  • TRIWA – Turtle and Naked Brasco Watches

    triwa-turtle-naked-brasco

Watch brand TRIWA has released two versions of their newest Brasco model. The ‘Turtle’ and ‘Naked’ Brascos are hand cut and polished from acetate to create a tactile sense of enduring quality usually reserved for that of Ivory and Tortoise Shell. It’s not so often watches get these the tortoise treatment, so it’s the perfect complement to some of the sunglass styles we often see. Both models are also ideal for night and day accessorizing.

  • Junya Watanabe – Fall 2010 Show

    junya-watanabe-fall2010

While New York Fashion Week is still moving along, we thought we’d catch up a bit of some of the labels we’ve missed from the European Fashion Week shows. In keeping with the Fall 2010 styles in mind, Junya Watanabe gives a show in Paris that’s reminiscent of the Jazz band era. With a color story ranging from blacks, greys, tans, browns, olives, and blue, we get a sense that the collection is ready for any weather condition. We’re thoroughly impressed with the range of rain parkas, as well as the suits, blazers, denim, and tweeds. Patterns such as plaid and camo also make it to the collection, which gives the range some standout details. Overall, Junya Watanabe 2010 gives of a sophisticated mood with casual sensibilities in mind.

  • Maserati Tramontane Concept

    Maserati-Tramontane-Concept-1

The name Maserati will always evoke the feeling of speed and luxury, so when we caught wind of this concept, we had to jump in and fight out what the fuss is all about. The Tramontante as its called is a lightweight electric luxury supercar designed to eliminate the excess use of multiple body parts. It’s simple and efficient throughout both exterior and interior spaces. The concept comes from Czech student Ondrej Jirec, who thought of a streamlined connection from the Tramontane’s components straight to its body panels – color, material, and other characteristics play a part in the layering of the design.

  • Bespoken – Fall 2010 Show

    bespoken-main

Bespoken could possibly give the other Fall 2010 labels a run for its money in the “coolest” collection category. From first glance, thoughts of French New Wave cinema comes to mind with its grey color tones, short suits, fedoras, and bow ties. It’s eerily similar to the likes of Band of Outsiders, but the style is definitely easily discernible. There’s a boyish quality to the collection, poetically channeling the looks of Jean-Paul Belmondo, Gérard Blain, Jean-Pierre Léaud, and Maurice Ronet. As for the collection itself, we find ourselves gravitating to the buffalo plaid blazer, the hats, the short blazers, and a few of the round collar tops.

  • Buckler – Fall 2010 Show

    buckler-fall2010

Buckler goes nomad for his 2010 Fall collection. Ideal for the would be traveler/wanderer in mind, Buckler puts together a range consisting of double breasted blazers, three piece suits, wool jackets, thick knit sweaters, slim trousers, and asymmetrical tops. The color palette is heavy on blacks and greys, but there’s the addition of multicolored flannels, browns, tans, and olives. The collection is subtle with a rugged approach, and as for the traveler/wanderer style – think Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman meets Jack Kerouac’s poetry.

  • Rag & Bone – Fall 2010 Show

    rag-and-bone

Military inspired garb is great, and it’s even better when its done right. Rag & Bone prepares a collection appropriately tailored for the war trenches. There’s a rugged and apocalyptic feel to the range with black boots, down wool jackets, oversized scarves, militaristic blazers, super chunky knits, leather patched jackets, and more. The feel of the collection provides an always-prepared-for-anything look, whether it be extreme conditions as a foot soldier, or a strategical masterminding command officer. The color palettes that go from black, grey, olive, and burgundy also signals a very impressive color story line reflecting the World War theme of the range.

  • Oris – Darryl O’Young Limited Editions

    oris-main

The Oris TT3 gets the limited edition treatment with a release as a Darryl O’Young model. For those unfamiliar, Darryl O’Young is a world class Porsche Type 997 race car driver who is also a PCCA Double Class A Champion. And there’s no better watch collaboration involving a championship driver. With its technical and sporty looks, the watch borrows features from Porsche cars – specifically the 911 GT3 RSR and 911 GT3 Cup models. Some features include curved glass cases, rubber straps, wheel prim patterns, calendar date wheel, and Superluminova numerals with the same Microgramma typeface like the ones found on the Porsche.

