The longest day of Jack Bauer’s life will be his last day on TV. FOX has decided to axe the real-time drama after eight seasons.

A statement issued by the network announced that the once hit show will bow out with a two-hour series finale May 24. The network says the program’s cancellation was a joint decision by star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, 24 producers, and FOX executives.

“This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon,” Sutherland said in a statement Friday. “This feels like the culmination of all our efforts from the writers to the actors to our fantastic crew and everyone at FOX. Looking ahead to the future, Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature film version of 24. But when all is said and done, it is the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to have the experience of playing the role of Jack Bauer, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

Series star Mary Lynn Rajskub Tweeted about the conclusion of its current eighth season on Friday:

“Just found out we got the word officially. This is 24’s last season.”

The series — which debuted in Nov. 2001 — split a 24-hour day into one-hour real-time episodes, and grappled with terrorism and political issues in the wake of 9/11.

Just because FOX is pulling the plug on FOX doesn’t mean the show won’t get a ninth season, NBC’s head Angela Bromstad is reportedly a “major league” 24 fan, and is “extremely motivated to find a way to bring the series to The Peacock.

Is it the end of the road for American Idol?

Tipsters tell Star Magazine that next year’s 10th season of Idol will be its last.

Simon Cowell’s departure from the long-running reality competition is reportedly behind its demise. Everyone involved with the program is in agreement that Idol cannot continue successful with Simon headlining a US edition of UK hit The X Factor — and former judge Paula Abdul possibly joining him, the tabloid claims.

“Producers know Simon really makes the show, and they feel like they could go only one season without him and the quality will suffer after that,” an Idol insider divulged.

FOX execs are planning to bring in an all-star lineup of guest judges to fill-in for Mr. Nasty — including past Idol champs like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.

Sandra Bullock’s heartbreak is translating into mayjah moolah for In Touch Weekly. The tabloid’s March 29 edition — which revealed Jesse James’ affair with an unstable tattoo model and sparked a cheating scandal involving at least three other women — is the best-selling issue in the publication’s history, The Washington Post said Friday.

“Though official numbers have yet to come in, sources tell us that the cover was likely In Touch’s biggest seller ever, at around 1.4 million copies–in contrast to the magazine’s average newsstand sales of 800,000….”

Frail and gaunt but all smiles, Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper accepted his long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday.

After a career he Hoosiers star received the 2,403rd star along Hollywood Boulevard this afternoon. Hopper, who is battling advanced prostate cancer, attended the ceremony despite his weakened state. Hopper, known for his roles in Blue Velvet, Hoosiers, and Apocalypse Now, is currently in a bitter divorce battle with wife Victoria Duffy. On Wednesday, Hopper’s attorney Joseph Mannis filed a declaration asserting the actor cannot be questioned by his wife’s divorce attorneys because he is terminally ill and unable to undergo any more chemotherapy to treat his disease. Wearing jeans and a grey suit jacket, the actor, Hopper was introduced by Viggo Mortensen and honored by Jack Nicholson — who he co-starred with in Easy Rider.

During his speech, Hopper explained that bandages over his hand and right eye were the result of a run-in with the paparazzi on Thursday. Hopper said the photographers shouted his name and it caused him to turn too quickly and fall.

Hopper thanked Hollywood for being “my home and my schooling.”

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is appealing to the Tribeca Film Festival to pull the transgender comedy Ticked Off Trannies With Knives from this year’s lineup.

Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives follows three transsexuals who exact revenge on men attacking and murdering some of their friends. Trannies will screen at Tribeca next month, but GLAAD accuses the film of misrepresenting the lives of transgender women and claims the characters are caricatures “written as drag queens.” The organization also objected to the use of the word “trannies.”

Tribeca organizers have no intention of yanking the movie from the schedule, and responded with this statement: “The filmmakers provided a copy of this film to GLAAD in February, and for weeks the organization had been supportive to the filmmakers. In fact, GLAAD representatives advised the film’s producer, director and cast on how to describe the film to its core constituency.”

In the official online listing for the comedy by Israel Luna, the film is described as a “campy homage to the exploitation films” in which “a group of transgender women are violently beaten and left for dead,” but then “the violated vixens turn deadly divas.”

Hundreds of opponents of Trannies have developed a Facebook group called “Boycott ‘Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives’ at the Tribeca Film Festival.”

The Tribeca Film Festival was co-founded by Robert DeNiro in 2002 to revitalize Lower Manhattan after the 9/11 terrorist attack. This 2010 fest will host the world premiere of Shrek Forever After.

