  • Are Big Condoms Threatening Men’s Health?

    DB625949-B25D-4596-A79A-DAC6A588E08F.jpg

Us guys love to think that the only condom that will fit our ginormous manhood is the XXL Magnum. Unfortunately, this thinking may be putting men’s health at risk according to a new study.

Men who refuse to wear smaller condoms are more than twice as likely to report the condom breaking or slipping off. These guys also reported it was more difficult for either partner to reach orgasm.

The study of 436 men by the Kinsey Institute found that 45% of guys had used an ill fitting condom in the previous three months. Using a condom that doesn’t fit properly also can irritate the penis and reduce pleasure for both sexes.

To make matters even worse, a condom that’s too big can also impact erections. Men with poorly fitted condoms are twice as likely to have erection problems.

So guys, it’s time to put your ego aside and get real about how big you are. Getting a condom that actually fits makes life better for you and your partner.

  • New Bosch Auger Filler FVS 3201

New Bosch Auger Filler FVS 3201 Cost-effectively Fills Granular and Powdery Goods

    – Volumetric doser for consistent filling accuracy
    – Agitator ensures uniform product density and homogeneity
    – Ensures food quality through optional HACCP certification

Bosch Packaging Technology’s new auger filler FVS 3201 allows for the precise filing of products such as milk powder, flour and baking mixtures, icing sugar, soups, ground coffee, tea and spices, as well as for various chemical and pharmaceutical applications. The new filler can achieve up to 120 filling operations per minute, with a total throughput of up to 180
    liters per minute.

With the FVS 3201, the product is fed into the agitator funnel either via a direct infeed or a frequency-controlled cross feed auger. Within the funnel, a stirring unit ensures consistent product density and homogeneity. The servo-driven auger screw provides precise dosages while a sensor situated in the funnel checks and maintains the filling level. To process products
with varying consistency, the FVS 3201 offers optimized conical, gate, cutoff or pressure-disc closures. Optimal port closure prevents any afterspill of the handled material and avoids contamination in the sealing area of the packaging, ensuring that packages are leakproof and accurate in weight.

Safeguarding food quality is paramount: The swiveling agitator funnel folds open for fast and easy cleaning. Product changeovers, for instance from gluten-free to gluten-containing or allergenfree products, are fast and efficient, with the option to use a second horizontal infeed auger. This solution significantly increases productivity and reduces downtime.

The FVS 3201 design complies with stringent food safety standards. It also facilitates optional certification to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Concept (HACCP).
“With the new auger doser FVS 3201 we have developed a highly cost-efficient product for the volumetric filling of granular and powdery products”, says Dirk Meissner, Product Manager at Bosch Packaging Technology. “The drives of both the agitator and the auger doser ensure a safe and precise filling process and meet strict food safety standards”.

  • FT-IR spectrometer

The MIDAC Illuminator is for spectroscopists who need dedicated instrumentation or custom sampling configurations. Trying to adapt a standard laboratory FTIR to these custom tasks can be like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Either you find yourself compromising performance, ending up with an awkward or unreliable mechanical jumble, or paying for instrument features you simply don’t use. Finally, there’s a solution designed specifically for your needs. The MIDAC Illuminator is a rugged, compact, and high performance FTIR module that easily and efficiently integrates with a variety of sample interfaces in virtually any configuration.

Inside each Illuminator is a high energy, air-cooled IR source and the patented MIDAC interferometer. Known for its incredible resistance to low frequency vibration interference and its ability to operate reliably virtually anywhere in any orientation, the compact MIDAC interferometer is uniquely suited to demanding applications. The rugged, cast aluminum enclosure includes a single output port equipped with a windowed interface flange. This provides an exit for the collimated output beam while maintaining a sealed and fully purgeable instrument interior.

The MIDAC Illuminator can be coupled with any external sample interface equipped with its own IR detector to create a compact, dedicated FTIR instrument. Alternatively, internal optics which provide a transition to fiber optic cabling can be substituted for the standard collimated output port. By simply adding a fiber optic sampling device and an external detector module, you can create a rugged, yet flexible, near or Mid-IR QC workstation.

The Illuminator becomes a compact, efficient emissions analyzer with a simple factory change. The internal IR source is replaced with a detector module, (DTGS and MCT are popular choices), so that the unit’s port can be aimed at an external source for emissions or open path analysis.

