  • Android This Week: Google’s Phone Gets Buzz; Who Will Sell Sony Ericsson’s?

Substantial buzz continues to surround Google’s Nexus One Android phone. This week specifications came out for it, and they do make it look like the most powerful Android handset yet, although predictions about it being hugely disruptive seem overblown. One big question being asked about this phone is whether Google Voice, Google Talk and other services could enable people to use it without cellular plans. Meanwhile, check out this video walkthrough of the phone.

Also this week, Mplayit launched its Facebook-centric take on how to get Android apps — akin to an app store. It’s designed to make Android apps more discoverable than they are on Android Market, and includes social sharing features.

Plus, the FCC recently approved two versions of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 Android-based phone — one for AT&T and one for T-Mobile. Who will actually sell it though? Neither company has confirmed plans to sell the device, as InformationWeek notes this week. The first quarter of next year is when we’ll know for sure.

Meanwhile, lots of people welcomed the Android version of Buzzd, the social city and nightlife mobile app. It culls data from Twitter and shows graphical views of which locations in a given area are being talked about. And those hungry for new Android apps will also want to check out NPR’s new offering. It uses open-source code and an open API that will allow developers and NPR stations to iterate and improve the app in the future. Good idea.

  • Hard to get needle through skin

Well I have been on the pump for about 18 months and was having problems with the quicksets, so I tried the silhouttes which require manual insertion.

I found it really difficult to insert the needle through my skin. I decided to try some syringes and I’m having the same problem. I really have to use alot of force to push the needle through my skin and when I go to pull it out it is sort of getting stuck (not coming out easily)

It feels like a very long time since I have been doing MDI, but I don’t recall it ever being this hard to inject. Does anyone know why this is happening?

  • Karthikeyan Interested in NASCAR Future

With the A1 GP World Cup of Motorsport still in doubt for the 2010 season, several of the series’ big guns are starting to reevaluate their options for the upcoming year. Such is the case of former Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan, who is now considering a switch to stock car racing into the NASCAR Series.

No Indian driver has ever had the opportunity to debut inside the NASCAR series in the past, which further attracts Karthikeyan into completing the move. The first step was… (read more)

  • RIM’s BlackBerry Tour2 9650 gets the hands-on treatment

There’s practically zero doubt remaining that RIM has a next-generation Tour in the works, but if you’re one of those tin foil hat wearers, you’ll be glad to know that at least one of these things really, truly exists. Boy Genius just got his paws around the Tour2 9650 (shown left), and aside from the optical trackpad replacing the trackball (and the addition of a WiFi module), there’s not much new here. Oh, except that presumably quicker CPU — we’re guessing to-be owners will dig that. We’re told that the physical size is practically identical to the original Tour, and the keyboard is still phenomenal. Care to take a look? Sure you do — hit the source link for a full hands-on gallery.

  • How to Monitor Its HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery Status That Stops Your Nervous Interruption

Have you ever wondered if what you know about HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery.
Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.
HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery – How to Monitor Its Status?

