  • RIV938 – RIV938S: regulation of oil pressure and one position trigger mechanism

Rivit has launched at the Hardware Fair in Cologne two new models of hydropneumatic tools for inserts: RIV938 and RIV938S.
RIV938 is designed for Rivsert female threaded inserts, from M3 to M8, and Rivbolt male threaded inserts, from M4 to M8. RIV938S, however, is used for placing threaded inserts from M3 to M6. Both of them have regulation of oil pressure (force).
The new tools were designed so that the hydropneumatic system and the mechanical parts that make up the internal structure of the tools, in comparison with other models, provide high reliability in reducing problems due to wear of components, resulting in improved durability and functionality of the tools themselves.
The advantages of RIV938 and RIV938S are:
    One-position trigger mechanism.
No adjustments are needed when thicknesses change.
No damage to mandrel (or tie rod) is caused when the operation is repeated.

  • ULTRASOUND WASHER

The units of the Compact U.S. series consist of vat of washing endowed with one or more immerse ultrasound transducers and of inside or external autonomous generator. Their operating principle consists in propagating vibrations through the liquid at a variable frequency, that can generate high-pressure and low pressure waves and put the liquid in cavitation. Cavitation produces some bubble of vapor that implode creating an infinite of small crash against the walls of the component in treatment. These diffused little knock contribute to detach dry dirty. All the vats are constructed in stainless steel and are double skinned with thermal insulation. The unities of Compact US series are realized in some standard models that differ for heating and ultrasound power.
The unities of special us series consist in vat of washing realized in base to the specific demands of the client, endowed with particular dimensions, multiple stadiums of treatment and more or less sophisticated automatisms. The construction of multiple stage systems in semiautomatic and automatic versions may be achieved by aligning of the single units.

  • New high efficiency screw jacks

Not simple mechanical components, but lifting solutions. When in addition to the completeness of the range there is also the availability of a wide range of accessories and options, it is possible to develop complete and highly customized lifting systems to meet specific needs.

The recent expansion and improvement of the screw jacks range made by MecVel, has given out the new series HT (travelling screw version) and HR (rotating screw).
The mentioned series are now available in 6 models HR / HT 05-10-25-50-100-200, with forces from 5 to 200 kN and reduction ratios from 1:4 to 1:30.

They have been fully revised in order to achieve higher performance benefits over previous models; the new versions have more versatile mounting holes and conjugated profiles type IZ of helical worms and bronze wheels (involute profile-section). This leads to a gradual, continuous and smooth pairing in rolling of conjugated profiles, in all conditions of operation and the torque transmission occurs in a more gentle and gradual way.

The worms are case-hardened and tempered steel, while the bronze wheels present increased height for greater contact area which dissipates more heat and increases the driving of the screw.

The frictional losses are very small, because the involute component clearly prevails over the sliding friction. From this it follows a higher and more steady efficiency, and at the same time, a reduction of overheating produced by friction. The gearbox will thus be quieter, the vibrations reduced and the duration of the product increased.

Also improved sealing system allows both grease and oil lubrication.

These features allow duty cycles up to 100%, high speeds, higher safety factors and screws longer than 3 m. Available travelling and rotating screws can be both trapezoidal in carbon steel (standard) or Stainless steel AISI 304 and ball screws.

To complete this range a very wide set of accessories and options are also supplied: bevel gearboxes, shafts, couplings, electronic devices for control of motor torque. A wide choice that enables supply of full lifting systems highly customized and complete solutions targeted to meet specific needs.

  • Rumor: Audi RS5 confirmed for the United States?

As huge fans of Audi’s high-performance quattro vehicles, we were pretty disappointed to learn that the new Audi RS5 will not be coming to the United States. Well, it seems like Audi may have changed its mind and the new RS5 may be headed to the stateside after all.

Click here for pricing on the 2010 Audi A5.

Apparently the growing popularity of the RS5 in the United States has Audi second-guessing itself. When (and if) the Audi RS5 comes to the stateside, it will be the first RS-car to be shipped stateside since the departure of the slow-selling RS4 Cabriolet in 2008.

U.S. sales of the Audi RS5 should begin sometime in the summer of 2011.

Refresher: Power for the 2011 Audi RS5 comes from a 4.2L naturally aspirated V8 making 450-hp and a maximum torque of 317 lb-ft. Mated to a standard 7-speed S tronic, the 2011 RS5 goes from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (electronically governed).

