Samsung Briefly Posts Galaxy S4 Mini On Its Apps Site, Adding New Credence To A Summer Release

Samsung has yet to officially confirm the Galaxy S4 mini, but the smartphone’s brief appearance on the company’s app store earlier today backs up rumors of a summer launch. The listing was spotted and screencapped by TGspot (link via Google Translate) before it was removed.
The Galaxy S4 mini appeared with the model number GT-I9195 as part of a line-up of Samsung smartphones on the company’s app store site. The handset is a smaller, cheaper version of Samsung’s fastest selling phone, which recently hit 10 million channel sales less than a month after its international launch on April 26.
Samsung has positioned the Galaxy S4 as its iPhone challenger and a smaller version may help attract new customers who were previously but off by the phablet‘s 5-inch screen. Though Samsung has yet to announce a release date for the Galaxy S4 mini, a summer date would give it a head start over Apple’s fall lineup of new products, potentially including the iPhone 5s.
The appearance of the smartphone on Samsung’s apps site is the latest leak backing up rumors of the phone’s imminent release. Two weeks ago, photos purportedly showing the Galaxy S4 mini were posted by Sina Weibo user PunkPanda, who has leaked authentic photos of unreleased Samsung devices in the past. The photos appeared to confirm previously rumored specs, including a 4.3 inch gHD display and a 8-megapixel rear camera.

Moss Slams Piven For “Being Highly Unprofessional”
Elisabeth Moss slammed her former Broadway co-star Jeremy Piven over what she was “highly unprofessional” behavior.
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Moss spoke on her time working with Piven during the production of Speed-The-Plow. The official story is that Piven left the production after coming down with mercury poisoning from his predominantly fish-based diet. Moss says that it was just an excuse.
Moss says Piven didn’t look like somebody who was suffering from mercury poisoning when she saw him a month after he quit the production. She says that he was “being highly unprofessional” when he just didn’t show up one day.
In the same interview, she talked about fellow Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm’s “ham.” She said that she’s seen the picture, but that’s all she knows.
Moss can currently be seen on television in the sixth season of Mad Men. The next season will be the show’s last so it’s anybody’s guess where she’ll end up afterwards.

Sony releases cute “love-commercial” making use of NFC technology in Xperia phones
Sony has taken NFC technology to a whole new level in their new commercial— now you don’t even have to say a word (or send a text) to ask a girl out! What is the world coming to?
All kidding aside, the tech company has put together a pretty cute ad displaying two teens with a crush on one another. They share love songs to each other’s Sony headphones through their Sony smartphones, to share their mutual feelings for one another. It’s a bit far-out, but it does show a pretty cool use of the technology in a unique way.
Check out the video after the break.

Rob Kardashian: Weight Loss Result Of Personal Training
Rob Kardashian was looking good on Saturday after his weight loss plan proved to be a success.
The Kardashian brother said that he gained 40 pounds after splitting with Rito Ora. It was apparent that he had lost that weight when he showed up at the unveiling for his new Robert George by Rob Kardashian sock collection in Las Vegas.
Of course, he’s not done with losing weight just yet. He says that he still has to lose between 40 to 50 pounds. He hopes to lose that weight within the next six months.
So, how is he going to do it? He’s training with his brother-in-law Lamar Odin’s trainer. He’s also trying to indulge in healthier habits. In particular, he says that he won’t be drinking while he’s in Las Vegas.
Rob was in the news earlier this month after he was charged with battery and theft. As expected, he pleaded not guilty. The photographer he allegedly stole from has sued him as well.

Boot animation changer now available with nearly 400 custom boot animations
Good news for those of you that are tired of your generic boot animations on your Android devices— a forum member on XDA Developers, Vincent8111, has compiled about 400 custom boot animations into a single program for your convenience.
The BootAnimation Changer runs on Windows and stores an extensive collection of boot animations, sorted by name or file size, and varies from the opening sequence of the Simpsons, to anime, to colorful abstract patterns, to an obvious favorite, the Android mascot. One pretty cool feature is that the program has the ability to change the resolution of the animation to fit different screens. The proportions of the animation are kept while in the act of re-sizing. This makes everything pretty simple and straightforward for the user.
A bit of a warning though— the program comes in at a hefty 1.6GB— those with limited broadband may want to stay away from the 400 animations included in the software. (Not to mention it will take up a pretty big chunk of your internal storage as well.) The file is free and comes in both English and French. As always, if you don’t have a lot of experience with flashing files to your Android and using custom recovery, we wouldn’t recommend messing around with your boot animations. It might not be for everyone, but it’s nice to know that there are alternative options out there to the default boot animations.

