Miss USA Rima Fakih On Pole-Dancing Pics: “I Didn’t Do Anything Wrong”
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih dropped by The TODAY Show this morning, and after exchanging a few pleasantries, Matt & Meredith went in for the kill. The anchor wasted no time quizzing the beauty on controversial pictures that have leaked of the former Miss Michigan participating in what appears to be a pole-dancing contest.
On Monday, Detroit radio show “Mojo In The Morning” published pictures of Fakih performing a striptease during a 2007 station-sponsored event. The 24-year-old Kardashian doppleganger beat out 50 other women to win the competition.
“The strippers there taught the contestants how to do moves like ‘booty poppin’ and pole dancing. Rima told us at the time that she was a model — and her routine was awesome! She definitely deserved to win,” head DJ Mojo said of the brewing controversy. “We got phone calls from the Miss USA people and they’re pissed off! We asked if Rima’s going to be in trouble over these photos, and they would not comment on it. We would hope she won’t lose her title…”
Rima, on the other hand, maintains that the pictures were actually taken during a promotional event hosted by a friend. She denies any wrongdoing.

Drew Barrymore “The Wizard Of Oz” Sequel Director “Surrender Dorothy”

Drew Barrymore has been commissioned to direct the buzzed-about upcoming sequel to the 1939 cinema classic The Wizard of Oz.
The beloved ex-child star made her directorial debut in the 2009 roller derby flick Whip It. Now she’s set to step behind the camera once again for Warner Bros.’ box office-bound fantasy epic Surrender Dorothy, London’s Daily Telegraph dished on Wednesday.
The movie follows the great, great granddaughter of Dorothy who has to learn how to use the power of her ruby red slippers to keep The Wicked Witch of the West from taking control of Earth and Oz. Based on a script by Zach Helm, Drew was originally set to star in the project before it was shelved by studio bosses in 2002. Robert Downey Jr. is among the stars being courted for the Oz update.
The Yellow Brick Road isn’t the only cinema staple being reimagined for the modern-day silver screen. On Tuesday, Deadline.com reported that Disney plopped down a massive seven figures for a new, live-action remake of Cinderella, written by The Devil Wears Prada scriptwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.

Campbell Brown Exits CNN Amid Weak Ratings

It’s official: Campbell Brown is done at CNN.
The reporter is giving up her post at the network — and not because she simply wants to spend more time with her family.
The “No Bias, No Bull” anchorwoman announced Tuesday that weak ratings have fueled her decision to step down as primetime host at the struggling network. Brown said she could say she was leaving to spend more time with her two young children or pursue new opportunities, and both would be partly true.
“But I have never had much tolerance for others’ spin, so I can’t imagine trying to stomach my own,” she said. “The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else.”
Campbell was regularly bulldozed in the ratings. Brown’s time slot is dominated by Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly, who is averaging 3.3 million viewers this year, and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who has about 1 million viewers.
The 41-year-old mother of two is married to former foreign policy advisor Dan Senor. She spent 11 years at NBC News before joining CNN.

“He just really wants to get better. This has been an ongoing battle for him.”

Vogue June Covergirl Blake Lively: “I’m Going To Be The Coolest Aunt Ever!”

Blake Lively makes her blockbuster action flick debut alongside Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern, set to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
The comic book movie role is quite a departure from what Lively is used to playing blonde bombshell Serena van der Woodsen on the tube, but Blake admits she has selfish reasons for wanting to take on the high-octane action scenes in the upcoming feature:
“All I want is to be a hero to my nephews and nieces,” Blake said in an interview with the June 2010 issue of Vogue. “I’m going to be the coolest aunt ever.”
She continued: “I’m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That’s the best workout you can ever do because it’s all core. You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day! It’s so exhilarating, so thrilling—and nauseating.”

Salma Hayek Is Now Salma Hayek Pinault

Say hello to Salma Hayek Pinault. In a revealing chat with the June issue of In Style Magazine, the Mexican-born actress and former Ugly Betty producer reveals that she has adopted the surname of her husband, French businessman Francios-Henri Pinault.
Salma, 43, says it was the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Valentina, who inspired her to embrace the change.
“It was Valentina’s request. I didn’t think about it until she brought it up,” Salma told the mag. “We were shooting a film and she saw my chair with my name on it. She said, ‘What does it say there?’ And I said, ‘Salma Hayek.’ And she said, ‘What about Pinault? Why not Pinault?’ Because here people say ‘Madame Pinault.’ I said to myself, ‘This is who I am now. I’m starting a whole new life. I’ve never been happier. Why shouldn’t I share it with the people who have been supporting me my whole career, who have been with me since the beginning?’”

Justin Bieber BET Awards 2010 Nomination — “Baby” Crooner Up For Best New Artist Trophy

Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber is being honored among some of music’s most prominent Black performers. On Tuesday, the baby-faced teen idol nabbed a Best New Artist nomination for next month’s BET Awards in Los Angeles.
The annual awards show, sponsored by Black Entertainment Television, typically honors the accomplishments of entertainers of color, but officials describe Bieber — a former YouTube sensation discovered by “Confessions” star Usher — as a crossover artist with talent that transcends color lines. His latest album, My World 2.0, debuted at No.1 on the Billboard charts in March.
“Bieber has crossed the color boundaries the same way that hip-hop has crossed the boundaries the other way for a number of years,” says Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programing and Specials. “He’s had rhythm in his music. He makes the type of music our audience likes.”
The 2010 BET Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah, airs live from The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on June 27.

John Travolta Kelly Preston Pregnant

Defying the odds of fertility, Grease actor John Travolta, 56, and his wife Kelly Preston, 47, are expecting their third child together, if a scoop from Star Magazine is to be believed.
“Kelly is about three months pregnant. Both she and John are absolutely over the moon — they knew in their hearts that the time was right for this to happen,” a snitching snoop blabbed to the tab.
The couple — whose dogs were tragically killed in a freak accident at a Maine airport last week — are still recovering from the seizure-induced death of their 16-year-old son Jett in 2009.
The Travoltas have a 10-year-old daughter, Ella Blue.
UPDATE: The Travoltas have confirmed the baby news. “It’s impossible to keep a secret … especially one as wonderful as this,” they said in a press statement Tuesday evening. “We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to our family. Love, John, Kelly, and Ella…”
Congrats!

Campbell Brown Leaving CNN

Is Campbell Brown leaving the sinking ship at left-leaning news syndicate CNN?
Industry snoops say so.
The anchor of CNN’s 8 PM ET broadcast has reportedly had enough of her nightly ratings war with FOX News’ Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC; she’s asked to be released from her contract with the network, The New York Times said Tuesday.
Brown has agreed to continue anchoring the broadcast until a replacement is hired.

“Cinderella” Remake In 3D

Thanks to the success of Tim Burton’s hugely successful 3D version of Alice in Wonderland, Disney has greenlit a multimillion dollar 3D live-action remake of one of the greatest love stories ever told. The studio’s 1950 animated classic Cinderella is on its way back to the silver after Disney bosses plopped down seven figures for a new screenplay based on the classic tale of a beautiful peasant who wins the heart of a prince with the help of her fairy godmother.
A live-action version of Cinderella, starring Brandy, Bernadette Peters, and Whoopi Goldberg, was adapted into a two-hour TV movie in 1998. In recent years, Hollywood has borrowed elements of the folk tale for box office efforts like Drew Barrymore’s Ever After and A Cinderella Story, featuring Hilary Duff. More recently, Tinseltown has been scrambling to bring an updated version of The Wizard of Oz to theaters — in 3D, of course.