  • Memosens: a new standard in pH measurement

Memosens technology has revolutionized the safety of data transmission. The measuring signal is digitalized in the sensor and transferred to the transmitter inductively via a non-contact connection. This makes the measurement completely resistant to environmental influences such as moisture, corrosion and salt bridges. It also guarantees galvanic isolation of sensor and transmitter thus eliminating interferences. The digital measured value transmission automatically results in an error message if the signal flow is interrupted, dramatically increasing the reliability and availability of the measuring point.

  • Windows Phone 7 to come as early as October 2010

Interview with Alfredo Patron about Windows Phone 7 Series from pda.pl on Vimeo.

Above we have an interview with Alfredo Patron, Microsoft Mobility executive for EMEA, on Windows phone 7 recorded by our friends at PDA.pl.

From the 10 minute interview, we can draw a few interesting point, such as that the release windows stretches from October all the way to December, that Xbox live cross-platform games will be coming, that all Windows Phones 7 devices will have the same UI, which OEM’s can “participate” in but can not extend.

OEM’s are expected to differentiate mainly in hardware e.g. higher megapixel camera and adding keyboards.

Another interesting point was that different applications may live in different “hubs” on the device, instead of actually extending the functionality of the hubs themselves.

Of course we can expect to hear a lot more at MIX10 soon, but at this stage we still appreciate every insight we get regarding this new and disruptive product from Microsoft.

Does anyone notice anything we may have missed? Let us know below.

  • Shooting reported on NIU campus

DEKALB, Ill. (CBS) – A shooting was reported on the Northern Illinois University campus in DeKalb early Friday, and police have apprehended a suspect.

An NIU student was injured in the shooting, which happened near the Stevenson Residence Hall, NIU reported on its Web site www.niu.edu. The victim was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, but no condition was listed.

Campus was locked down following the shooting. The alleged shooter is in custody.

The shooting is being characterized as an “isolated incident between two individuals,” NIU said.

NIU police are asking everyone on campus to take extra precautions and be alert for anything suspicious. Any student who finds anything out of the ordinary may call NIU Public Safety, at (815) 753-1212.

Campus is open, and classes will be held as usual, NIU officials said.

Two years ago, NIU was the site of one of the most infamous school shootings in recent history. On Feb. 14, 2008, former NIU graduate student Steven Kazmierczak walked into an auditorium at Cole Hall during a geology class and opened fire, killing five people and injuring another 21 before committing suicide.

A vigil was held this past Sunday in commemoration of the second anniversary of the shooting.

  • Bird burned at plane crash site euthanized

The red-tailed hawk burned in the crash of a small plane in Sugar Grove in January was euthanized Wednesday.

The bird was treated by Dawn Keller, founder of Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, who had been optimistic about a full recovery.

But the bird had respiratory complications from inhaling fumes from the fiery crash.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. Jan. 23, shortly after the plane took off from nearby Aurora Municipal Airport.

The twin-engine Smith Aerostar crashed just north of a home at Route 47 and Old Oaks Drive, across from Waubonsee Community College, in what witnesses described as a huge fireball.

The pilot and passenger, both Florida men, were killed.

The severely burned hawk was found in the snow at the scene shortly after the crash, and taken to the wildlife rehab center in Barrington.

“There is not a single feather that’s not burned off of that bird’s body,” Keller said at the time.

ben bernankeIn light of the new tightening cycle, we wanted to revisit recent analysis from David Rosenberg on how to play the markets when the dollar is showing strength (as it is today, and as it will for sometime as the cycle continues).

It’s not easy, seeing as a rising buck has been coinciding with a decline in everything priced in dollars.

    Rosenberg writes:

Since the onset of the credit crisis in 2007, there have seen three occasions when a surge in risk aversion caused a period of U.S. dollar strength on flight-to-safety trades — July 15, 2008 to September 11 2008 (around the GSEs); September 22, 2008 to November 21, 2008 (post-Lehman financial collapse) and then from December 17, 2008 to March 5, 2009 (the final leg down in the financials). Here is what happened, on average, during these dollar-rally episodes — ultra-defensive strategies and heightened volatility.

He then outlines 10 specific patterns...
