  • Roughing and reaming in one process

The KOMET GROUP® is introducing a completely redesigned roughing and finishing tool programme. The tools which are used in machining cast workpieces score points primarily in terms of efficiency, as they complete two processes in one.

The challenge for tools whose aim it is to carry out roughing and ream-ing in one process lies in achieving the required roundness and coaxi-ality, given the high stock-removing capacity and accompanying forces. For this reason, such tools are usually equipped with guide rails, which could, however, lead to problems in the machining proc-ess. Typically for KOMET®, the development of the new roughing and finishing tools for cast workpieces is based on an indexable insert innovation, which enables not only roughing but also reaming using the economical, multi-blade plank. Thanks to the innovative cutting insert geometry using support chamfers, the old guide rails are no longer required.

In addition, the two features of replaceable cutting inserts and multi-blade indexable inserts (familiar to the field of counterboring) increase both efficiency and flexibility even in finishing tools, compared to tradi-tional reamers with soldered cutters. Furthermore, the adjustable na-ture of the indexable inserts allows micro-precision adjustments.

The tools are manufactured with four to six cutters on a basic body, depending on the application, and for length/diameter ratios of up to 5xD. With various cutting material/coating variants they can also be perfectly adapted to the customer’s requirements, depending on the material. For example, in GG50 the tools work in cutting depths (ap) of three to four millimetres, whereas under good machine conditions IT7 tolerances are possible.

  • Watson-Marlow Masosine Technology Replaces Gear Pumps at Chocolate Factory

Watson-Marlow Masosine MR and SPS series positive displacement pumps have been installed at the Fakenham, Norfolk plant of chocolate and confectionery specialist, Kinnerton. The first Masosine pump was introduced to replace a gear pump that was damaging product on an Easter egg production line, with a second model acquired recently to support a newly installed caramel production line. The company has now decided to standardise on Masosine pumps moving forward.

Established in 1978, Kinnerton today is part of Zetar Plc, and can boast a turnover of £60 million.

“We had an inclusion mixer on one particular line that was supported by an ageing gear pump,” says the company’s engineering supervisor, Phil Barwick. “The line was set up to produce a new white chocolate Easter egg with dried raspberry mixed in. However, when the fruit first went through the mixer, it was squashed by the gear pump – in effect producing ‘pink’ chocolate Easter eggs.”

With Easter one of the company’s peak production periods, a quick fire solution was needed. The company requested the trial of an MR125 model.

“It was immediately apparent that it ticked all of our boxes,” says Mr Barwick. “Not only did it not damage the product – even subsequently introduced biscuit pieces were damage-free – it was also exceptionally easy to maintain and clean.”

The MR series is a range of medium duty sanitary pumps offering flow rates up to 91,000 litres per hour and pressures up to 10.3 bar.

With the MR125 operating trouble-free for the past four years, a more recent project was always likely to see a second Masosine pump introduced at the Fakenham site.

“We wanted to establish an in-house caramel production line. The one problem with caramel is that it’s very viscous when cool and can cause problems for certain pumps. However, we were confident that a Masosine pump would be up to the task,” says Mr Barwick.

Watson-Marlow recommended a Masosine SPS 2 sanitary/industrial pump. With a capacity up to 4,000 litres per hour and pressures up to 15 bar, the SPS is ideal for viscous applications such as caramel, gelatine and glucose, as well as industrial products such silicones, adhesives and polymers.

“We have three SPS 2 pumps on site, and not only do these handle the pumping requirements without a problem, they are incredibly easy to clean,” says Mr Barwick. “Even after pumping glucose, a simple flush-through with water is all that is required.”

  • FLOODING WASHING PLANT

This plant, planned by Ceever and distributed to the greatest subcontractors of the sector, can be considered as the definitive solution all the problem of washing of particulars, before and after the thermal treatment (nitriding, carburizing, turning off in oil, etc.).
The plant is constituted by an unique chamber in which, on precise requirement of the client, it is possible to contemporarily effect bath and spray treatment. The strong turbulence, produced by ramps of spraying that operate an under level flushing at high washing power
The plant, that operates in automatic, is equipped with a particular separator of oil. During the treatment the ramps, set on the four sides of the cabin, have an angle of oscillation of about 70°, contemporarily the trolley stirs in longitudinal sense with an alternate movement in the same cabin. This solution allows to cover all the points of the pieces in treatment using low powers of pumping and heating.

  • Self-locking CLUFIX®

Choosing between productivity and anti-loosening is a thing of the past !

Do you need your assemblies to stay tight and resist vibrations ?

There are a great many plastic-based solutions on the market, most of which comprise either a coated stud or a nut with a nylon collar. These products enable a fastener system to remain tight, even where there is vibration.

Would you like your fastener solutions to be economical and easy to fit ?

