its display ads. But perhaps that’s coming, as CEO Eric Schmidt hinted during last week’s earnings call.

Chicago-based ExteNet Systems, which designs, builds and operates network infrastructure, has received $128 million from SSP Offshore, SBA Communications, Centennial Ventures, Columbia Capital, Sevin Rosen Funds, CenterPoint Ventures and Palomar Ventures. This brings the starup’s total funding to over $150 million.

ExteNet’s fiber network infrastructure are widely implemented by wireless service providers. The company promises providers with the ability to expand coverage to hard to reach spots.The new funding will support further development of infrastructure for wireless service providers.

[France] Music search and discovering service Deezer is currently caught up in a storm of controversy: its co-founder and CEO Jonathan Benassaya has effectively been forced out by his investors. After Deezer faced mounting competition from services like Spotify, it’s emerged that investors ousted the founder in order to put in place a more experienced business manager to both reorganize and perhaps prepare some kind of exit. They’ve been disappointed with Deezer’s performance towards a premium service and low advertising revenues.

The rumour that this was about to happen began last week grew a head of steam over the weekend, as reported by music expert Philippe Astor on French site Electronlibre (Google translation). Midem, the annual conference for the music industry, is currently taking place in Cannes, France and the departure of Jonathan Bessaya from Deezer was one of the buzzing topics during the weekend. One of the things that confirmed this rumour was that the CEO was due to participate on a panel on Saturday during Midemnet (the part of Midem focused on the online music industry) but he conspicuously did not show up. His name was even up on screen during the panel he was supposed to attend. On this panel was also Paul Brown, SVP of Spotify, that is widely regarded as a Deezer killer.

Things are not going to well for AvtoVAZ, the Russian car manufacturer which produces the cheap Lada brand, as production seriously dropped in 2009. In an interview for a German newspaper, the head of Russia’s largest car importer said that AvtoVAZ should be sold to Renault for $1.

Here in the USA, WUWT readers probably don’t have a true handle on the firestorm that is going on in India over Pachauri’s “glaciergate”. It is making headlines and the people there are quite angry, because they’ve been led to believe that their Himalayan water supply was seriously threatened in the not too distant future (2035) as reported in the IPCC AR4, and now they find out it’s a bogus, and that a Pachauri peer now specifically admits the 2035 date was known to be false, and used anyway to scare policymakers into action.

Dr. Richard North, who co-wrote the first story with Christopher Booker of the Telegraph that got the inquiry started over two weeks ago, now says on an interview on Indian television that ” If Dr Pachauri does not resign voluntarily, he will be forced to do so.”

There’s little point in trying to disguise our interest any time a 4.8-inch multifunctional device is mentioned, so let’s get straight to the good stuff here. Cowon’s V5 HD already got a little teaser video and a full spec dish ahead of its Korean launch, but for the vast majority of us non-Korean folk, this PMP remains a distant and unfortunately mysterious object of desire. Sure, we know it can pump out 720p and has HDMI and Composite outputs, but what’s it like to use? The video after the break does a pretty thorough job of going through the UI, and though it alarmed us with its extensive stylus use, we were eventually soothed by some buttery smooth video playback. There was plenty of fun to be had on Sunday night’s episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Fans got to see various members of the clan, including prima donna, take turns getting plummeted in the boxing ring.

The buxom beauty and her baby bro Rob were left bruised and bloodied after stepping into the ring for a charity boxing match benefiting The Dream Foundation at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, California.

“The event itself was absolutely insane!!” Kardashian blogged of the event last November. “We literally had three days of training to prepare for the event and thought it would be a little bit of fun to raise money for one of our favorite charities. We didn’t expect what happened.”

You think you’re in shape? Think you’ve got endurance? You’ve got nothing on Mike Buss. This former soldier recently logged three marathons a day on a treadmill at the Brunel Shopping Center in England.

Buss broke the world record by covering more than 500 miles – 517.25 miles to be exact – in a week on a treadmill. Over the record-breaking week Buss had only two hours a sleep a day and took breaks only for food and a massage.

All that running burned around 11,000 calories a day. Buss was consuming about 3,500 calories a day, so he lost eight and a half pounds in the week. He also lost two toenails in the process.

Buss is raising money for the charity Help for Heroes which assists British servicemen and their families.

