  • FizWoz App Lets You Make Money Off Your iPhone’s Pictures and Videos

61344v2 161x300 FizWoz App Lets You Make Money Off Your iPhones Pictures and VideosEvery picture is worth at least one thousand words, but maybe you have one worth one thousand dollars. Start looking through your photo album because FizWoz makes it super easy to auction off your pictures. The FizWoz app, which is currently free on the iPhone store, lets you choose as many pictures as you want to auction off. Set your minimum starting price, a selling price, and a reserve price along with a title and description and you’re ready to go. I advise getting on as soon as you can before FizWoz gets flooded with other users also trying to earn on their captures. I was also surprised how quick you can get your picture ready to start earning. The process takes less than a minute per picture. Make sure to fill your titles and descriptions with good keywords. People using the FizWoz website have alerts set up for certain keywords.

You can’t buy pictures, or view other pictures, from the iPhone app as of yet, you’ll need to go to the website for that. But you can track the progress of your auctions from the app. FizWoz uses algorithms based on the category and keywords to determine how long to keep your auction running. They also have features built in to detect if it is an original picture or not. If it’s a doctored image in anyway it will just list as “unoriginal.”

I already put up a few of my pictures up for auction. Now I play the waiting game….Hey, who knows, maybe someone’s really looking for a picture of the Oscar Mayer Weiner truck chilling out in Times Square. Also what’s really neat is that all three of them are up on the fizwoz.com homepage as recently uploaded. I’m not even logged in—cool! Seriously—get your pics up now before it gets flooded and/or becomes a paying service or something. Videos work too!

  • Trendrr and Klout partner for advanced social media monitoring

picBeing able to monitor and measure social and digital media in real time is a vital component for brands looking to interact and be apart of the online conversations taking place everyday.

Today, social and digital media tracking platform Trendrr and social influencer measurement platform Klout agreed to share social data. The deal, first announced at the PluggedIn conference, will integrate Klout’s influencer data into Trendrr’s intelligence platform. Klout’s data tracks Twitter users and their content, how people interact with that content and the size and composition of their networks.

Created by Wiredset, Trendrr now tracks volume, sentiment, location, demographic and influencers for chosen “trends” within its platform. The company notes agencies, networks, brands and motion picture companies as customers looking at social media’s impact on sales, savings and brand equity.

A company representative notes that executives at Trendrr and Klout have not disclosed the exact terms of the deal, but it appears that Klout will be driving Trendrr’s  influence engine, and the two will explore the ways Klout can leverage the data Trendrr structures (from over 50 sites on the social web).

Below is an example of a trend on Trendrr tracking “Facebook vs. Twitter vs. Iraq (News Stories from Google).”

  • Wii streams Netflix this Spring, world rejoices

Hey humans! So Hastings was telling us the truth after all — the Nintendo Wii will be joining the other two game consoles to stream Netflix, starting in early Spring. Like the PS3, a special Netflix “instant-streaming” disc will be required for the Wii, but there’s no mention of HD playback which isn’t surprising. There’ll be no additional fees for Wii owners who are already on “a Netflix subscription that costs at least $9 a month.” Time for a game of Mario Kart to celebrate, no?

  • Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset leaked on Craigslist?

We know the rule of thumb is to not trust everything on Craigslist, but when an unreleased refresh of the cool-looking Jawbone Bluetooth headset pops up for sale, it’d be wrong to ignore it. HTCPedia managed to get cozy with Mr. Blurrycam and got a few shots of the supposedly forthcoming Jawbone Icon, which appears to don the same skin pattern as the Jawbone Prime but in a form factor similar to the original Jawbone — quite an odd decision so we remain skeptical, but it’d be a welcoming addition for the market nevertheless. A couple of close-up shots after the break.

    [Thanks, Brian!]

In other changes, Shoaib Malik and Khurran Manzoor have come in for struggling batsmen Faisal Iqbal and Misbah-ul-Haq, while teenage paceman Mohammad Aamer returns in place of Mohammad Sami.

  • Quake Measuring 7.3 Rocks Haiti News Updates

Quake measuring 7.3 rocks Haiti, tsunami warning issuedA tsunami warning was in place for Haiti, Cuba, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, with the first waves predicted to hit Haiti shortly.

The ambassador told media he was heartbroken as he had just spoken by telephone with a senior presidential aide who described scenes of chaos and devastation.

“He had to stop his car just about half an hour ago, and take to the streets, start walking, but he said houses were crumbling on the right side of the street and the left side of the street,” Joseph said.

“He does not know whether he would reach his home, not knowing what he would find, because he had a bridge to cross to get there.”

A US Coast Guard spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson in Florida said they did not have much information yet, saying they had not yet been able to contact their office in Haiti.

“We haven’t taken any measure in the area so far. We don’t have any information rather that what we got from the news,” she told media.

