Members of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus at Colorado State University will deliver a petition to CSU president Tony Frank this afternoon, affirming support for the university’s current policy allowing concealed weapons on campus. The petition — which has more than 1,300 signatures — is being delivered just four days before a CSU Board of Governors meeting, where it is expected the board will approve a ban on licensed concealed carry.

State police are dropping a proposal that critics complained would have banned private sales of rifles and shotguns in Connecticut. The short lived recommendation from the Department of Public Safety angered gun owners and organizations that support gun ownership. Despite the welcomed deletion, gun owners and their advocates still strongly oppose remaining provisions of the bill, including ones that would require additional notification for gun shows and reduce the time for reporting handgun sales.

An attempt to ban "military style" assault weapons died in committee despite high profile killings in Seattle last year involving such weapons. Gun rights advocates packed a Senate Judiciary committee and several senators vowed that the bill would not pass in this or any year.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today announced that effective February 22, 2010, the rules governing possession of firearms on National Wildlife Refuges will change as a result of legislation enacted by Congress. After this date, the law allows an individual to lawfully possess a firearm within the boundaries of a national wildlife refuge in accordance with federal, state and local firearms laws.

On Wednesday, State Representative Walter Wheeler (D-151) voted in favor of creating a victim disarmament zone in Acadia National Park, thus breaking the tie (7-6) in the Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice. LD1737 will now head to the Senate with a recommendation that it â??Ought to Pass.â??

Mayor Richard Lowe, a member of New York City Mayor Michael Bloombergâ??s anti-gun coalition, â??Mayors Against Illegal Gunsâ??, has introduced an ordinance that would require gun-owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 72-hours or face a fine up to $1,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail.

On Thursday, February 18, the House Committee of the Whole (COW) passed House Bill 113, legislation which would allow law-abiding persons to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense without a permit. This constitutional carry bill is expected to be heard and voted on by the full House TOMORROW, February 19. If passed, HB 113 would then be sent to the Senate for committee assignment.

A Finnish government commission on Wednesday proposed a ban on semiautomatic handguns after two school shootings in recent years left 20 people dead. The ban, which needs parliamentary approval, would sharply reduce the number of legal weapons in a country that ranks among the world’s top five in civilian gun ownership.

Liberal paranoia about gun ownership goes essentially unexamined. According to liberals, the huge increase in gun purchases that came as a consequence of Obama’s election were certain to result in a commensurate spike in gun violence. Despite these repeated predictions, the frenzy of gun violence that was supposed to erupt never occurred. In fact, gun violence has decreased.

The "Common Sense Lawful Carry" bill has gone through several changes since it was first introduced. Introduced by Sen. Mitch Seabaugh, R Sharpsburg, the bill was presented in a committee meeting that lasted nearly three hours Monday. The "committee substitute" to Senate Bill 308 incorporated changes answering some concerns that had been raised since the bill was originally introduced. "Legislation goes through a process. You can introduce a bill, but after that, a lot of fingers are in the pie," Seabaugh said following the hearing. "There is a lot of fluctuation that can happen with what goes into the legislation," he said.

Mayor Mikey is despondent over a court ruling that struck down a law banning guns in Seattle parks. Mayor Mikey’s predecessor stubbornly pushed the gun ban even after being advised that cities don’t have the legal authority to pre empt state law. Mayor Mikey’s answer? He wants the Legislature to change the law so that local governments can then decree that guns can are verboten in parks and wherever else guns might be deemed not needed.

A new law will lift the 94 year old ban on carrying loaded firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges when it goes into effect Monday. The law, passed by Congress in May as an amendment to a credit reform bill, will end the ability of the National Park Service to set its own gun carry restrictions, making each park subject to the gun laws of its home state.

On Wednesday, February 17, the State Senate amended and passed Senate File 26. SF 26 will now head to the House. NRA will continue to work to amend the additional language to SF 26 to further strengthen this important carry reform legislation.

Tomorrow, February 18, the Senate Judiciary Committee may consider Senate Bill 515. This important legislation, would prohibit and punish a person other than a law- enforcement officer who knowingly solicits, persuades, encourages or entices a firearm or ammunition dealer or private seller to violate firearm sales laws. SB 515 is intended to prevent gun dealer entrapment schemes, such as those orchestrated by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Late last year, the Rankin County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance prohibiting the discharge of a firearm within 500 yards (more than a quarter mile) of a platted subdivision, or hunting with a bow within 100 yards of a platted subdivision. The ordinance was passed with little notice or opportunity for affected landowners and sportsmen to express their opposition to it.
