  • GM Continues Fuel Cell Test Program

    General Motors has announced that it has initiated a test program for a fuel cell system that can be installed in a normal vehicle’s engine compartment (replacing the conventional unit) and that this will enter production in 2015.

  • Porsche, VW Post Good Holdings First Half

    German carmaker Porsche posted today its first half of the 2009/10 fiscal year operational report, showing a favorable operational trend of its holdings. One by one, Porsche Zwischenholding GmbH recorded a double-digit return on sales with an operating profit of 329 million euro.

    Although revenue increased by 3.7 percent compared to the previous year, sales dropped to 33,670 vehicles in the first half of the fiscal year ending July 31, 2010.

  • Nissan-Renault Opens Indian Plant

    The first dedicated Renault-Nissan Alliance vehicle manufacturing plant has just opened in Chennai, India. At the opening ceremony, Renault-Nissan Alliance Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn were present alongside more than 1,000 guests.

    After an investment of 45 billion Rupees ($990 million), the plant will produce 400,000 units per year at full ramp up. Production is set to start on May 2010 and 1,500 workers will be needed. The factory will also have a supplier park of six companies in Chennai,… (read more)

  • CNG Converted Ford Focus Gets $4,000 Tax Credit

    The U.S. Altech-Eco Corporation announced that it has obtained state approval for a $4,000 Federal Tax Income Credit cut for customers who purchase the compressed natural gas converted (CNG) 2010 Ford Focus, as the vehicle runs exclusively on CNG and meets the toughest emissions standards.

    The outgoing Focus has been converted by Altech-Eco to run on natural gas and is distributed through certain Ford dealers and Altech-Eco selected vendors.

  • U.S. Fiat 500 to Get New Platform

    The Fiat 500 is the car that will reintroduce Fiat to the U.S. market and the Italian automaker has big plans for the small vehicle. The American version of the 500 – due to be released next year – will be different from the one sold in Europe, being underpinned by a new platform, Inside Line reported.

    The U.S. 500 will look just like its European brother but will use the Fiat Group’s upcoming A platform, sharing it with the future Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon.

  • Suzuki GSX-R600 Special Edition Released in the UK

    Suzuki’s British division recently announced it is releasing a new special anniversary edition of the GSX-R600 bike. According to MCN, the unique retro color scheme on the smallest gixxer is inspired from the 1999 factory World Superbike racing bike.

  • BMW Motorrad Technicians Get ATA Master Accreditation

    Three of BMW Motorrad’s dealer network technicians in the UK became the first ever to achieve the accreditation of ATA Master Technician, the manufacturer announced recently. This means the German motorcycle manufacturer now has the highest qualified motorcycle technicians in the UK.

    The Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme for motorcycles sets industry standard for qualifications and training of motorcycle technicians and is supported by all the major motorcycle manufacturers.

    The PSA Peugeot Citroen Alliance plans to expand its business on the premium vehicle market.   • Wirelessly Charged Electric Vehicle Used in Seoul

    South Korea has announced the development of a wirelessly charged electric vehicle, a project that became operational this month at the Seoul Grand Park in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province.

    The development is called on-line electric vehicle (OLEV) and uses electricity from an electrical charging strip placed 5 cm under the road’s surface.
