  • Ceramic-capacitive measuring CERTEC

    Which plant operator in the pharmaceutical industry doesn’t know the problem: a pressure transmitter
    switches to fault mode or no longer delivers a valid measured value. It’s actually no big deal, a spare instru-ment is quickly installed and within minutes the new in-strument is working and production is up and running again.

    But why did the instrument fail?
    Damaged or cracked metal diaphragms are one of the most frequent causes of failure in pressure transmitters. The result is that isolating diaphragm liquid
    (50 … 2500 µL), which serves as a transmission medium between separating diaphragm and sensor element, leaks into the process.
    The fault may not even be noticed by the sensor elec-tronics since the product itself also exerts a measurable pressure on the sensor. The exact time of the damage can therefore not always be determined.

    The isolating diaphragm liquids used are generally sub-ject to FDA regulations and are not harmful to health. For the plant operator, however, they represent a product quality risk. The implemented transmission oils don’t mix well with the water-based pharmaceutical products – serious contamination is sometimes the result.

    The pressure transmitters with ceramic-capacitive
    CERTEC® measuring cell from VEGA offer a solution for these quality and validation processes. The ceramic measuring cell works without transmission liquid and ideally satisfies all requirements of the pharmaceutical industry. The measuring cell is dry, self-monitoring and registers both damage to the diaphragm and moisture leaking into the sensor.

    The diaphragm, which consists of sapphire ceramic, is
    10 times harder than high-grade steel and easily defies abrasive media. The ceramic diaphragm and ceramic body are joined together with glass solder, allowing a constant product temperature up to +150 °C. The high surface quality is a guarantor of optimal cleanability and sanitation. This design is rounded out by a sophisticated seal concept. Depending on process requirements, a double seal or a hygienic form seal can be implemented.

  • New Non-Contacting Flow Meter

    The new DFM 5.0 Doppler Flow Meter from Greyline Instruments measures flow from outside a pipe. The clamp-on ultrasonic sensor mounts on any pipe 12.5mm ID or larger. The DFM 5.0 is designed for “difficult” liquids like wastewater, sludge, slurries, abrasives or any liquid with bubbles or suspended solids. Calibration and start-up is simple with the built-in 5-button keypad.

    Standard features include a large, backlit display and totalizer, isolated 4-20mA output and 2 control relays. Options include a built-in data logger and reporting system with USB output and Windows software and intrinsically safe sensor.

    … with new lever actuated options

    Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies, has enhanced its range of high performance directional control valves with the introduction of a lever operated model. With compact dimensions and a rugged construction, the new manually operated VikingXtreme valves are designed to improve productivity in particularly demanding environments, such as those typical of logging equipment, quarrying, commercial vehicles, saw mills and conveyor systems.

    The new manually operated VikingXtreme pneumatic valves have been designed to offer unparalleled flexibility and functionality. In particular, they offer a variety of different circuit configurations, with both 5:2 and 5:3 functions including self centring 5;3 versions. Operation is quick and simple via the multi-position lever arm, which is sufficiently robust to protect it from damage in demanding applications and is designed to be used with gloved hands.

    The compact yet heavy duty valves incorporate innovative spool technology and have been designed for use in pneumatic systems that have to operate at extreme temperatures, between -40 and +60¡ÆC, and at pressures of up to 16 bar.

    In contrast with traditional valves, which typically use O-ring or lip seals between the valve spool and body, the new VikingXtreme valves feature a single piece aluminium spool, over-moulded with a specially formulated rubber compound. This eliminates the problems of seals deforming or extruding under conditions of high pressure or flow, while also reducing the number of component parts and extending operating life.

    As a result, the new pneumatic valves can be used in higher pressure, high flow applications and are available in a range of port sizes, including G¨û¡±, G¨ù¡±, G¨ü¡± and G¨ö¡±.

    The new Training Center with a surface area of approximately 300 square meters offers a wide variety of training options covering all aspects relating to the compressor technology, efficient
    maintenance and operational compressor reliability. It is located at the headquarters next to the main building where the compressors are engineered and manufactured. In order to meet
