  • Man Cannonballs Manatee, Posts Video To Facebook

Florida wildlife officials are investigating a video posted to Facebook last year that shows a man jumping into a body of water…right on top of a manatee which was swimming with another of its kind. Investigators believe they are a mother and calf.

The man can be heard laughing with his friends–who apparently baited the manatees by running fresh water from a hose–right before he jumps onto the creatures. The men could face a $25,000 fine for violating the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act, a misdemeanor.

“It’s sad,” FWC Officer Lenny Salberg said. “Here you have a manatee just swimming down a canal not hurting anyone. To actually go out of your way to harm them, what would make you want to do that?”

  • Canseco Tweets Rape Charge, Is Suspect Of Investigation

Jose Canseco has a wonderfully demented Twitter account, which boasts over half a million followers. But things got more scary/sad-demented than funny-demented this week when he tweeted out that he’s being accused of rape and is the subject of an investigation.

The ex-baseball great, who made news just yesterday when it was announced he’ll be moving to Texas to play/coach for the Fort Worth Cats, has deleted the tweets above from his account but did post this one today:

Las Vegas police say they won’t reveal any details since it is an open investigation, but they have confirmed that Canseco is indeed a suspect in the case. Now, he’s drawing the ire of many who can’t believe he would post the name of the woman on a social network.

  • Marilyn Monroe Photos Stolen Before Exhibition

Photos of Marilyn Monroe which were supposed to go on exhibit at Prague Castle have been stolen, along with display cases and mannequins that were also to be included in the event.

The items were collected by Italian museum creators last year in tribute to the 50th anniversary of Monroe’s death and included the star’s shoes, clothing, and diaries. Those in charge of the exhibition have not decided whether they will go on with the Prague show; it’s scheduled to move on to Tokyo soon, however.

Monroe was one of the most photographed women in the world at the height of her fame; several pictures of her taken by friend and makeup artist Allan Snyder were auctioned off last year for a pretty penny. The movie star and beauty icon still holds our fascination, even decades after her death, and the PR firm handling the exhibition hopes to catch whoever nabbed the items so that they may be shared with the world.

  • Gosling Film Booed At Cannes Film Festival

Ryan Gosling is a well-known Golden God these days, so it comes as a surprise that his film, “Only God Forgives”, was met not only with mixed reviews at Cannes this week, it was actually booed by the audience.

Gosling couldn’t attend the festival this year because of a commitment to “How To Catch A Monster”, which he’s directing right now in Detroit. Luckily, he wasn’t there to hear the bad reaction, because I’m willing to bet there’s nothing sadder than a sad Ryan Gosling.

“Can’t believe I’m not In Cannes,” Gosling wrote in a note to Cannes director Thierry Fremaux. “I was hoping to come but I’m on week three shooting my film in Detroit. Miss you all. Nicolas, my friend, we really are the same person in different dimensions. I’m sending you good vibrations.”

    The movie is

described as a bloody noir, about a boxing club owner whose mother wants him to avenge his brother’s murder. It is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who paired up with Gosling for “Drive”. That film won him the Best Director prize in 2011. This year, he’s not having such luck. Some viewers said they were turned off by the graphic violence in the movie.

“Art is an act of violence,” Refn said. “Art is about penetration. … I approach things very much like a pornographer. It’s about what arouses me. And certain things turn me on more than other stuff, and I can’t supress that. … I have surely a fetish for violent emotion and violent images and I can’t explain where it comes from.”

  • Farrah Abraham: New Show In The Works

Farrah Abraham, former “Teen Mom” star, is working on getting her own reality show soon and is moving to L.A. to focus on her career.

The 21-year old just released a hugely successful sex tape to boost her career and now says she’s got big plans in the works. She tweeted the news recently, saying, “Get ready for better TV. The news is true.”

“There are a lot of meetings for a spin off show with me right now, so I just need to see what I like. I have had other leads in the past when I got out of my contract with MTV, but I haven’t found anything I agree with yet but when the time is right I’ll be OK with that,” she says.

But her goals are much bigger than just a reality show. After being arrested on suspicion of DUI in March, she said she wants to help others avoid her mistakes. She also said she’s not planning on getting into the sex biz just because she put out a video with porn star James Deen.

“I’m not choosing that life. I’m getting an online master’s in business communication and I want to open a modern fusion restaurant in Austin that has a drunk driving campaign to help people make good choices,” she says. “I really want to change the world.”