“We couldn’t contact our officer there yet, so we are waiting to have more information in a couple of hours.”

Already the poorest nation in the Americas, Haiti has been hit by a series of disasters recently and was battered by hurricanes in 2008.

The country was also gripped by a tense political standoff in April 2008 amid riots over skyrocketing food prices.

Seventy percent of Haiti’s population lives on less than two dollars per day and half of its 8.5 million people are unemployed.

According to official figures, food insecurity already affects more than a quarter of Haiti’s population, some 1.9 million people, with women and children the worst affected.

The Food and Agriculture Organization has designated Haiti as one of the world’s most economically vulnerable countries.

The WFP serves one meal a day to more than 500,000 Haitian schoolchildren, providing them with what is often their only meal of the day.

The organization also feeds 100,000 women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and 50,000 children under the age of five.

Since mid-2004, the Brazilian-led MINUSTAH has been keeping the peace in the impoverished Caribbean island nation.

  • Libertador San Martin – Entre Rios

  • Keeping Up Appearances: Subaru launches JDM Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S

Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S – Click above for high-res image gallery

Another day, another new special-edition Subaru Impreza. There are worse things, after all. This one, however, doesn’t quite have the substance of the recently unveiled WRX STI R205. Whereas the R205 is a real fire-breathing monster of a hatch, the long-winded Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S (try saying that three times fast) is mostly a trim package.

That package includes 18-inch gunmetal rims, gold Brembo brake calipers and Recaro buckets in a cockpit decked out with contrasting red top-stitch and a 10-speaker audio system. It definitely looks sharp, but the Japanese consumers that are able to buy it shouldn’t expect much in the way of heightened performance over the already stonking STI. The Type S commands a 3,255,000 yen (circa $35k USD) sticker price in its domestic market, so if you want to have a look and you don’t live in the Land of the Rising Sun, you had better check it out in our high-res image gallery below.

  • Down For Everyone Or Just Me Gets A New Owner

Screen shot 2010-01-12 at 4.49.13 PM

With web hosting services like Rackspace going down time, and time again, Down For Everyone Or Just Me has become a hot spot to check to see if a lagging site is down for everyone, or just you. The site was created as a side project by longtime Twitter engineer Alex Payne, and has managed to grow quite a large following.

Over the weekend, Payne sold the site to Bweeb, Inc, which is known for running Site5 Web Hosting. Although Payne isn’t too sure what Bweeb’s plans are for the site, I suspect they’ll keep its functionality largely the same (and people will keep coming to it).

In a blog post, Payne mentions that the site hasn’t received that much attention lately, and wanted a new owner that would continue development of the site and add some new features.

I had numerous feature requests after the site launched, but turning it into a robust, multi-homed uptime checker was never my goal. All I’ve ever done with the site is:

    1. Ported it from a simple Ruby implementation to App Engine.
    2. Put some ads on it; first Google AdWords, then later individual campaigns that I negotiated by email. I made about USD $300/month from the site, on average.
    3. Wired up a Twitter account that would tweet out sites that were frequently seen by the service as “down” within a short time period. (This functionality has been inactive since November, 2008.)

The price of the sale was not disclosed, but Payne also mentioned that “it was proportional to the amount of time and effort I’ve put into it (that is, not much).” Payne has also made the source code of the site public again.

  • More Modern Concepts from Steve Lukes

    SteveLukes_new

Last month when I showed you a concept for a cat bed from Steve Lukes, several readers left feedback for Steve concerning the food bowl being right next to the sleeping area. Well, Steve went back to the drawing board (well, back to the computer) and revised his ideas based on the feedback. The ultra modern cat bed now has a scratching pad by the sleeping area instead of a food bowl. While he was at it, he also came up with another idea for a two-story, raised bed. I’m sure he’d like to hear what you think, and if you happen to be looking for a product designer, I hear he’s available!

  • Tila Tequila Wants Custody Of Casey Johnson Daughter Ava

In an interview airing Wednesday on Extra, controversial celebutante Tila Tequila reveals that she is prepared to fight for custody of her late fiancee’s adopted daughter. Socialite Casey Johnson was found dead in her West Hollywood mansion last week. The heiress to the multi-billion dollar Johnson & Johnson empire left behind a 3-year-old daughter, Ava Monroe.

Little Ava — whose godmother is hotel heiress Nicky Hilton — currently lives with Casey’s mother Sale and her husband, sportscaster Ahmad Rashad. However, Tila cites cryptic “dreams” which tell her that the current custody arrangement is not the one Casey would have wanted. The former star of MTV’s A Shot At Love has vowed to file papers to fulfill Casey’s “final wish” and adopt the child.

“She’s not resting in peace right now. She has come to me in my dreams,” Tila explains. “Her last wish was to have Ava, have me have Ava.”