Denny McGee, father of alleged Jesse James mistress Michelle ‘Bombshell’ McGee, is breaking his silence on his daughter’s romance with Sandra Bullock’s husband in a chat with FOX 8 Cleveland. Mr. McGee — a conservative barber — shares what he knew about her relationship with Jesse (which is quite a bit), her controversial tattoos, and his thoughts on the star Michelle says she’s been bedding. Surprisingly, Dad describes Michelle as a good daughter and loving mom –a far cry from the proud homewrecker with a penchant for posting profane rants under the Twitter handle “Evil Cunt.”

McGee says his daughter decided to come forward with her story after watching the Academy Award Ceremony and realizing James and Bullock were still very much a married couple. For his part, Denny plans to fly to San Diego soon to be near a secluded Michelle and her children, but he adds that he wishes Jesse would have “been honest with my daughter from the beginning.”

Someone just pulled a “Katherine Heigl” — It isn’t everyday you hear a star rip their own show, but Big Love actress Chloe Sevigny did just that during a recent interview with The AV Club.

Sevigny, who stars as Nicolette Grant on the HBO polygamist drama, was disappointed with the storylines on the fourth season of Big Love, which wrapped up earlier this month. The star is vocal with her displeasure and believes that the show has become too “far-fetched” for its own good.

“It was awful this season, as far as I’m concerned,” Sevigny retorted. “I’m not allowed to say that! [Gasps.] It was very telenovela. I feel like it kind of got away from itself. The whole political campaign seemed to me very farfetched. I mean, I love the show, I love my character, I love the writing, but I felt like they were really pushing it this last season. And with nine episodes, I think they were just squishing too much in,” she explained. “HBO only gave us nine Sundays, because they have so much other original programming—especially with The Pacific—and they only have a certain amount of Sundays per year, so we only got nine Sundays. I think that they had more story than episodes. I think that’s what happened.”

Sevigny also revealed that the cast members only receive scripts an episode at a time: “We never know what’s going to happen in the next episode until we’re almost finished shooting the one we’re shooting at present. Me and the girls [Jeanne Tripplehorn and Ginnifer Goodwin] definitely were not very happy with where it was going – or more like, ‘We really hope it’s going to work. It seems like they’re really pushing it’.”

Big Love has been renewed for fifth season on HBO, and Chloe can only hope that fans will continue to tune in when the show returns in the fall.

“… I hope the fans will stick with us and tune in next year. There’s a lot of people who really love this season, surprisingly. God, I’m going to get in so much trouble.”

Reports that the “Sasha Fierce” diva is pregnant are “untrue,” a rep for the singer told Access Hollywood on Friday.

The web has been abuzz with claims that the star is pregnant since Mediatakeout.com reported Thursday that he ‘Sweet Dreams’ singer and her rapper husband Jay-Z – who married in a secret ceremony on April 4 2008 – were expecting their first child together.

“According to our source Beyonce is doing fine and resting (for now), but she’s expected to continue working throughout her pregnancy. And we’re also told that Jay-Z is extremely happy to be having his first child with Beyonce,” the site wrote.

A spokesperson for the couple initially refused to comment on the matter, but has since issued a public denial.

Christina Stans have inched a little closer to the return of Queen Aguilera after the Grammy-winning visionary debuted a snippet of her upcoming single “Not Myself Tonight” on ChristinaAguilera.com on Friday. The full song — produced by Polow Da Don — will debut on March 30.

The song is the lead single from Christina’s forthcoming LP, Bionic, dropping June 8.

Hendrix gives good headband!

A sex tape which features late rock legend Jimi Hendrix is coming to DVD.

The video, titled Jimi Hendrix: The Story Of The Lost Sex Tape, contains 11 minutes of footage which allegedly features the guitarist in the middle of an X-rated romp with two women. The clips surfaced in 2007 and will now be released on DVD by distribution company Kaleidoscope, according to NME.com. Cynthia Plaster Caster, who designed the famous plaster cast of Jimi’s privates in 1968, authenticated the footage in 2008: “That’s his dick, and I should know!” she quipped at the time.

The DVD goes on sale May 3.

Hendrix died of an overdose in 1970.

It took a while — but Katherine “Open Mouth, Insert Foot” Heigl has finally apologized for publicly dissing the Grey’s Anatomy writing team. Heigl — who announced her departure from ABC’s award-winning medical drama earlier this week — is sorry for snubbing the Emmy Awards in 2008 and blaming Grey’s writers for her decision not to enter the race.