Redesigned Gmail app with categories rumored to release Wednesday
A few days ago we showed you screenshots of a redesigned Gmail Android app that were leaked at an I/O session. An anonymous tipster sent some sloppy screenshots to some sites a few days ago, and now ryan_socio of the Verge (who was the first to leak that Google Babel was actually Hangouts) has confirmed the rumors. The interface reportedly has five tabs – Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums – in which incoming email will automatically be sorted. The desktop version of Gmail uses tabs to display the categories, Android puts them in categories in the inbox, and iOS lists them in the sidebar. The tip says that the rumored images are from a draft of a Gmail Blog post, so it could be only days until we will see if it’s true. A refreshed Android app with the collapsible navigation drawer would be a welcome site to see. The categories feature, which should be optional, could easily replace Gmail’s “multiple Inboxes” option and improve the “SmartLabels” feature currently in Labs.

Pitt Says Face Blindness Is Limiting His Social Life
Brad Pitt may have face blindness and he says the disorder is impacting his social life.
In a recent Esquire interview, Pitt says that he thinks he has prosopagnosia – a disorder that makes it impossible for the affected to remember faces. He told the magazine that the disorder makes it hard for him to meet new people as he won’t remember their faces the next time he meets them. This makes it seem like he’s being rude, and people tend to not like him as a result.
He says that some people are helpful by providing him some context over how they met, but most people think he’s being egotistical. He says that’s not the case. As a result, he says that he’s limiting his time outside so as not to accidentally offend anybody.
Of course, Pitt only thinks he suffers from face blindness, and has not received an official diagnosis. To that end, Carnegie-Mellon University has offered to perform a free brain scan on Pitt to find out if he suffers from face blindness. He has yet to take them up on the offer.
The revelation that Pitt may suffer from face blindness isn’t the first juicy bit of info to come out of his recent interview with Esquire. The star also commented on his former marriage to Jennifer Aniston saying he was a drifter during those years.

‘I Dream Of Jeannie’ Costume Worn By Barbara Eden At Charity Event
The iconic I Dream Of Jeannie costume was donned by Barbara Eden during a charity event over the weekend.
People reports that Eden wore her now-famous I Dream of Jeannie costume at the Life Ball charity event in Vienna over the weekend. Eden, 78, still looked great in the costume that made her a household name in 1965. She hung out on stage in costume with former president Bill Clinton. There’s got to be a weird cross over fan-fiction in there somewhere, but we’ll save that for another time.
I Dream Of Jeannie hasn’t been on the air since it was canceled in 1970 after five years of fulfilling America’s wishes. Eden did, however, reprise her role as Jeannie for two made-for-TV films in I Dream Of Jeannie: 15 Years Later and I Still Dream Of Jeannie. With Eden adorning her Jeannie costume after more than 20 years, fans will undoubtedly request that she star in a third film. At best, we’ll probably get a film reboot with a younger star while Eden cameos.
Either way, Eden reprising her role as Jeannie surely raised plenty of money at Europe’s largest charity event dedicated to AIDS and HIV research.

Jay-Z NFL Investigation: Did He Have A Hand In Recruiting Geno Smith?
Jay-Z is under investigation by the NFL after it was found that he may have gotten too close to a recruit during the recruitment process.
Jay-Z, who owns Roc Nation Sports Agency, may have been personally involved with the recruitment of Geno Smith for the New York Jets. According to NFL rules, only NFLPA-certified agents can be involved in the recruiting process. Jay-Z does not have this certification as he only owns Roc Nation while having agents handle the recruitment process.
So, what happened in this particular case? Smith’s recruitment was handled by Roc Nation agent Kim Miale, but the NFL investigation suggests that Jay-Z was directly involved in the recruiting process. For one, an Instagram photo showed Jay-Z and Smith together before it was announced that Smith had signed with Roc Nation. Another piece of evidence from Smith’s adviser, John Thorton, says that Jay-Z and Smith had met for meetings.
The NFL has just begun its investigation, and it might be a while before we have a verdict. For now, Smith is still signed with Roc Nation.