  • Kim K. Shower Invite Comes In Kanye Music Box

Kim Kardashian and her family have been accused in the past of doing things just for media attention and for show ratings; her 72-day marriage to basketball player Kris Humphries was highly publicized because of the huge, extravagant wedding which was trumped up for an episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”. Many thought she only went through with the wedding for the show.

While there’s no proof that’s true, sometimes Kim does things that seem specifically targeted to get the most attention in the media. Regular old paper baby shower invites? Not for her. She opted for a music box that plays beau Kanye West’s “Hey Mama” and features a twirling ballerina that looks suspiciously like her.

Kim is due this summer; no word yet on whether the baby’s name will fit the “K” scheme.

  • Dog Guards Owner’s Body After Tornado

In a heart-wrenching story out of Oklahoma, a tiny black dog which was discovered alive among the wreckage was actually guarding the body of its owner, who had died in the F-5 stage tornado that leveled a good part of Moore.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department posted a photo of the dog before they realized what was going on; now, the photo has gone viral and the pup will be adopted by the deputy.

“May 20, 2013 we posted this picture of a dog on our Twitter account “scared, but this little pup survived”,” the department posted on their Facebook account. “Today we found out the story behind the picture. The dog was standing guard over a deceased individual, possibly it’s owner, in Moore following the tornado there. The dog was taken to a shelter and the deputy who found the pup, if possible, plans on adopting the dog. Man’s best friend to the end.”

The stories coming out of Moore, Oklahoma are tragic and heartbreaking as we hear tales of children losing their lives and parents awaiting word on whether their kids made it out of the storm alive. Some bright spots can be found, however, such as the woman who was reunited with her dog as she gave an interview on camera.

  • Arias: “I’ll Donate My Hair” Plea To Win Over Jurors?

Jodi Arias has done a complete 180 turn from where she was just a couple of weeks ago in her pleas to the jury.

The accused murderer recently said she would rather have the death penalty for the murder of her boyfriend, Travis Alexander, than life in prison.

“I said years ago that I’d rather get death than life, and that still is true today,” she said. “I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I’d rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.”

Arias has undergone a lengthy trial for the murder of Alexander, who was found dead in his home in 2008 with gunshot and stab wounds. His throat was also slit. Arias eventually admitted to killing her boyfriend, but said she did it in self defense after he attacked her. Defense attorneys painted a picture of a young woman so in love that she wrote poetry and had steamy phone conversations with him, which were admitted into courtroom testimony. But the jury remained unconvinced, finding her guilty of first degree murder, which carries a sentence of either life in prison or the death penalty. The jurors still have to decide what to do, and whether or not Alexander was killed in an “exceptionally cruel” way.

Arias says she has recently learned that life in prison doesn’t have to mean no life at all, and promises to help others if she’s spared.

“I didn’t know then that if I got life instead of death that I could become employed and self-reliant. I didn’t know that if I got life there are many things I can do to affect positive change and contribute in a meaningful way. In prison there are programs I can start and people I can help.” said Arias.

Among her goals? Donating her hair to cancer survivors, creating prison literacy programs, and donating the proceeds from her “Survivor” t-shirts to victims of domestic violence.

“Some people may not believe that I am a survivor of domestic violence. They are entitled to their opinion. I’m supporting this cause because it’s very, very important to me,” she said.

  • 2-Way Mirror In Nightclub Bathroom Gets Police Attention

A nightclub in Glasgow, Scotland is under investigation after the Scottish Express released an article claiming some of their staffers had seen photos of men posing in front of a two-way mirror while women used the bathroom behind them. The club owners reportedly rent out two rooms on the other side of the mirror where groups of people can sit and watch.

A woman who has attended The Shimmy Club said, “I was completely shocked to discover that the mirror in the ladies’ bathroom is a two-way mirror facing out onto the club. I find it absolutely outrageous that a club can get away with this, it is a complete invasion of privacy of the unsuspecting girls. Nowhere is it made clear that this is the case so when visiting the bathroom for the first time, there are women bending over the sink, pouting into the mirror to redo their lipstick, adjusting themselves whilst unknowingly being watched by people on the other side.”