  • Novos detalhes do surpreendente Subaru Impreza STI CS400

    Subaru Impreza STI CS400

  • Apparently Rupert Murdoch Loves Fair Use When It Protects Him

Earlier this year, we pointed to a lawsuit involving Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., sued for airing an interview with Michael Jackson’s ex-wife. We noted how amusing the lawsuit filing was, because it blatantly mocked Rupert Murdoch due to his earlier statements claiming that fair use would be barred by the courts — trying to cut off that defense. But, of course, the only way to defend the actions is to use fair use — and that’s exactly what Fox News is doing in its defense of the lawsuit, heavily claiming fair use. It certainly makes you wonder — if Murdoch ever really does pull that supposedly itchy trigger finger on a Google lawsuit — if filings such as these will come back to haunt him. How can he claim that fair use doesn’t exist on the one hand, while one of his companies uses the doctrine to defend itself in a lawsuit?

  • 2010 New York: Mazda announces, SKY-D high-performance diesel for U.S.

Mazda has announced plans to launch its all-new SKY Concept powertrains in the United States starting as early as 2011.

“By launching our SKY technologies into the global market place, beginning in 2011, we will take a huge step toward accomplishing our stated goal of achieving a 30-percent improvement in global fuel economy by 2015,” said Takashi Yamanouchi, representative director, president and CEO, Mazda Motor Corporation.

The first of the two engines to be introduced in the U.S. will be the Mazda SKY-G, the company’s next-generation gasoline engine that will be the core powertrain in future Mazda vehicles. SKY-G is expected to boost fuel efficiency by approximately 15 percent while increasing engine power.

The SKY-G engine will be followed by the SKY-D engine, a high-performance diesel engine that will allow its next-generation Mazda6 mid-size sedan to achieve 43 mpg on the highway – “which is better than today’s mid-sized hybrids – and a 20-percent improvement in fuel efficiency over Mazda’s current 2.2-liter diesel,” Yamanouchi said.

“By optimizing our existing technologies – engines, transmissions, weight reduction and aerodynamics – we aim to benefit all our customers and minimize the cost of ownership,” said Yamanouchi. “The phased introduction of these new technologies will form the building blocks of Mazda’s future.”

  • Why Are Fewer and Fewer U.S. Employees Satisfied With Their Jobs?

    Published: April 2, 2010
    Author: Jim Heskett

Two items caught my eye this month. I’m wondering whether they have anything to do with one another. The first is a news release from The Conference Board reporting that its most recent periodic poll showed that only 45 percent of workers in the U.S. were satisfied with their jobs, the lowest level in the 23-year history of the poll—this in an era in which we are told that jobs are being enhanced by information technology.

The second is an article by Jeffrey Pfeffer pointing out the prevalence of “green” initiatives by business organizations. Invariably these initiatives are associated with saving the external environment. Pfeffer asks why, in the face of the evidence of its importance, do so few of these initiatives involve the sustainability of workers in these same organizations? Citing Wal-Mart and BP, he maintains that the same organizations that are lauded for their efforts to sustain the external environment are, at the same time, exercising cost-cutting efforts (such as low wages, poor benefits, no health insurance for many employees in the case of Wal-Mart, fines for safety violations in the case of BP) in dealing with their employees.

Pfeffer cites a large body of epidemiological and public health research that suggests that an organization’s practices have profound effects on the health of its employees. A large body of research offers evidence of the following: (1) Organizations implementing health and wellness programs for their employees realize significant cost savings through reduced disability expenses, (2) Health insurance affects health status positively, (3) Layoffs are harmful to everything from mental and physical well-being to work behavior, (4) Work schedules and length of hours affect physical well-being and family relationships, both of which can have positive or negative effects on productivity, (5) Job design that allows employees to have control over their work is conducive to lower stress levels and better health outcomes (for example, the higher one rises in an organization, the lower the risk of cardiovascular problems), and (6) Policies that promote inequality in income and education can, by extension, lead to poor health outcomes.

Much of the research that does explore the impact of organizational practice focuses on outcomes such as cost and profitability. For example, satisfied, engaged employees have been found to be more productive, a finding that essentially treats them as means to an end. Why is that? Among other things, Pfeffer speculates that one reason is that we assume correctly that polar bears can’t do much to affect their own well-being. Humans, on the other hand, can take steps to improve theirs. As a result, to varying degrees around the world, we adopt a “laissez faire” attitude toward issues of human sustainability. Does this help explain the findings of The Conference Board?

Has concern about the sustainability of our environment taken precedent over issues associated with sustaining organizations? Or are we just revisiting age-old issues with new vocabulary? Would more than 1.3 million Wal-Mart employees worldwide see this issue the same way as those who assume what’s good for them? Why are fewer and fewer employees satisfied with their jobs, in spite of the adoption of information technology that should make them more interesting? What kinds of responses, if any, are called for? What do you think?