Pope: Mafia Must “Convert To God”
Pope Francis, who recently made some controversial statements about atheists, has now targeted the Italian mafia.
Reuters reports that the Pope urged members of the mafia to repent this week after he beatified Giuseppe Puglisi. Puglisi was a Sicilian priest that became known for his vocal statements against organized crime families in Italy. He ultimately paid for his statements with his life as he was shot to death outside of his home in 1993.
After the service, the Pope spoke out against many of the crimes committed by Italian mafias:
“My thoughts are with the suffering of women, men and also children who are exploited by the many mafias who make them slaves, through prostitution, through many social pressures. They cannot do this, they cannot make our brothers slaves, we must pray to the Lord to make these mafiosi convert to God.”
Pope Francis made headlines earlier this week when he said that atheists will be redeemed as long as they are good. As you can expect, the statement was met with controversy. His latest statements regarding the mafia will undoubtedly be met with less resistance.

Lesbian Love Story Wins Top Honor At Cannes Film Festival
A lesbian love story film titled Blue is the Warmest Color has won the highest honor at the Cannes Film Festival.
News.com reports that director Abdellatif Kechiche and the two leading stars – Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux – were awarded the Golden Palm award. The film was chosen for the festival’s highest honor by an all-star panel comprised of Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman and others.
Kechiche, who is French-Tunisian, dedicated the award to the youth of both France and Tunisia. He put a special emphasis on Tunisia as he referenced the youth protest movement in the country. He said that the youth of the country should have the right to “live free, to express themselves freely and to love in full freedom.”
Here’s a scene from the film:
The film to take the second-highest prize – the Grand Prix – was the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis.

Party Bus Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 10 Injured
A husband and wife who lost control of their car early this morning on a California highway caused a major accident which injured several people and left the woman dead. Her husband is in the hospital with critical injuries.
Both were reportedly drinking, but their blood alcohol levels haven’t been released. When the car spun out of control, it swung around to face the wrong way on the highway and was hit head-on by a party bus, injuring ten people inside. At least two of those were moderate injuries. The bus driver suffered minor injuries.
The accident is currently under investigation; authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed it to call (650) 369-6261.
Sadly, this isn’t the first major, tragic accident on a California roadway in recent weeks; a new bride was killed along with four of her friends when a limo they were riding in erupted into flames on a San Francisco bridge.

Skydiver Falls To Death After Parachute Tangles
A 62-year old skydiver fell to his death yesterday in California after he became entangled in his parachute, officials say.
Ken Oka of Mira Loma was attempting a multiple-person jump when the parachute got snared; he was unable to free himself midair and fell into a suburban backyard.
Local police and the FAA are both conducting investigations; eerily, another 62-year old man fell to his death in a similar way just earlier this month in Deland, Florida. Officials say Santiago Rosell died during a jump with two other people after landing in a grassy field near the runway.
“It was a passion that he shared with everyone around him,” said friend Lisa Kittrell of Rosell. She said he often went skydiving. “He always had a bright smile on his face when he came back, said, ‘I just went skydiving!’”

Bombs In Teen Bedroom: “Bigger Than Columbine”
An Oregon teen has allegedly been planning in detail an attack on his high school and was hiding bomb makings in his room, including napalm.
17-year old Grant Acord will be charged with attempted aggravated murder after police–acting on a tip–found the napalm, pipe bombs, drain cleaner bombs, and Molotov cocktails in Acord’s bedroom, where he’d been hiding them under the floorboards. The teen reportedly had well-drawn plans to attack his school and wanted it to be on a bigger scale than the deadly Columbine shootings in 1999, when two teens shot up their school and killed 12 students and a teacher.
Acord’s “goal was to model the Columbine shootings with some adjustments that would make it a greater success,” District Attorney John Harlodson said.
West Albany High School has been searched as a precautionary measure, but officials will go through once more with bomb-sniffing dogs before students are allowed to return after the weekend.
Acord has been planning the attack for some time, and had diagrams and checklists in his bedroom which laid out his plans for the bombs as well as guns.
“This was a very methodical process,” said Haroldson. “He took time to even get to this point. “I can’t say enough about how lucky we are that there was an intervention. When I look at the evidence in the case, I shudder to think of what could have happened here.”