Have you ever worried your HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery would run out when you are working on important reports or files? Have you ever wondered the status of your HP DV4000 Battery and thought of buying a new battery for the laptop?
There are two ways for you to know how long you can rely on your Pavilion DV4000 Batteries; one is to view the real time status of the battery directly on your system, and the other is to check it via a laptop battery status monitoring software.
The icon displaying status of Pavilion DV4000 battery power can be found on the task bar, but it is usually very tiny. To make it bigger, you can point the icon via a mouse, and there will be a pop-up window to show how much power is left. If the battery status icon does not show on Windows system, you can follow the steps below to make it display:
    a. Go to control panel
    b. Click “Taskbar and Start Menu” in Control Panel
    c. In “Notification Area” tab, check the Power item.
    d. Click “ok”
You can also monitor battery usage from Control Panel’s Windows Mobility Center in Windows Vista. (To quickly summon that window, you can type Win+X on the keyboard)
Besides of the simple, real-time display, some software can help you have some ideas about your HP Pavilion DV4000 battery, like BattStat (or Battery Status) and BatteryBar. It’s a quick and free way to get all the info of HP DV4000 battery via checking on the software.
The computer battery status monitoring software usually provides a toolbar on the top of other windows to serve as your floating information bank for you to get the status any time easily. This kind of software also provides charts with many of your system’s specs: runtime (battery life left), charge, power, CPU speed, CPU load, CPU temperature, and hard drive temperature. Not only the data providing, you can set a keyboard shortcut to turn off your DV4000 monitor that save some power when you are going to be away from your Pavilion laptop for a while.
Besides of the basic functions, the most informative areas of the software is the detailed battery information it provides. It displays the capacity of your HP Laptop Battery, which is the maximum amount that you’ll be able to charge it. It also displays what the original maximum was, and it can therefore compute the “wear” on your battery. For example, if you see a 10% wear, it means in the past months that you’ve owned your Pavilion DV4000 notebook, you’ve lost 10% of the battery’s capacity.
Thanks to advanced technology, even HP Pavilion DV4000 is not a new model we can easily monitor the status of the power, and never get nervous for the interruption of power and when to prepare a new battery for our DV4000.
Of course, it’s impossible to put everything about HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery into just one article. But you can’t deny that you’ve just added to your understanding about HP Pavilion DV4000 Battery, and that’s time well spent.

  • Awesome Appetizer!

We have some close friends who we hang out with a lot. When they heard about my recent diabetes diagnosis and my switch to low-carb / low-glycemic diet they had my wife and I over for dinner one night – all low carb. And they are fantastic chefs.

I wanted to share an appitizer they made that I believe is totally unique. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this anywhere. But it’s fabulous!!!

    Endives. Decent Size.
Goat cheese, flavored, preferably already sliced
    prosciutto
    sweet peppers

I am sorry. I am not a chef. I can’t be more specific than that. I am not sure what kind of peppers they were. Just small and sweet. Only a little heat to them.

You use one open leaf of the endive and place the slice of flavored goat cheese in the flat end of the leaf. Then you sprinkle small bits of prosciutto and small bits of these sweet peppers on top. That’s it.

Tastes freaking amazing! I didn’t even know what an endive was before this.

My wife made them today for appetizers before Christmas dinner and they were just as good.

  • 2010 Investing Goals

My goals were originally defined in this December 1, 2007 Investing Goals post and last updated in my 2009 Investing Goals. As noted all year, I will fall short of my 2009 goal of $8,000 in annualized income.  Looking at my long-rang goals, I am still on track to reach my 2017 goal of $30,000. The 2027 goal of $110,000 is not as clear. Given the increased prices and lower yields of new investments, my model is currently indicating this could be difficult to make. However, I will leave both 2017 and 2027 unchanged. Now, what to do with my 2010 goal?

The financial environment we are operating in continues to add complexity to setting a definitive 2010 investment goal. It seems we have quickly moved from dividend cuts to “irrational exuberance”.  After divesting my income portfolio of unproductive stocks and ETFs, it is much stronger than it was a year ago. Throughout 2009, I have lowered the portfolios risk and increased the quality of its holdings.

Looking to 2010, I anticipate it will be better than 2009. That’s not to say the market won’t have a rough ride. I fully expect (and welcome) a correction. However, I don’t foresee the same level of dividend cuts we had to endure over the last 12-18 months. A correction in the market will provide opportunities to pick up world class stocks at lower prices. With that as a backdrop here are my updated goals going into 2010:

    Description Dividend
    Income
    Annualized
    Yield
    on Cost
    2027 Goal 110,000 20.00%
    2017 Goal 30,000 10.00%
    2010 Goal 9,500 4.90%

As noted above, the 2027 and 2017 goals are unchanged. In setting the 2010 annualized dividend income at $9,500, I resisted the temptation to stretch it to $10,000. To achieve the $9,500 of annualized dividend income, the overall rate of growth will be have to be better than what was experienced in 2009. The 2009 yield on cost of 4.90% assumes significantly lower dividend cuts than was experienced in 2009 and 2008.

I am confident that I will finish the year with higher annualized dividend income than where 2009 ended. In addition, I feel good that my string of sequential months of higher annualized dividend income will continue through 2010.

If it were easy, everyone would do it and success wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying. Here’s to an exciting 2010!