Ruam popok ( diaper rash, diaper dermatitis, napkin dermatitis ) masih kerap kita jumpai dalam keseharian, terutama pada bayi. Para orang tua sudah tidak asing lagi dengan ruam popok, suatu gangguan kulit berupa bercak merah pada kulit di area yang tertutup popok, yakni: pantat, perut bagian bawah, pelipatan paha, area kemaluan dan dubur (anogenital). Ruam popok atau irritant diaper dermatitis (IDD) merupakan bercak merah pada kulit yang tertutup popok karena iritasi oleh pelbagai faktor.

Meski ruam popok tidak bahaya, namun tak jarang membuat anak terganggu karena rasa gatal, perih, risih dan kadang terasa sakit, sehingga anak menjadi gelisah dan rewel.

Ruam popok atau irritant diaper dermatitis (IDD) merupakan bercak merah pada kulit yang tertutup popok karena iritasi oleh pelbagai faktor.

Pada ruam popok yang ringan, pada umumnya akan sembuh dalam beberapa hari dengan pemberian bedak atau bahkan tanpa diobati.

ANGKA KEJADIAN

Incidence rate (angka kejadian) ruam popok berbeda-beda di setiap negara, bergantung pada hygiene, pengetahuan orang tua (pengasuh) tentang tata cara penggunaan popok dan menurut saya mungkin juga berhubungan dengan faktor cuaca. Kimberly A Horii, MD (asisten profesor spesialis anak Universitas Misouri) dan John Mersch, MD, FAAP menyebutkan bahwa 10-20 % Diaper dermatitis dijumpai pada praktek spesialis anak di Amerika. Sedangkan prevalensi pada bayi berkisar antara 7-35%, dengan angka terbanyak pada usia 9-12 bulan. Sementara itu Rania Dib, MD menyebutkan ruam popok berkisar 4-35 % pada usia 2 tahun pertama.

FAKTOR-FAKTOR PENYEBAB

Beberapa faktor penyebab terjadinya ruam popok ( diaper rash, diaper dermatitis, napkin dermatitis ), antara lain:

• Iritasi atau gesekan antara popok dengan kulit.
• Faktor kelembaban.
• Kurangnya menjaga hygiene. Popok jarang diganti atau terlalu lama tidak segera diganti setelah pipis atau BAB (feces).
• Infeksi mikro-organisme (terutama infeksi jamur dan bakteri)
• Alergi bahan popok.
• Gangguan pada kelenjar keringat di area yang tertutup popok.

Ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh iritasi dan faktor kelembaban, pada umumnya dapat disembuhkan dengan bedak dan mengganti popok sesering mukin terutama jika basah dan kotor oleh urine atau feces. Sedangkan ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh infeksi mikro-organisme, seyogyanya berobat ke dokter terdekat untuk mendapatkan obat yang tepat sesuai penyebabnya.

BERBAGAI BENTUK GANGGUAN KULIT PADA RUAM POPOK

Beberapa gangguan kulit yang berhubungan dengan ruam popok, diantaranya:

• Intertrigo, yakni iritasi atau lecet pada kulit dikarenakan kulit basah dan lembab serta gesekan dengan popok, sehingga permukaan kulit menjadi lebih mudah terkelupas.
• Miliaria atau biang keringat, yakni timbulnya bintik-bintik merah pada permukaan kulit karena penyumbatan kelenjar keringat (kelenjar eccrine).
• Dermatitis kontak (contact dermatitis), merupakan reaksi alergi terhadap bahan popok. Dapat juga karena reaksi alergi terhadap campuran urine dan feces yang dibiarkan terlalu lama melekat di popok. Selain itu, perubahan PH oleh urine dan feces pada kulit diduga memicu terjadinya reaksi alergi.
• Candidal diaper dermatitis, yakni ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh infeksi jamur Candida albicans. Sekitar 40-70% ruam popok yang berlangsung lebih 3 hari dapat memicu terjadinya kolonisasi jamur kandida.
• Bacterial diaper dermatitis, yakni ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh infeksi kuman (bakteri), terutama Staphylococcus, Streptococcus dan Enterobacteriaceae. Jenis ruam popok karena infeksi kuman yang kerap dijumpai adalah impetigo dan sesulitis (cellulitis) serta folikulitis (folliculitis).
• Granuloma gluteal infantum, merupakan gangguan kulit pada ruam popok yang jarang terjadi. Biasanya timbul karena terlalu lama iritasi dan infeksi mikro-organisme yang tidak diobati.