  • GANT by Michael Bastian – Fall 2010 Show

    gant-by-michaelbastian

Michael Bastian connects well with GANT because it’s one of those classic labels his father wore. To give GANT the reinvention he envisions, Bastian exclaims that, “I see my version of the GANT guy as the younger brother to the Michael Bastian guy. He’s more casual, and a little more athletic, but with a modern edge that feels both approachable and sophisticated.” This is Bastian’s nod to American sportswear, the theme of lacrosse, and the youthfulness of items such as rugbies and shorts, mixed in with the casual styles of blazers, cords, and plaids is just the right formula to introduce the brand to its younger/future clientele.

  • Sewn From the Soul

    s

Our good friends and colleagues Josh and Trav just gave us the heads up on a project they’ve been working on for Black History Month. The Street Etiquette duo has been hard at work with multiple projects, and this latest one they’re pulling off from their sleeve is nothing short of amazing. Enlisting the help of friends, SE has beautifully executed an editorial honoring some of the most influential and most stylist icons from Black History’s pasts. The group channels the styles of Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Cornell West, Nat “King” Cole, Gordon Parks, and more for their “Sewn From the Soul” editorial project.

Visit: SEWN FROM THE SOUL (for full editorial)

Continue reading to view some images of the editorial and a behind the scenes look of the making of “Sewn from the Soul.”

Sewn From The Soul from Alejandro on Vimeo.

Sewn From the Soul is an online editorial project brought to light by seven friends who have all collaborated together in order to see a bigger picture; ultimately meshing and intertwining Style and History. History is important as it gives us the ability to trace back what has occurred previously to help us better direct ourselves to the future. Style contributes to one’s overall character and truly dictates our persona in everything that surrounds us. We all contributed our individual style to this editorial and used a primarily monochromatic palette to assist the Black History Month theme.

The video below is a behind-the-scenes look of what occurred at the photo studio, starting off with an amazing poem by Brooklyn resident and Street Etiquette friend Joekenneth Museau . There is no way to emulate the magic of that exact date, but to know that something tangible resulted from this gathering allows us, at long last, to begin to write our own scripture in history.

This video is meant to honor individuals from Miles Davis to Dr.Cornel West with a splash of our own Street Etiquette style. We hope you enjoy the editorial just as much as we did. I would like to thank everyone who took part in this , it will definitely form into a bigger project in the future.

“In essence, this is the time of the year when all blacks, be they African- Americans, Haitians, Liberians, Nigerians and all people of color need to reflect on their African heritage, culture and how far they have come in understanding the struggles and sacrifices others have made during the days of yesteryears in America.”

  • Opening Ceremony – Spring 2010 Video Starring Kristen Dunst and Jason Schwartzman

Style.com has an exclusive first look at Opening Ceremony’s Spring 2010 short film. Directed by Gia Coppola and Tracy Antonopoulos, the film stars fashion and film darlings Kristen Dunst and Jason Schwartzman (You may remember both for previously appearing in label, Band of Outsiders’ past lookbooks and collections.) The film borrows a lot from the styles evident in French Cinema. There’s a good level of playfulness to the short, but it also shows a few other emotionally stirring incidents involving both characters. The short will screen at the Opening Ceremony’s party for its new Ace Hotel shop Saturday. And if you’re wondering about the music in the film, it’s from Jason Schwartzman’s band, Coconut Records.

  • Kenzo – Fall 2010 Menswear Show (With Video)

    Kenzo-Fall-2010-1

Kenzo creative director Antonio Maras was inspired by French filmmaker Jacques Tati for his retro-1950’s collection. The Autumn/Winter 2010 range consisted of rainwear, accompanied by hats and umbrellas, which was evident in a lot of Tati’s films. To reflect the Fall weather, colors that Maras used were made up of reds, browns, oranges, and greens – similar to that of foliage during the season. These tones were used on items such as overcoats, double breasted suits, cardigans, trousers, and more. Accessories were also a highlight in the collection, with various playful hues, patterns, and materials evident in the shoes, umbrellas, and hats.

