On Thursday, February 18, the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, Insurance, Campaign Finance, and Housing will be voting on Senate Bill 380 and Senate Bill 381 — two bills that, if passed, would have severe effects on gun owners in the Badger State. SB 380 and SB 381 are the companion bills to Assembly Bill 558 and Assembly Bill 559.

Ohio: Guns welcome in Cuyahoga Valley
Posted: 02.17.10 01:25 AMStarting Monday, visitors to the Cuyahoga Valley can carry loaded, concealed weapons in the park under a new federal law. The only proviso: Those carrying concealed weapons in the 33,000 acre federal park between Akron and Cleveland must have an Ohio permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Wyoming: Right-to-Carry bill clear House panel

Alabama: Bill introduced to protect guns in private vehicles
Posted: 02.17.10 01:27 AMThe bill states that as long as a person has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and it’s locked away, they can have a gun in their private vehicle on work property. Democratic Senator Roger Bedford introduced the bill. He says he wants folks to be able to protect themselves in case something happens while traveling to and from work.

Alabama: Tuscaloosa panel approves city building gun ban
Posted: 02.17.10 01:28 AMThe Tuscaloosa City Council Public Safety Committee voted unanimously to ban firearms from city buildings and facilities. The city already prohibits city employees, except police officers, from possessing firearms on the job. The new ordinance would ban all citizens from entering city facilities with firearms. The new ordinance must go before the full City Council for approval.

Colorado: After CSU recognized Right-to-Carry, crime dropped
Posted: 02.17.10 01:29 AMCSU has been a safer place since late 2003, one CSU student found, when it decided to allow the university community to carry concealed weapons on campus — a policy that could be holstered next Tuesday. According to a report written by senior history major Brady Allen contesting the CSU System Board of Governors’ December decision to ban concealed weapons on campus, violent crime rates at CSU have declined since 2003. And although he could not prove a direct correlation between concealed carry and good campus safety, Allen said the decreasing crime rate speaks for itself.

Nebraska: Castle doctrine
Posted: 02.17.10 01:30 AMSome state senators and the National Rifle Association want Nebraska to become the 25th state with a so called castle doctrine law that would give people more protection from prosecution or lawsuits after shooting an intruder. It’s easy to see where the impetus comes from. Most people assume that they have a right to protect their homes and families when threatened, and the circumstances of most home invasions don’t allow for a detailed interview of the intruder.

Virginia: State Senate approves two Right-to-Carry bills
Posted: 02.17.10 01:31 AMThe state Senate yesterday cleared the way for Virginians to be allowed to carry concealed guns in cars and bars. In a 22-18 vote, senators approved Senate Bill 334, which would allow people with concealed gun permits to carry their firearms into restaurants that serve alcohol. Senators also passed legislation that would allow Virginians who do not hold concealed gun carry permits to transport their handguns in a locked glove compartment or container in their car. The vote on Senate Bill 408 was 24-16, with six Democrats joining 18 Republicans to support the bill.

Missisippi: Make Your Voice Heard Against “No Hunting Zones” in Rankin County
Posted: 02.16.10 09:38 AMLate last year, the Rankin County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance prohibiting the discharge of a firearm within 500 yards (more then a quarter mile) of a platted subdivision, or hunting with a bow within 100 yards of a platted subdivision. The ordinance was passed with little notice or opportunity for affected landowners and sportsmen to express their opposition to it.
