  • Remote Calibrator For Combustible Gas Detectors Eases Plant Upkeep, Saves Time

Ideal for Drilling Rigs, Compressor Stations, Refineries, Aircraft Hangars, Warehouses & More

The new Remote Gas Calibrator for the IR400 Infrared Point Gas Detector from General Monitors simplifies the time-consuming process of performing combustible gas detector calibration tests and checks.

Some gases are lighter than air, and for this reason it is common practice to install IR gas detectors in ceilings, ducts, and other spaces where gas accumulation occurs. Performing routine maintenance on these devices, however, is often difficult and requires scaffolding, ladders, or lifts to bring technicians to the detectors.

The new RGC-IR remote calibrator makes it much easier to calibrate remote mounted infrared gas detectors. It permits users to test and calibrate the IR400 and its predecessor, the IR2100, from as far away as 100 feet (31 meters). The RGC-IR does not affect sensor response, as evidenced by T50 response times of 6 – 7 seconds and T90 response times of 10 seconds and is suitable for operation at maximum air velocities of 13 meters/second (30 miles/hour).

The RGC-IR, along with the IR400 gas detector, is suitable for a wide range of applications including drilling rigs, compressor stations and refineries. Easy to install and use, the RGC-IR requires no electrical wiring or connectors.

  • Sonobond’s Dual Head Ultrasonic Wire Splicer Exhibited at Milwaukee Expo

WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania, March 24, 2010–Melissa Alleman, Vice President of Sonobond Ultrasonics, announced today that the company’s Dual Head SpliceRite™ Ultrasonic Wire Splicer will be exhibited at the National Electrical Wire Processing Technology Expo, May 12-13, 2010. In discussing the upcoming event, Ms. Alleman said, “Sonobond is very proud and pleased to make this breakthrough equipment available for Expo attendees to see. The unit made quite an impression when introduced at last year’s event. We encourage those coming to Milwaukee this year to stop and see us at Booth #1513 in the Midwest Airlines Center. I know visitors will be impressed by the ability of the Dual Head SpliceRite™ to comfortably weld wire bundles with cross-sectional areas of up to 100 square millimeters. This same unit also accommodates tinned or heavily oxidized wires that might otherwise stall the welding process. No other ultrasonic welder can accomplish this in a single pulse.”
In discussing the growing demand for Sonobond’s Dual Head SpliceRite™ Wire Splicer, Vice President Alleman said, “Because of this unit’s unique capabilities, manufacturers are finding it especially suitable for applications involving the heavy cables used for cars, trucks, and industrial machinery.”
Ultrasonic welding offers important advantages to manufacturers. It creates solid-state metallurgical bonds without the need for filler metal materials or for clipping, soldering, crimping, or dipping. The welding process is also accomplished without producing arcs, sparks, or fumes and without melting wires.
The Dual Head SpliceRite™ Ultrasonic Wire Splicer — like other Sonobond metal spot welders — utilizes the patented Wedge-Reed system. This system combines high vibratory force with low amplitude coupling. During the welding process, the unit directs high frequency energy via the welding tip to the surface between the metals to be bonded. The vibratory energy disperses the oxides and surface films, creating a true metallurgical weld. There is no melting of materials. In addition to creating a very reliable bond, the process is environmentally friendly, produces no waste, and consumes minimal energy.
True to its name, the Dual Head SpliceRite™ Ultrasonic Wire Splicer has two welding heads, one on each side of the weld area. As a result, larger wire bundles — those up to 100 square millimeters — can be spliced in just one quick step.

  • New Protection for Gas Analysers

Herentals, March, 2010 – General chemical industries use gas analysers to monitor their gas emission levels. Air quality samples are compared to high purity reference gases to analyse and measure the emissions. A common practice is to “calibrate” the sample air against clean, dry pure reference gases such as H2, He, Ar, or N2 where the pressures in gas analyses are typically 100 barg and above.

Operating at these elevated pressures, reliable protection mechanisms become crucial. Historically gas analysers use pressure regulators to reduce the pressure and combined with a safety relief valve (SRV) to avoid structural damage and risk for personnel operating the gas analysis panels or working nearby. This system however can be tampered with and is not always reliable, reducing the safety and the accuracy of a correct gas analysis. Also Safety Relief Valves may leak and do require frequent calibration resulting in hidden costs.

To provide the industry with reliable, trouble-free protection for gas analysers, Fike has designed a new, innovative concept to regulate and reduce the pressure. With Fike’s expert knowledge in the development of bursting discs (rupture discs) for pressure relief, Fike developed an easy-to-use, in-line unit, in use and proven at several international companies.

Features of this innovative Fike gas analyser unit include:

    • Integrated, calibrated pressure reducer that cannot be tampered with
    • Integral high quality, leak-tight pressure relief device
    • Available in a wide range of materials of construction, sizes and flow ratings
    • Virtually maintenance free
    • PED compliant
    • Compact, “Plug & Play”-design
