  • Apolo Anton Ohno Makes Winter Olympics History After Winning Seventh Medal

Just call Apolo Anton Ohno the most decorated sportsman in the history of the Winter Olympics. The speed skater glided into the history books this weekend, winning a record breaking seventh winter games medal after completing the men’s 1000-meter short-track on Saturday.

Apolo’s bronze medal win set a new U.S. mark for medals won at the Winter Olympics and shatters the record previously set by Bonnie Blair, who held the record title for six medals in the Winter Olympic Games.

“It feels amazing, especially in a sport as volatile as short track speed skating,” the former Dancing With The Stars contestant remarked after his historic win. “This is my third Olympic games and there is no other athlete here competing who has gone to three Olympic games and medaled every time.”

A slip up towards the end of the race almost knocked Ohno, 27, out of the competition, but he fought back for a third place finish.

“I had to crank it up, but I regrouped and won the bronze. It means a lot to me. I wanted to leave my heart and soul on the ice and I did. I don’t look back at past medals, I look back at the struggles. I live my life with the philosophy that anything’s possible but I had no idea I’d have this much success.”

  • Andrew Koenig, “Growing Pains’” Boner, Missing

If you grew up watching Growing Pains — or even Star Trek — you likely know the name Andrew Koenig. What you may not know is that the 42-year-old actor has been missing for more than a week, and his shaken family and friends are sick with worry.

Koenig, who played Richard Milhous “Boner” Stabone on Growing Pains between 1985 and 1989, is the son of actor Walter Koenig — best remembered as Pavel Chekov on Star Trek. Today, the younger Koenig is the camera operator on the comedy podcast “Never Not Funny.” He was last seen in Vancouver on Feb. 14 before vanishing without a trace, according to show’s website Maximumfun.org. “Andrew is a super, super good guy, and we’re thinking of him and his family. Koenig didn’t make his flight back to the US on Feb. 16. If you’re in the Northwest, please keep your eyes out, and no matter where you are, please share this news,” the site reads.

“He went up to [Vancouver] to visit friends who last saw him on the 14th. Any information we can get on his whereabouts would be helpful,” Danielle Koenig, Andrew’s sister, told Zap2it.com, which was first to report the news.

“He was in a depressed state,” Walter says of his last conversation with his son. But the veteran actor was quick to add that while troubled, Andrew is not addicted to drugs. “So many times when these kinds of reports about behavior and habits come out, there are insinuations that are untue. Andrew has no narcotic habit.”

Anyone with information on Koenig’s whereabouts is asked to call the Vancouver Police at 604-717-2534.

  • Scotty Lago Racy Pics Send Snowboarder Home From Olympics

    Overreacting much?

Scotty Lago, Olympic bronze medal winning half-pipe snowboarder of Team USA, volunteered to leave the Olympics on Friday after racy pictures of him were leaked online.

Lago, who was awarded his bronze medal Thursday night, was at a party, wearing a Team USA T-shirt when somebody snapped a photo of a woman kneeling below the Olympian’s waist to kiss the medal. A second picture shows Lago sticking the medal in the woman’s mouth as teammate Greg Bretz looks on.

Both images went viral after appearing on TMZ Friday afternoon.

The pics sparked a lively discussion among sports fans online, and by Friday evening, Lago had apologized to officials at the US Olympic Committee and the US Ski and Snowboard Association and decided to go home. Both organizations have been tough on athletes after freestyle skier Jeret “Speedy” Peterson got into an alcohol-fueled incident following his competition in 2006.

“Scotty Lago is a great athlete, but with that comes a responsibility of proper conduct, and his involvement in this situation is not acceptable,” Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Saturday. “Scotty realizes his conduct was inappropriate. He has formally apologized and also made a decision to leave Vancouver today.”

Lago was a member of a group of snowboarders called The Frends.

  • “Glamorous Grandma” Jane Fonda Plastic Surgery Facelift

Jane Fonda kicked off the new year with a new look. Two weeks ago, the screen legend, now 76, went under the knife to freshen up her face by smoothing out a few wrinkles and reducing the presence of lines around her eyes.

Fonda — who is working on a revival of her popular ’80s workout videos — attempted to distract attention from the recent operation by getting a new haircut.

She told England’s Daily Express this week: “I just had some work done on my chin and neck and had the bags taken away from under my eyes so I decided it would be a good idea to get a new haircut so people will think it’s my new hair.”

Jane had work done in 2000 and made a personal vow to never go under the knife again, but changed her mind after getting “tired of not looking like how I feel.”

“I wish I’d been brave enough to not do anything but, instead, I chose to be a somewhat more glamorous grandma,” Fonda explained.

  • Sacha Baron Cohen Was First Choice To Host 2010 Oscars

First time Oscars producers Bill Mechanic and So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman had an unorthodox first choice to host the 2010 Academy Awards: Bruno star Sacha Baron Cohen.

In an interview with Teri Gross of National Public Radio’s “Fresh Air” on Thursday, the always candid Shankman was asked how he and Mechanic had set about shaking up the 82nd annual ceremony. Shankman revealed that when he and Bill first met for lunch, they immediately agreed that Sacha was the ideal person for the job.

After all, the Cambridge-educated Brit was nominated for an Oscar three years ago for writing Borat. But just as quickly as Mechanic and Shankman came up with the idea, “The Academy swatted it down. They thought it was too big of a wild card.”

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will host the Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on March 7.

  • Fantasia Hate Mail Scare

Fanny’s Got A Psycho! Former American Idol Fantasia Barrino has been frightened into seclusion after being presented with a racist, threatening letter while going through fan mail in her dressing room this week.