President Obama Tours Tornado Damage in Moore, Oklahoma: “We’ve Got Your Back”
It was just one week ago that tornadoes tore through Oklahoma, devastating the town of Moore.
Today, President Obama traveled to the area — visiting Plaza Towers Elementary School to offer a nation's condolences, and a promise to help Moore rebuild.
The President thanked Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and Mayor Glenn Lewis of Moore for their quick, outstanding response, and praised other local officials instrumental in helping to save lives and jumpstart the town's recovery efforts.
President Obama highlighted the everyday acts of heroism in Moore, thanking first responders and volunteers for embodying the "Oklahoma Standard":
We’ve seen incredible outpourings of support from churches, from community groups who are helping folks begin to recover.
This area has known more than its share of heartbreak. But people here pride themselves on the “Oklahoma Standard” –- what Governor Fallin has called, “Being able to work through disasters like this, and [to] come out stronger on the other side.” And that’s what we’ve been seeing this week.
From the forecasters who issued the warnings, to the first responders who dug through the rubble, to the teachers who shielded with their own bodies their students, Oklahomans have inspired us with their love and their courage and their fellowship.
Moore, like Joplin and New Jersey before it, will rebuild — and the nation is standing by to help. As President Obama said:
When we say that we’ve got your back, I promise you, we keep our word. If you talk to folks in Alabama who have been affected over the last couple of years; you talk to the folks at Joplin, who I know have actually sent volunteers down here to Moore; if you talk to folks in New Jersey and New York, they’ll tell you that when we say we’re going to be there until you completely rebuild, we mean it.
The President closed by urging every American to step up and help the people of Oklahoma.
After visiting Plaza Towers, President Obama stopped by Moore Fire Department Station #1 to meet with first responders. The fire station has served as a command center throughout the disaster, first for search and rescue and now for survivor services.
Ed. Note: You can help people affected by the recent tornadoes through American Red Cross Disaster Relief. If you are in the affected areas, click here to apply for assistance and learn about other resources that are available to you.

Fans Create A 3D-Printable Version Of Cyvasse, The Game Of Thrones Boardgame

Take off your silken cloak and get your dragon eggs ready because Cyvasse, the game that characters play in George R. R. Martin’s Game Of Thrones series is now 3D-printable. Created by Arian Croft of IllGottenGames and his friend Nate Stephens, the game uses most of Martin’s rules mentioned in the books as well as interpolations taken from period-specific game rules.
He writes:
I adapted the game to include everything mentioned in the book into a rules set I found believable for a game made during the emulated time period, while also keeping the games in mind that Martin has mentioned as inspiration during interviews. The pieces are nicely detailed but should print well on even simpler 3D printers. I’ve printed one of Arian’s previous games, Pocket-Tactics and he’s an excellent model-maker with a good eye for detail and an understanding of the limitations of the medium. Best of all, this game is free to print and play, a potential disruption that should should be giving Parker Brother’s nightmares.
You can download the game here and print it out yourself in black or white ABS. Just don’t tell those nasty Warlocks in Qarth. They’ll probably steal all your pieces.

UK Sky apps hacked — uninstall immediately!
It may be a national holiday weekend in the UK, marked with a traditional barbecue and a couple too many beers, but hackers are not taking a break. Broadcaster and news outlet Sky is apparently reporting that all of its Android apps have been compromised and users are advised to remove them immediately.Google Player listings for Sky Go, Sky+, SKY WiFi, and Sky News are said to have been tampered with and make reference to the Syrian Electronic Army. The hack appears to have been pushed out via a series of forced updates and the fact that the app listings were tampered with in such an obvious way means that this was an attack designed to be noticed.
At this stage there are no details about exactly what threat is posed by the apps, if any, although at the time of writing, all Sky apps have been removed from Google Play while the comprise is addressed.
Although the word direct from Sky’s Help Team, delivered via Twitter is to uninstall any Sky apps you may currently be using and keep an eye on the @SkyHelpTeam Twitter feed for updates, it appears as if the broadcaster’s Twitter feed was hacked as well and the advice to uninstall the apps might not have come from Sky.
There seems to be a lot of confusion around at the moment, but it certainly won’t hurt to uninstall any Sky apps temporarily until the situation is resolved.
