  • J.Sabatino – Fall 2010 Show

    j-sabatino-fw2010-1

According to J.Sabatino, this year’s Fall 2010 collection was inspired by films such as Permanent Vacation by Jim Jarmusch and Blank Generation by Ulli Lommel. The backdrop for the collection points to downtown New York City in the late 70’s/early 80’s, a time when the area was striving with artists and new creative minds. The looks pay homage to the painters, designers, sculptors, musicians, etc. who considered themselves characters of the generation, dressing in unique ways from thrifts store clothing finds, and to whatever other garb they made themselves.

  • J.C. RAGS – Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

    jc-rags-main

The denim world can only take so much of Diesel or G-Star Raw products, but if you’re looking for an alternative that has close to the similar aesthetics as these two, you might want to check out Dutch label J.C. RAGS. With a more simpler, yet cooler take on the product, RAGS understands that denim is part of a workwear culture that has existed way before the jean became the grand fashion statement it is today. There’s also a smart, utilitarian, and industrial approach to their designs, which allows the label to go beyond their denim offerings. With that said, expect other items such as shirts, outerwears, sweaters, and more under the line.

Peacoats, sailor inspired shirts, ribbed sweaters, long coats, officer suits, and even long johns all made the cut. So if you’re fashion muse just so happens to be Zack Mayo, look on to Commonwealth Utilities this fall for further wardrobe inspirations.

  • Marc by Marc Jacobs – Fall 2010 Show (With Video)

    marcbymj-fw2010-main

A bit of color has gone missing in the Marc by Marc Jacobs line this Fall/Winter for the men’s range compared to last season. What it lacks in color however, makes up for in an array of versatile looks. Olive green garb is presented as more of a militaristic addition to the collection, while blue and black gets a bit more of a formal treatment as suits and blazers. Black and white also appear in the collection to balance out the entire range with items such as trousers, flight suits, and outerwear.

  • Apolis Activism x Rapha – Transit Elite Documentary

TRANSIT ELITE from Dave Christenson on Vimeo.

As part of their Nepal Project, Apolis Activism partnered up with cycling clothiers Rapha for a special Transit Elite Sweater release. Both brands decided to document the whole process of making the sweater by capturing on video the women of Nepal who produced and knitted this special product. The film not only shines light on the humble hard workers of Nepal, but it also gives us a peak into the beautiful mountain ranges that surround the country. Luckily enough, Shea Parton of Apolis Activism and Cole Maness of Rapha were able to cycle these mountains, and it’s inspiring to see that they were able to capture the sights and sounds of the area by doing the things they’re passionate about.

  • Calvin Klein – Fall 2010 Show (With Video)

    calvinklein-fw2010-main

What was best about Calvin Klein’s collection last fall was the sci-fi feel to the clothes. A lot of the pieces, especially the outerwear, had the appearance of clean laser cut lines that almost made the whole range look flawless. This time around Calvin Klein follows up by implementing more of the futuristic looks towards the surface. Rigid embossed textures such as lines, marble print, and scratch patterns could be found on the blazers, suits, and outerwear. There’s also a certain unique luminescence to the leather products as well which sets the collection apart from the other labels this Fall 2010. If you’re version of the future is a bit more subtle, crisp, and clean, then look to the Calvin Klein range for a more intelligent spaced out wardrobe.

  • Umit Benan – “Retired Rockers” Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

    umit-benan-fw2010-main

Umit Benan channels the styles of “Retired Rockers” as inspiration for his Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. Some of the looks are reminiscent of bands like the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springstein. Put that image in your head and envision them all having a jam session. This is the mood Umit Benan is trying to convey. While the folks modeling the clothes are of age, its their style that will always live on, just like the music of Rock N’ Roll.

Continue reading for more information and images.

    UMIT BENAN
    Autumn/Winter 2010/11
    RETIRED ROCKERS
The Retired Rockers inspiring the F/W 2010-2011 collection are a group of musicians who made music history in the 1970s and ‘80s, once young and wild kids with no direction beyond rousing an entire generation to a blaring rock beat.

Umit Benan presents his vision of these old rockers – his rockers – imagining a rock band à la Rolling Stones that gets together with a few old buddies such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen and with producer Ahmet Ertegun (the man who discovered them and who, not coincidentally, shares the designer’s Turkish roots).

These rockers have had, experienced, exceeded the limits with everything: women, money, drugs. They’ve written songs part of music history. Still pals after all this time, now more than 30 years down the road they meet each month at the same old East Village club. They’re retired, they’re on in years, but have never felt better. All they care about is enjoying life, hanging out and relaxing together, sitting at the usual table at Joe’s Bar, maybe talking about old times. And so they exude a unique charm, the irresistible allure of transgressive, innately free-spirited men who have always lived on totally independent terms.

They’re in great shape, look cooler and hipper than when they were thirty. They don’t need skinny leather pants to still feel young, for they have a rock attitude that depends on who they are, not on what they wear.

No differently from their approach to life, their style is relaxed, free & easy and definitely classy.

  • U-Boat 1001 Diver Preview from Baselworld

    U-boat-Baselworld

Surely watch fans will be excited to see some of the timepieces rolling out at Baselworld next month. One model that caught our eye is the U-Boat 1001 Diver. According to Professional Watches: The 1001, before its unusual features are unveiled, will be presented to the public in an aluminium technological casket, visible only through a riveted port hole, reminiscent of a deep abyss. On opening the box, the unusual nature of the 1001 will be immediately apparent, starting with the 55-millimetre diameter grade 2 natural titanium box, with the distinctive position of the rim protection on the left, helium valve and titanium plate bearing the serial number.

Continue reading for more information and images.

    From Professional Watches:

The face is easy to read because it has hours, minutes, seconds and the date at 4 o’clock. There are supernova pigments with beige, orange or blue, which make the white U1001 writing in relief stand out.

Waterproof down to 1001 metres, owing to the anti-scratch sapphire glass which is 5.5mm thick, the 1001’s heart pulsates as a result of an automatic mechanical movement with a reserve of 40 hours.

The back is screwed on with engraved serial numbering 1001 pieces, a black non-allergic and harmless rubber strap with a titanium attachment and a deploying closing mechanism. A truly special model which brings together deep passion and avant-garde technology.

  • kiryuyrik – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

    kiryuyrik-main

We’ll be first to admit that Japanese label kiryuyrik is not for everyone, but we do however feel that there are some looks and styles in their lookbook that deserve the attention. Foremost, construction of their suits are quite interesting and there’s a certain Pulp Fiction meets Itchi the Killer vibe going on that we find entertaining. The prints and patterns might be too daring for some also, but the simple pieces such as the leather jackets, long blazers, trousers, and some of the other outerwear are really something to look after.

    mtrainierdesign-spring2010-

Outdoor outfitters, Mt. Rainier Designs just updated their website with their Spring/Summer 2010 range. In it you will find a bevy of items MRD is well known for. Some standouts that are on our radar are the Panamint Hood Vest, the Short Parka, and the Duffle and Bungee packs. There aren’t a lot of labels out there doing what MRD is doing in terms of outdoor wear production, and it’s good to see that their Spring range is something outdoor fans can be proud of.