The star hit the headlines when she told reporters she wouldn’t be defending her Best Actress crown because she didn’t feel that “the material she had been given on the medical drama
warranted a nomination.” The remarks infuriated the show’s writers — and reportedly made for some odd tension on the set of the popular series.

Today, Katherine says she realizes that her comment was “obnoxious” and wishes that she had handled her frustrations in a more mature manner:

“At the time I thought I was doing the right thing and I wanted to be clear that I wasn’t snubbing the Emmys,” the new mom remarks in a new iinterview with Entertainment Weekly. “I was just afraid that if I said, ‘No comment’, it was going to come across like I couldn’t be bothered… I could have more gracefully said that without going into a private work matter. It was between me and the writers. I ambushed them, and it wasn’t very nice or fair. Everybody has bad days. I was a little defensive about my season (on the show) because I thought I hadn’t had a great one.”

Sandra Bullock hasn’t been seen in public since her husband became embroiled in a far-reaching cheating scandal last week that has the motorcycle mechanic romantically-linked to at least four other women — and despite rumors to the contrary, the actress will not emerge from exile to attend this weekend’s 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards.

The Oscar-winning actress has been in hiding — even pulling out of two international premieres for her smash film The Blind Side — ever since tattoo model Michelle “Bombshell” McGee stepped forward alleging an affair with Sandra’s husband of nearly five years, Jesse James.

But the one event she hadn’t canceled was tomorrow night’s family-friendly Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles. The former Speed star is nominated for Favorite Movie Actress at the March 27 awards show alongside Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox and Zoe Saldana. For those who care: Peaches Geldof — perhaps best known as the UK’s answer to Paris Hilton — has been left shamefaced after nude photos of a so-called “heroin-fueled one-night stand” made their way to the “Innernets” this week.

Peaches, just so you know, is the 21-year-old daughter of Irish rocker-turned-politican Sir Bob Geldof. She’s quite the hellraiser for her out-of-control “poor little rich girl” behavior across the pond, but has also gained minor notoriety in the States after eloping with an American musician and starting a Twitter rumor claiming Miley Cyrus had died in 2009.

Writing under the name thatcoolguyben, the former lover published an account of his night with Peaches on Gawker.com.

He detailed how the two met while staying with mutual friends in Los Angeles, while Peaches was recording her first album. He claims they then spent Thanksgiving Eve 2009 playing “Grab Ass” and getting blitzed. “Ben” says he only realized Peaches was famous when he woke up in the Detox Room of the Scientology Center in Los Angeles, a facility Peaches often visits.

Peaches’ attorneys jumped all over the scoop Friday morning, debunking claims that Peaches was high on heroin in the photos linked by Ben: “The allegations that our client was carrying and injecting heroin are also denied, our client having consumed alcohol with the other individual leading to the ‘highs’ described and portrayed in the photographs,” read a statement from the socialite’s legal team.

After more than five years a cable TV reality star, Heidi Montag says she’s delighted to finally say goodbye to The Hills.

On Wednesday, MTV announced that it is pulling the plug on the once popular young adult docu-soap (We blame Jersey Shore.), and The Hills’ resident villainess is happy to close the chapter and focus on acting full-time.

In fact, Heidi’s got big plans for her boobs.

Montag is developing her own 3D movie – in which she will battle a shark with her boobies. She’s already penned a script about the fictitious exploits of a lifeguard named Summer.

“I am making the first 3D beach comedy about a shark that attacks a small beach town and I save the day with my 3D boobs. I’ve even written a role for Dolly Parton to play the town mayor!” Heidi told PEOPLE Thursday.

Prince cashflow troubles just keep getting tighter. A Dublin judge has ordered His Purpleness, now 51, to pay Irish concert promoters up to $2.95 million for pulling out of a concert in the eleventh hour.

High Court Justice Peter Kelly ruled that Prince entered a deal with Dublin promoters MCD Productions Ltd. to perform in Dublin’s 82,300-seat Croke Park in June 2008, but withdrew just days beforehand — this after 55,000 tickets had already been sold.

Prince offered no explanation for the cancellation. MCD, Ireland’s biggest concert organizers, said it had paid Prince half of his demanded $3 million fee up front, another $950,000 to book the venue, and advertised the concert aggressively.

Oddly enough, this follows news this week that Prince owes over $450,000 in state taxes in Minnesota.

The world premiere of Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood will open this year’s Cannes Film Festival in France.

Hood — starring Russell Crowe in the role of the famed outlaw and Cate Blanchett as his love interest Maid Marian — will open the Cannes Film Festival on May 12, fest organizers said Friday.

The festival runs from May 12 to 23.
