  • A New Tool for Trace Metals Analysis in Solid Samples – The Prodigy DC Arc

Hudson, NH – Teledyne Leeman Labs has expanded its elemental analysis product line with the introduction of a new DC Arc Spectrometer, Prodigy DC Arc.

Fast trace element analyses of difficult samples are hallmarks of the DC Arc approach. Few other techniques can challenge the ease-of-use or productivity of DC Arc when it comes to samples that are difficult or impossible, to digest, like:

•Ceramics such as Metal Oxides, Carbides, Borides, Nitrides
    •Refractory powders such as SiC
    •Graphite
    •Geological Materials
•Nuclear Materials – Uranium Oxide, Plutonium Oxide
    •Soils, Sludges, Ashes

The Prodigy DC Arc will enhance materials testing capabilities for many labs by providing low detection limits and fast turn-around times for a virtually unlimited number of elements in even the most challenging sample matrices.

  • New mobile concrete batching plant can replace a small concrete factory

60,000 m² floor for a new storage hotel on the outskirts of Paris. This was the task faced by fibo
intercon’s client, whose company is based in Luxemburg. The project, however, was associated with
logistical difficulties. First and foremost the concrete had to be delivered continuously which
according to calculations required 10 truck mixers each day to go back and forth between the
concrete factory and the construction site. Another challenge was the traffic difficulties which
frequently arise in and around the French capital. Thus, great risk was associated with having a
concrete factory supply concrete for the project. Therefore fibo intercon’s customer started looking for
    other solutions.
The solution was found at fibo intercon, a company which manufactures concrete batching
plants, concrete systems and equipment for the global concrete industry. The two companies
had already for some time discussed the possibility of developing a concrete batching plant that
could meet the customer’s requirements and needs. But when the order for the 60,000 m² floor
in Paris finally was within reach, the joint project was speeded up.
In the process the two companies have worked closely together on the technical clarification. All
details and options have been discussed thoroughly, and adjustments have been made. In May
2009 the finished batching plant was ready for production at the construction site near the
    storage hotel in Paris.
    The concept
The newly developed concrete batching is characterized by high mobility and flexibility. The
individual units are mounted on swap loads with hydraulic legs, making it easy to move
between projects. When the batching plant arrives at the construction site, it takes about one
day to erect it. None of the units requires a cast foundation, but can be placed on a level surface.
This allows the contractor to begin concrete production almost right away.

  • A green sports car designed for Bentley, the TEN11

    bentley-ten11-1.jpg
Well, Bentley has something to look forward to and breathe live into. We’re talking about the TEN11 sports car, being designed for Bentley. Well, using numbers to name a car isn’t really new. This time it’s in sequence though. And it’s inspired by the Bentley logo, which has ten feathers on the left and eleven on the right side. This car has been dreamt to be a green one, with low emissions.

Using four electric hub motors, each located in a wheel, the car uses a lightweight body structure, ecological materials, and low CDF, pulling down emissions. Well, the logo inspires the name, though the designing is inspired by kite boarding. This one designed by Miika Heikkinen somewhat reminds one of those luxury sports cars in Speed Racer.

  • Float flat-surfaced concept boat runs entirely on solar energy

    float_2

Eco Factor: Concept boat designed to be powered by solar energy.

The Float is the brainchild of industrial designers Rami Tareef and Milos Ristin who believe that there is a need to expand the use of green energy in the marine field. The Float flat-surfaced boat is a solar-powered double motor concept boat that harvests renewable solar energy using an array of solar panels placed neatly on the roof.

    float_1

Solar power and electric engines don’t make it the fastest boat you’ve ever ridden, but provide a decent cruising speed of up to 10kph. Meant for a marine picnic, the boat is equipped with a table, a grill and a small refrigerator.

  • Solar Scientists: Man Not Likely to Play Dominant Role in Climate by Lawrence Solomon

Article Tags: Lawrence Solomon, Solar News

Solar scientists worldwide are working to disprove the hypothesis that man is primarily responsible for climate change, according to Dr. Jeff Kuhn, Associate Director of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii. In the view of Dr. Kuhn and other top scientists, the Sun changes Earth’s climate. “As a scientist who knows the data, I simply can’t accept (the claim that man plays a dominant role in Earth’s climate),” he states.

Dr. Kuhn last week announced breakthrough research on the role of the Sun – after years of precise satellite measurements, undistorted by Earth’s stratosphere, he and his team discovered that the Sun did not change much in size, as has generally been believed. Rather, the Sun is surprisingly stable, its diameter changing by less than one part in a million during the last 12 years.

Dr. Kuhn’s team, which includes scientists from Stanford University in California and Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa in Brazil, used NASA’s SOHO satellite to obtain resolutions 10 times better than telescopes on Earth, allowing them to measure the Sun’s diameter of approximately 865,000 miles to an accuracy of a few hundred feet. In 2017, when the world’s most powerful telescope — his institute’s Advanced Technology Solar Telescope — starts operating on Hawaii’s Mt. Haleakala’s summit at a resolution 10 times better still, he expects to zero in on details that unravel the mystery of how minute changes on the Sun’s surface affect climate on Earth. NASA’s SOHO satellite revealed that 100 metre high bumps 90,000 kilometres apart cover the Sun’s surface. With his new telescope, Dr. Kuhn expects to capture never-before-seen details of the solar surface.

“We can’t predict the climate on Earth until we understand these changes on the sun,” concludes Kuhn.

  • Now That We’re All Afraid Of A Cyberwar, The Gov’t Starts Legislating

We’ve discussed the overhyped moral panic around the concept of a cyberwar, and how the term is abused — potentially just as a way for government contractors to get hundreds of millions in easy government contracts. And, it looks like that process has only just begun. Senator Joe Lieberman is apparently about to unveil a “Cybersecurity” bill that doesn’t seem to attack any real issue in making the government more secure. Instead, it looks like it really just seeks to limit competition in what government agencies can purchase. In other words, it’ll just make things more expensive for the government, while probably not doing much to make anything or anyone more secure.

  • Triple Crown of global cooling could pose serious threat to humanity by Kirk Myers

    Article Tags: Kirk Myers

Global warming” may become one of those quaint cocktail party conversations of the past if three key climate drivers – cooling North Pacific sea surface temperatures, extremely low solar activity and increased volcanic eruptions – converge to form a “perfect storm” of plummeting temperatures that send our planet into a long-term cool-down lasting 20 or 30 years or longer.

“There are some wild cards that are different from what we saw when we came out of the last warm PDO [Pacific Decadal Oscillation] and entered its cool phase [1947 to 1976]. Now we have a very weak solar cycle and the possibility of increased volcanic activity. Together, they would create what I call the ‘Triple Crown of Cooling,’” says Accuweather meteorologist Joe Bastardi.

If all three climate-change ingredients come together, it would be a recipe for dangerously cold temperatures that would shorten the agricultural growing season in northern latitudes, crippling grain production in the wheat belts of the United States and Canada and triggering widespread food shortages and famine.

    Cool Pacific Decadal Oscillation

The Pacific Decadal Oscillation refers to cyclical variations in sea surface temperatures that occur in the North Pacific Ocean. (The PDO is often described as a long-lived El Niño-like pattern.) PDO events usually persist for 20 to 30 years, alternating between warm and cool phases. During these long periods there are sometimes short-interval phase switches that can last several years.

  • BigBoysToys.ro

    Distractia e garantata !