Because such solutions do in general become ineffective as soon as they have been dismantled, changing the stud or nut incorporating the locking solution is recommended each time dismantling is necessary.
Furthermore, the systems incorporated to stud- or nut-type components generate additional fitting costs (fitting may cost up to five times as much as the component itself)

LA CLUSIENNE-CLUFIX offers you the best of both worlds by incorporating an elastic (as opposed to plastic) locking solution in its CLUFIX® blind rivet nuts, at once guaranteeing
    – Fast fitting, thanks to the blind rivet nut concept
    – Effective locking which will continue to play its role even after it has been taken apart and put back together five times (compliant with the ISO 2320 standard)

  • RT Strobe 5000 – stationary high-end stroboscope

With the RT Strobe 5000, Rheintacho is extending its range of stationary stroboscopes. The main differences between this device and the RT Strobe 3000 that has been on the market for 12 months now are the significantly increased flash energy and an optimal combination of flash tube and reflector for an illumination range of 500mm x 250mm.
This means that Rheintacho is now offering the RT Strobe 3000 for web-widths up to 350mm and the RT Strobe 5000 for web-widths up to 500mm. Wider inspection areas can be achieved by using a combination of several of these stroboscopes and synchronising them with one control unit.

The RT Strobe 5000 has impressive technical data:
    – illuminance 1500 lux @ 6000 FPM @ 30cm
    – flash energy 3000mJ @ 1000 FPM
    – flash duration < 20µs - flash frequency 30–12500 flashes per minute (FPM) - optimised for low flash frequency (3000mJ @ 1000 FPM) - illuminance can be adjusted manually on the device itself One particularly significant feature of the RT Strobe 5000 is its uniformly-lit illumination surface (centrally 500x250mm). The light is provided by a XENON linear tube. The very short flash duration, below 20µs, delivers extremely focused and detailed images. The device's sturdy aluminium housing has various mounting threads on its base. Optional extras include tripods, stable pivoting supports and a wide selection of optical sensors. Two sockets are located on the back of the device for the power supply and control signals. Largely identical to the RT Strobe 3000, the RT Strobe 5000 is very easy to operate. The device is controlled either directly via the system that is being observed or with the "RT Strobe control" or the "RT Strobe ECO control" control units. It is possible to control the illuminance even for the standard version of the RT Strobe 5000. With the stroboscope RT Strobe 5000, the RT Strobe 3000 and the stroboscope control units, RT Strobe control and RT Strobe ECO control, Rheintacho Messtechnik is now offering a complete range of stationary stroboscopes that offer the user outstanding performance and impressive ease of use. • New wall mounting sets for Windows CE and eXP based Web-Panels

There are many reasons to use a Web-Panel instead of a standard PC. The slight additional cost of purchase is repaid many times over by added value in functionality and a longer life cycle. A Web-Panel on the wall takes up no room and needs no table. Nobody can manipulate it inadvertently (added software, etc.) or simply carry it off. Web-Panels are designed for permanent operation, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new Windows-based SaiaPCD Web-Panels with their special, energy saving LX800 processor even do without a noisy, service-prone fan. This makes them ideally suited to wall mounting – even in living areas. To enable wall mounting in next to no time, Saia-Burgess now offers Web-Panels in the form of a wall mounting set. It consists of a wall mounting box, a specially adjusted panel for wall mounting with a particularly flat profile, and a snap-on front frame in aluminium. For individualized interiors, a simple metal support can be ordered instead of the standard frame. This can then be fitted with any conceivable material, such as wood (to match furnishings), metal, glass or even stone. The mounting set concept has been well thought through and devices are easy to install. Another advantage of SaiaPCD Windows Web-Panels is the fact that they are delivered “ready-to-go”: no laborious Windows configuration or Java updates are needed and a convenient configuration manager enormously simplifies commissioning and service.

Mounting sets are equally suitable for flush mounting in both drywalls and masonry. The new colour TFT panels are available in 10“/12“/15“, with a resolution of 800×600 or 1024×768 and are supplied with Windows CE 6.0 or Windows XP embedded. They have two Ethernet and USB interfaces each, plus one serial RS232 and PS/2 connection.

  • SaiaPCD Web-HMI system with Bluetooth

It is a particular strength of web HMI technology that any preferred device with an integral browser can be used as the control and display unit. Until recently, however, there was a certain disadvantage in having to deal with IP addresses, even for simple point-to-point applications. In addition, connection to PDAs and mobile telephones was only possible with the help of a wireless network infrastructure. With the introduction of the Bluetooth option for all SaiaPCD automation devices, Saia-Burgess has now taken a further important step in innovation.

It is now possible for SaiaPCD Web-Panels (3.5“-10“) and all Bluetooth-capable devices with browsers to have one-to-one connection to SaiaPCD controllers, even without a network structure or IP handling. Bluetooth has been integrated so well in this case that the control box door represents a “transparent” barrier and can therefore actually remain closed.