Indeed, the owners say they just installed the mirror for a bit of fun, and that signage was posted informing anyone using the restrooms that they were being watched; however, they have updated the signage to make it clearer. The club posted to their Facebook page:

The Shimmy Club’s two-way mirror is a design feature created as a bit of fun, an interactive feature which we hoped would act as a talking point for people visiting The Shimmy. The vast majority of people who have visited the club have taken it as such. Its clear that those who are negatively commenting on line may not have been lucky enough to get past the door staff yet and viewed the area as they would have seen that the sight line is very limited and allows for glimpses into the wash up area only of the ladies loos (there is also a separate mirror area which is completely out of view of the club). Interestingly, you can see into a similar area of both the ladies and gents from the street at Corinthian Club and no-one has ever said a word. There has always been signage in the toilets which no-one has mentioned thus far but as a result of the media feedback clearer signage has been put in place to inform our female customers.

Overall our customers seem to enjoy this unique idea, loads of you have used the opportunity as it was intended and knowingly had pictures taken acting up to the camera individually or in a group of friends. However we are committed to listening to you guys who are our core customer base and hugely appreciate your loyalty so if your feedback (and not that of the media) is that you want the mirror area to change then we will listen to that and make changes.

God help us when they find out that we have buried vibrators into sections of the dancefloor……………

The Glasgow police have now launched an investigation into the matter.

  • Pitt Says No To Sex Scenes Out Of Respect

Brad Pitt is still madly in love with Angelina Jolie, and apparently he shows it by refusing to simulate knocking boots in his films.

Pitt’s friend Frank Pollaro is quoted in the new issue of Esquire Magazine as saying, “Once I walked in and Angie was standing there and [Brange’s eight-year-old daughter] Zahara walked up and said, ‘Daddy, you’re not going to start making out with Mommy again, are you?’ And it’s like that. This is a guy who has tried not to do any sexy scenes with other women since he’s met Angelina. He’s crazy about her, and she’s the same way about him.”

Indeed, Pitt talked about his family life and says he’s happiest when he’s home, surrounded by the sounds of his children and the loving arms of his lady.

“I have very few friends. I have a handful of close friends and I have my family and I haven’t known life to be any happier,” he said. “I’m making things. I just haven’t known life to be any happier…I always thought that if I wanted to do a family, I wanted to do it big. I wanted there to be chaos in the house… there’s constant chatter in our house, whether it’s giggling or screaming or crying or banging. I love it. I love it. I love it. I hate it when they’re gone. I hate it. Maybe it’s nice to be in a hotel room for a day – ‘Oh, nice, I can finally read a paper.’ But then, by the next day, I miss that cacophony, all that life.”

Pitt made headlines this week after the issue came out and speculation began about a quote from the interview, in which he talked about his past…ten years ago. When he just happened to be with ex Jennifer Aniston.

“I’d get so far and then want to do something else. I mean, I’m two credits short of graduating college. Two credits. All I had to do was write a paper. What kind of guy is that? That guy scares me – the guy who always leaves a little on his plate. For a long time I thought I did too much damage – drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing. I spent years f–king off. But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany – a decision not to squander my opportunities. It was a feeling of get up. Because otherwise, what’s the point?”

  • Tucson Photos Released Of Shooting Scene

Nearly 600 photos have been released related to the 2011 Arizona shooting, which killed six people and severely wounded then-Rep. Gabby Giffords.

Police say that most of the pictures of the victims have not been included. Instead, they show shooter Jared Lee Loughner’s motel room, cell phones, and the guns and ammunition he used in the attack. He was found to have two magazines that held up to 31 bullets, two 15-round magazines, and a 4-inch knife among other things on his person.

In November, Loughner was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences plus 140 years after he pleaded guilty to the federal charges against him. The photos, plus thousands of pages of reports, were released due to his sentencing. Also released were photos of the crime scene directly after police arrived, which show bullet fragments found on the ground and a police cruiser which was turned into a makeshift whiteboard so officers could scrawl notes on it.

Loughner showed up at a grocery store in Tucson that day and opened fire into the crowd that had gathered for a meet-and-greet with Giffords. She was shot in the head and suffered severe injuries which took months to recover from; as of today, she’s had no comment on the release of the photos.

  • Pauly D: New Hair Channels Gatsby

Pauly D of “Jersey Shore” fame debuted a new look on Instagram this week, and it fairly screams Gatsby.

The 32-year old reality star and DJ threw on a suit and tie and slicked his hair down, and the result was like someone from another era. Pauly–whose real name is Paul Delvecchio–even compared himself to the subject of the new movie.