Watchismo seems to like it, calling it “bold” but I’m of the school where tools should have some indication of their function. What if everything had no markings? Where would we be then? Think of the children.

  • Carolina Low Country Bourbon and Peach Chicken

The Carolina Low Country is an area along the South Carolina coast that includes the South Carolina Sea Islands. This area is rich in agriculture and immersed in history and amazing architecture. The lowcountry is known for its beauty and culture and is an international travel destination. The cultural impact on cooking is mostly southern, influenced by African and Caribbean roots. The seafood found in this coastal region is great and plentiful and the marshlands produce rice. This recipe has neither seafood or rice but is steeped in southern influences and flavors. Developed from a classic Carolina Low Country recipe this has been adapted to be much lower in carbohydrates but still retain the integrity of the original dish. A wonderfully different bourbon spiked, fruited and spiced simple dish to make. I hope you enjoy.

Carolina Low Country Bourbon and Peach Chicken

    Ingredients:

    1 Tbsp. unsalted butter
    1 cup onion, diced
    1 tsp. paprika
    1 cup scallions, thinly sliced
1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breast, sliced into 1" wide strips
3/4 cup low sodium chicken stock
    2 Tbsp. bourbon
    2 Tbsp. orange zest
2 Tbsp. sugar free orange marmalade
    1 cup peaches, diced
    1/3 tsp. nutmeg
    salt and pepper

    Preheat oven 400′

While the oven is heating melt the butter in a medium saute pan on medium low heat. Add the onions and saute about 3 or 4 minutes until they start to become translucent. Add the paprika and all but 1 tablespoon of the scallions. Cook for about 3 or 4 minutes longer, stirring occasionally.

In the meantime arrange the chicken strips an a casserole dish. Season with salt and pepper if desired. Add the onion mixture, chicken stock, bourbon, orange zest and orange marmalade and blend together. Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, occasionally basting the chicken with the sauce. Spoon the diced peaches over the top and sprinkle with nutmeg. Return to continue cooking for about 10 to 15 minutes longer, or until the chicken is done. Garnish with the reserved scallion.

  • Furious Google throws down gauntlet to China over censorship

Well, we’ve got to hand it to Google—the company’s “don’t be evil” schtick has long worn thin and governments around the globe are already probing its potential monopoly power, but who else would come out swinging against the entire Chinese government and announce an end to its own collaboration in censorship, all while recognizing that it could lose access to the entire Chinese market? And do it in a blog post?

  • Shocker!!! Lane Kiffin Back to USC After Only One Year at Tennessee

Turning the CFB world on it’s ear, USC announced late today that Lane Kiffin will be named their new head coach. This change comes only 14 months after Kiffin replaced long time Vol coach Phil Fulmer. Wringing his hands both literally and figuratively at his hastily called press conference, Kiffin said that the decision was a hard one and that ultimately, USC was the probably the only job he would leave Tennessee for.

Kiffin’s departure leaves in it’s wake a slew of wreckage from his inaugural stint as a college head coach–the pre-season trash talking, the admonishments by commissioner Mike Slive, three players arrested for armed robbery and all the secondary recruiting violations, including the well-publicized one concerning recruiting hostesses. It’s certainly ironic that USC, a school who may very well be in the cross hairs of the NCAA’s enforcement division, has now hired a coach who’s recruiting habits are to say the least, suspect.

Today also saw a public turn-down of the possibility of a job offer by Jacksonville Jaguar head coach Jack Del Rio, a former player at USC, but someone who has no college coaching experience. Del Rio was the second name to be mentioned behind Oregon’s Mike Riley. DC Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron are leaving with Lane Kiffin, and word has it that an effort is under foot to get current UCLA OC Norm Chow back across town to his old stomping grounds, where he served as OC under Pete Carroll early in the 2000s.

While the dust settles on today’s event, I don’t think that I’m going out on a limb by saying that Kiffin, by suddenly jumping ship to USC, will now become the most hated coach in all of CFB, jumping such notables as Nick Saban and Bobby Petrino, who both had perceived ‘loyalty’ issues. As if he wasn’t already.

Anyone wanna reach Al Davis for comment?

UPDATE: There are unconfirmed reports that students ganged up en mass and have attempted to block the departure of Kiffin and were dispersed with tear gas. There are also rumors that departing coach Ed Orgeron has told early Tennessee signees not to go to class this semester in an apparent attempt to get them to sign with USC before their committment is official. Again, as of now, these are unconfirmed and we will have more as it breaks.

  • Insulin for the Long Term

Is there anyone on this forum that is a Type 2 Diabetic that has done well using insulin for a number of years? Have you had any complications?

I read so many reports about insulin being bad for Type 2’s and maybe even causing heart disease. I personally (other than gaining weight) like the way I feel on insulin (better than pills) I have so much energy, but I just don’t know if it is destroying my body.

I would like to know your experience with insulin.