According to celebrity-themed website TMZ.com, the singing single mom had just wrapped up her performance in the stage production of The Color Purple at Pantages Theater in Los Angeles on Friday when she opened up a letter peppered with threats of violence and racial slurs — including the N-word.

The phantom who penned the frightening note claims he used to work as a security guard for FOX during Fantasia’s reign on Idol in 2004. An alarmed Barrino immediately contacted theater security and the Los Angeles Police Department, who are investigating the incident.

“I will not be defeated by one isolated person’s hatred,” Barrino told TMZ in a statement.

  • The National Enquirer Up For Pulitzer Prize?!

The National Enquirer — the supermarket tabloid celebs love to loathe — shocked the political world in 2009 when the publication actually got something right for once and blew the lid off the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter Lovechild Sex Scandal. Now the coup could earn the tawdry tab literature’s most prestigious award, a Pulitzer Prize.

    Has the world gone mad?

The Enquirer thinks it should be up for Pulitzer for its reporting on the Edwards scandal — which hit headlines when it was discovered that the former presidential candidate cheated on his terminally-ill wife and fathered a child with his former campaign videographer, Hunter.

“We’ll see what happens,” Enquirer executive editor Barry Levine said on Friday. “We want to see now that the Pulitzer people review our submission and we expect, obviously, that there’s going to be tremendous competition in the investigative category and in the national reporting category.”

The Enquirer’s staff is eligible for the Pulitzer in the categories of “Investigative Reporting” and “National News Reporting.”

  • Brian Bonsall, “Family Ties’” Andy, Arrested For Marijuana Possession

Trouble-prone former child star Brian Bonsall has been arrested — again — this time on a charge of marijuana possession.

Bonsall played Andy Keaton on the NBC sitcom Family Ties, but the years since early stardom have brought strife for the high school dropout. According to The Denver Post, Bonsall’s defense attorney — Yasmin Forouzandeh — says the ex-actor needs marijuana for chronic headaches and has applied for a medical marijuana card through the state.

    (Ever heard of an aspirin?)

In addition to today’s drug charges, Bonsall, 28, is accused of assaulting a friend with a broken wooden stool in December and of missing a court hearing in a 2007 assault case with a former girlfriend.

  • Kendra Wilkinson Senate Run?

Is Washington ready for a former Playboy Bunny? Rocker John Mellencamp isn’t just one celeb possibly his hat into the ring for Evan Bayh’s Indiana Senate seat.

There’s a grassroots movement building that’s urging former “Girls Next Door” Kendra Wilkinson to run to replace Bayh, who announced this week that he will not seek reelection in the 2010 midterm elections, The Examiner said on Friday.

Kendra resides in Indiana with her husband, Indianapolis Colts star Hank Baskett. Various Indianapolis radio stations are polling locals about who they’d like to see replace Bayh. Surprisingly, dozens of listeners have called in to nominate the reality star.

While she’s got the residency part down, Kendra’s not eligible to run for public office just yet. At 24, the new mom still has six years to go before she meets the age requirement to serve as a US Senator.

A man accused of stalking The Hills starlet Audrina Patridge was arrested outside the aspiring actress’ Hollywood Hills’ home on Friday. Los Angeles Police Sgt. Kyle Kirkman says Zachary Loring was arrested Friday morning after officers responded to an emergency call from Audrina’s pad and found Loring, 24, banging on her door.

    Houston, we have a Psycho!

Audrina obtained a three-year restraining order against Loring in September. At the time, the reality personality testified that she was afraid after the unstable man repeatedly showed up to her home and presented her with disturbing drawings.

  • Tim Gunn Slams Kardashian Bebe Line; Rips The Cast Of “Jersey Shore”

Tim Gunn is one slick-talkin’ fashionisto that doesn’t like what he sees in the Kardashians’ closet. One of the most famous families in the world of reality TV should keep off the racks and stick to sharing their shenanigans on the small screen, according to the Project Runway mentor.

The silver-haired fashion guy has some bitter criticism about the collection of leather hoodie dresses The Kardashian Sisters — Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe — have designed for mall retailer Bebe’s fall line. The designs were unveiled by Kim during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City on Tuesday, and Tim’s already recommending a trip back to the drawing board.

Gunn told MSN’s Wonderwall Column: “I just think the Kardashians have an absence of taste and I don’t think that that should be perpetuated. I’m sorry I’m sounding like an old farty snob but it bothers me….”

Tim is equally unimpressed with the style phenomenons — “The Pouf,” anyone? — sweeping the nation courtesy of the MTV reality series Jersey Shore: “Ugh! Oh! Don’t even get me started. It is not a style to emulate. I know that the show is hugely popular. I will tell you it pains me when I hear 12-year-old girls say it’s their favorite show. You shouldn’t be watching it! And it’s so incendiary that New Jersey is no longer permitting it to be taped in New Jersey…..”

  • Suri Cruise Debuts $837 Salvatore Ferragamo Handbag

Suri Cruise, the 3-year-old daughter of Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, was spotted carrying a metallic designer bag worth $837. The tot’s new Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia handbag was a downsized version of Katie’s $1,735 bronze metallic Sofia bag, London’s Daily Mail revealed this week.

Suri, who previously made headlines by wearing high heels, also sparked controversy with her wardrobe again this week when she was snapped wearing red lipstick while accompanying her famous parents to a Broadway show.

The lipstick “goes well beyond playing dress-ups in private at home” and blurs the lines between child and adult, Australian adolescent psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg told The Herald Sun on Friday.

“I worry that the little girls may come to believe that their bodies are supposed to draw attention, primarily male attention. The earlier these messages hit them, the more ingrained they become. They are being groomed to see their bodies as sexual objects.”