“The Great DJGatsby!” he wrote on Instagram.

Pauly D has been known for his spiky ‘do for years now, and says lots of people have tried to imitate it and just can’t make it.

“A lot of people try to do the same hair style, but they can’t really do it right,” he said. “Mine definitely stands out.

He does look dapper with it slicked back, but no doubt he’ll have it spiked again before long; it’s his signature look.

  • Tsarnaev: Friend Killed In Orlando Shooting By FBI

A man who was shot and killed early this morning in Orlando has reportedly been identified as Ibragim Todashev, who was one of the men questioned in connection to the Boston bombings.

Khusn Taramiv, who was friends with Todashev, says the two of them were taken in for questioning at an apartment building and that he was released after three hours, but the FBI agents allegedly told him they needed to speak with Todashev further. He never saw his friend again, he says.

“(The FBI) took me and my friend, the suspect that got killed. They were talking to us, both of us, right? And they said they need him for a little more, for a couple more hours, and I left, and they told me they’re going to bring him back. They never brought him back,” Taramiv said. “He felt inside he was going to get shot. I told him, ‘Everything is going to be fine, don’t worry about it.’ He said, ‘I have a really bad feeling.’”

The men were being questioned regarding their knowledge of the bombings and how they knew Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in a gunfight with police shortly after the bombings that killed three people and wounded more than 250. Taramiv has spoken to several media outlets about the death of his friend, but officials aren’t releasing details at this time.

“The agent encountered the suspect while conducting official duties,” said Dave Couvertier, FBI spokesman. “We are still gathering facts involving the shooting incident.”

  • Ang Lee Quits Pilot, Says He’s Tired

Ang Lee, who spent the last several years on one project, says he has to back out of helming the pilot for the new television series “Tyrant”.

“It is with disappointment that I must confirm I have withdrawn from my commitment to direct the upcoming FX pilot ‘Tyrant,’” he said in a statement. “It is one of the most brilliant ideas for a series that I’ve seen and one about which I was very excited. However, after spending over four years making and promoting ‘Life of Pi,’ I have recently realized that I need some rest. Because I cannot give 100 percent to this exciting project at this time, I cannot allow myself to do anything that may affect the potential for this exciting new series. I wish Fox 21 and FX the best with this remarkable project.”

Lee also cites other commitments as reasons for the pullout; he is currently serving as a juror at the Cannes Film Festival, among other things.

“Tyrant” tells the story of an American family who gets caught up in the stormy Middle East. Production is supposed to begin this summer, but the cast has yet to be announced.

  • O.J.: Ex-Girlfriend Talks About Incriminating Threats

O.J. Simpson has captured the fascination of millions over the years; as the former football hero-turned-actor who ran from police in a now infamous highway chase after the murder of his wife, his story seemed like something out of a movie. But the reality behind the calm courtroom facade he carried was all too real for his ex-girlfriend, who says he constantly compared her to his slain wife.

“It was very hard to deal with that everyday, comparing me to Nicole. ‘Nicole did this, Nicole did that. You should do this, that’s what she did,’” Christie Prody said. “I was young, and so he could try to shape me, mold me, into what he wanted. He would say things to me like, ‘You better watch out so something bad doesn’t happen to you like Nicole.’”

Prody stayed with Simpson for twelve years after they began dating when she was just 21. She says he made her dye her hair blonde (Nicole Brown-Simpson was a blonde) and, because she was so young, she did what he said in order to please him. She says that his court appearance last week–which was a hearing granted to try and overturn his 2008 robbery conviction–was the first time she’d seen him in years, and his puffy appearance surprised her.

“I had to take a double take,” she said. “I can’t believe he’s gotten a lot bigger and very grey since I last saw him. Image was the most important thing to him. Being good looking was important to him. And even more so, the girl on his arm had to be good looking.”

She says that despite his altered appearance, he’s still the same guy deep down.

“O.J. is very charming,” she said. “He’s very charming and he tells you what you want to hear. He’s very believable.”

  • McCarthy Fires Extra Over Child Abuse On Set

Melissa McCarthy has reportedly fired an extra from the set of her latest film, “Tammy”, because the woman was abusing her child.

The woman brought her child to the outdoor shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina and reportedly had trouble disciplining him all day. Witnesses say he disrupted the set and his mother couldn’t control him, and at one point she reached down, grabbed his arm, and picked him up by the wrist. McCarthy allegedly fired the woman and told her that abuse of any kind would not be tolerated.