Apart from the collection itself, it was also fun to see the show from beginning to end, where the runway extends to the sidewalk and inside the bus. A nice homage to Tati by Maras.

  • Yohan Serfaty – Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

    yohanserfaty-f10-main

This Heart’s on Fire points us to the Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection of Yohan Serfaty. The Casablanca native feels he can bridge the gap between womenswear and menswear through his seemingly androgynous designs. According to Yohan, “I do not make a difference between men and women. I believe that in our current era women are affirming their masculinity, men, on the other hand, are very much in touch with their feminine side. In some kind of way they’re joining each other in the middle. Nevertheless they still keep their personal mystery.”

For Yohan’s Men Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection, we get a good glimpse of his knack for constructing leather outerwear. Included are long coats and jackets that are pieced with both extreme detailing and minimalism. Some of the outerwear are smooth and streamlined, bearing almost no stitches or pockets. Other coats however, have dramatic details such as high collars, sherpa flaps, and other obvious trimmings, pockets, and stitchings. There’s something both abstract and simple to the way the collection is presented, and it could go back to Yohan’s thoughts on the male and female form, where rigidity and subtlety can exist in both sexes.

  • Maison Martin Margiela – Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

    martinmargiela-1

According Maison Martin Margiela, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection is, “an abstraction of black and white photography.” There was deep research in the realm of the monochrome and being able to transfer it to unique textures and fabrics that aren’t often used. Checks and flannels are evident in suits, and even tee-shirts got the soft nappa leather treatment. There are also various degrees of slim cuts in
pants, as well as the use of leather. Outerwear such as the macintosh coat had sheepskin accents, and other fanciful details and trimmings.

  • The Row – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

    therow-springsummer2010-mai

What’s intriguing about this collection is that The Row uses actor James Ransone as their Spring/Summer 2010 model. Ransone is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, appearing in films such as the Inside Man and television shows such as The Wire and Generation Kill. The luxury label, keeps it extremely simple for the season with pieces that include blazers, button ups, light leather jackets, shorts, and shirts. There’s nothing seemingly luxurious about the collection, which could be the ironic twist the brand is going for.

After three years of Research and Development, the experts at ALPINA Genève, Swiss manufacturer of high quality sports watches, were ready to present the brand new, inhouse automatic Manufacture Tourbillon Regulator movement. A team of specialistdesigners, engineers and watchmakers worked hand-in-hand to revive ALPINA as a true Manufacture. Supported by the latest in high-precision equipment and driven by a passion for innovation.
Based on the award-winning Manufacture Regulator caliber, ALPINA Genève developed its own Manufactured Tourbillon Regulator: the AL-980, completely
conceived within its workshops in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. A unique movement that presents several specific, innovative features: Silicium Escapement Wheel and Silicium lever, Smart Weight Balancing™, fast oscillation at 28’800 BpH and an individually numbered Tourbillon cage.

The specific and technical designs of these new Extreme Tourbillon Regulator Manufacture models capitalize on the strong brand philosophy of ALPINA: highest level of accuracy, extremely high readability, shock resistance, sturdiness and reliability. The timepiece, with a bold case diameter of 48 mm, is crafted from either titanium with a pink gold bezel, or pink gold with a black ceramic bezel. The matt black dial features finely brushed steel ALPINA Double-Digit indexes. The iconic ‘Extreme’ design elements remain, and have been coupled with a more elaborate dial design: satin-brushed touches of black in the center of the “Regulator” subdial, skeletonized hands in black brushed steel, unique and originally decorated bridges in the Tourbillon cage and a black PVD signature ALPINA oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire crystal case back.

It requires highly qualified and experienced watchmakers to be able to manufacture the ALPINA Tourbillon caliber. By combining technical complexities with the sports characteristics that contribute to the charm of this timepiece, ALPINA presents undoubtedly one of its most extreme creations in history…