PENGOBATAN

Pada prinsipnya, pengobatan ruam popok bergantung kepada penyebabnya. Ruam popok yang disebabkan iritasi dan miliaria, tidak memerlukan obat khusus. Cukup dengan menjaga agar popok tetap kering dan memelihara hygiene.

Pada ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh infeksi mikro-organisme, atau iritasi dan miliaria yang luas, obat-obat yang lazim digunakan, antara lain:

• Bedak salisil dan bedak yang mengandung antihistamin. Hanya digunakan pada iritasi (intertigo) dan miliaria atas anjuran dokter. Pastikan bedak tidak berhamburan agar tidak mengganggu pernafasan si kecil.
• Anti jamur. Digunakan pada ruam popok karena infeksi jamur (candidal diaper dermatitis). Pilih anti jamur berbentuk bedak (merk dagang, misalnya: daktarin powder dan mycorine powder), diberikan selama 3-4 minggu.
• Anti infeksi topikal (salep, krim). Digunakan pada ruam popok yang disebabkan oleh infeksi bakteri ringan, misalnya bacitracin salep. Adapun untuk infeksi yang lebih berat, dapat digunakan anti infeksi oral (diminum), misalnya kombinasi amoksisilin dengan asam klavulanat dan diberikan pula anti infeksi topikal.
• Steroid. Digunakan pada ruam popok yang disebabkan reaksi alergi, dioleskan 2 kali sehari hingga sembuh atau selama 2 minggu.

Walaupun ruam popok bukanlah penyakit yang serius, jika dalam 2-3 hari tidak kunjung sembuh, maka langkah terbaik adalah konsultasi ke dokter. Penggunaan anti jamur, anti infeksi dan steroid hendaknya hanya atas rekomendasi dokter.

TIPS MENCEGAH DAN MENGATASI RUAM POPOK

• Apapun jenis popok yang digunakan, pastikan popok tetap bersih dan kering.
• Hindari pemakaian popok yang ketat.
• Ganti popok segera setelah si kecil buang air kecil atau BAB.
• Gunakan air mengalir untuk membersihkan feces (tinja) dengan bilasan lembut. Usahakan tidak menggosok area dubur dan pantat agar tidak iritasi. Biarkan area pantat mengering oleh udara terbuka.
• Jika si kecil mengalami ruam popok, dapat menggunakan krim pelindung kulit yang mengandung petrolatum dan zinc oxide. Oleskan secara lembut dan tipis sebagai pelindung kulit si kecil.
• Konsultasikan ke dokter bila ruam popok tidak sembuh dalam 3 hari.

It is time for the embattled Rajendra Pachauri to resign as Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC). He is steadfastly refusing to go, but his position is becoming more and more untenable by the day, and the official climate science body will continue to leach credibility while he remains in charge.

When on Friday I wrote for my Daily Telegraph column (published yesterday) that he was “at best one more blunder away from having to resign”, I did not expect other errors to come to light quite so fast. But, as I blogged yesterday, four more have now been reported from the part of the latest IPCC report on Himalayan glaciers that contained the notorious – and now withdrawn – claim that they would disappear by 2035. And there are now reports that it erred in relying on an unpublished report in linking natural disasters like flood and hurricanes to global warming. All appear much less serious than the original Himalayan howler, but they add to the impression of sloppiness at the IPCC.

Pachauri’s reaction to the original revelation was widely reported to be that he claimed to have “absolutely no responsibility” for the mistake. But – leaving aside the obvious fact that, as Chairman, he is ultimately responsible for the content and standards of the report – he is himself rapidly emerging as much more of an issue than even a few errors in the 3000 word document. Much of his trouble, rightly, stems from his outrageous reaction to an Indian paper late last year which suggested that the glaciers were not vanishing quickly – dismissing it as “voodoo science” and adding, hubristically: “We have a very clear idea of what is happening in the Himalayas.”

The toff British car manufacturer Aston Martin is continuing its global expansion strategy: the company has launched over the weekend an imposing dealership in Beijing.

The new store has am impressive size of 500 square meters, thus being twice as big as Aston’s other two dealerships in Beijing. It is located at 66 Jinbao Street, Chaoyang District and will accommodate seven of the company’s exclusive vehicles, as Chinadaily reports.