McCarthy is co-directing the film with her husband as well as starring in it as Tammy, a woman who gets fired from her job only to come home and catch her husband cheating on her. The film is a passion project for McCarthy, who also co-wrote the screenplay. She spoke a little about the movie and her scenes with Susan Sarandon, who plays her character’s grandmother and road-trip buddy.

“They both have their issues they’re not acknowledging and they’re leaving town without knowing where they’re going,” McCarthy said. “I love that there’s something that happens in a car with people where all bets off. You’re off your rhythm, off your schedule, you’re forced to be completely adaptable or die.”

So far, McCarthy has had no comment about the extra’s termination.

  • Zeta-Jones: Bipolar Treatment Nears An End

Catherine Zeta-Jones announced last month that she would be entering treatment for bipolar disorder, and now the 43-year old actress is about to be released from a health care facility.

Zeta-Jones has sought treatment before a couple of years ago, which prompted her to go public with her struggle despite the potential negative affect it could have had on her career.

“This is a disorder that affects millions of people, and I am one of them,” she said. “If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it…There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”

The actress was praised by husband Michael Douglas recently, who spoke about her while promoting a film at Cannes.

“She comes home tomorrow,” Douglas said. “She’s doing a really good job of getting balanced. I’m proud of her.”

Zeta-Jones spoke candidly about the disorder to InStyle Magazine last December, saying she hopes to remove the stigma attached to the word.

“It’s not easy. I’m not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops, but with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow sufferers will know it’s completely controllable,” she said. “I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don’t have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.”

  • Darius Rucker: Racist Tweet Garners Disbelief

Darius Rucker, formerly of Hootie And The Blowfish, has found a hit in his version of the old Dylan song “Wagon Wheel”. But some aren’t impressed with his rendition, apparently, and one naysayer took to Twitter to call him out on his move to country in a pretty despicable way.

User PQKullman wrote, “Leave country to the white folk,” to which Rucker replied, “WOW… is this 2013 or 1913? Ill take my grand ole Opry membership and leave your racism. Wow.”

It’s unfortunate that Rucker had to be on the receiving end of such a negative country fan, but he appears to be taking it all in stride. He later tweeted:

When one of Rucker’s followers commented, “Bet he wouldn’t say that to Nelly’s face,” Rucker shot back, “?Wouldn’t say it to mine, either.” And he makes a good point; social media sites, while good places to connect with people, are also havens for those who know they can hide behind a screen name. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though cyber-bullies will be going away anytime soon.

  • Canseco To Play Again In Texas Starting This Week

Jose Canseco has been out of the game for a while, but he’s anxious to get back in (as anyone who’s been following his Twitter feed will know). As of Thursday, he’ll get his wish.

The former Bash Brother will begin his stint with the Fort Worth Cats as a player and a coach. The first game, coincidentally, will be against Edinburg, which is managed by his brother Ozzie.

“I am excited to come to Fort Worth and mentor the young ballplayers,” Canseco said in a statement. “I love Dallas/Fort Worth and I can’t wait to go up against Ozzie.”

Canseco fell out of the spotlight a bit after a much-publicized bout with steroids and has been using his time out of the Major Leagues to pursue other interests–like writing for Vice Magazine–and to gain a following on Twitter, where he posts gems about his life and future goals.

It’s unclear if Canseco will continue on his new path in Fort Worth after this season, but fans are sure to fill the seats once word gets out that the former Oakland A’s hitter will be on the field again.

  • January Jones: Son’s Father Is No One’s Business

January Jones, star of “Mad Men”, has said she refuses to give away the identity of the man who fathered her son, Xander, because it’s no one’s business.

The 35-year old actress says she’s just heeding advice from Jack Nicholson.

“Jack Nicholson once told me: ‘You should never give your personal life away, otherwise people will pick you apart. They’ll never believe in your character,’” Jones said.

Jones has taken some flack in the past–and most recently in a New York Times piece–for being “cold”, much like her “Mad Men” character Betty Draper. The fact that she doesn’t want people prying into her personal life seems to be at the root of her reputation, though she isn’t alone in her preferences. Many stars who spend a lot of time in the public eye would rather keep quiet about their relationships and family, and who can blame them?

“I’m not trying to sell myself,” Jones said. “I wouldn’t know how.”
