  • The Windmill Club – Fall/Winter 2009 Lookbook

    windmillclub-aw09-main

Funny how you discover things through other blogs. Last month, I discovered The Windmill Club A/W 09 Teaser Video through the Pursuit Aesthetic site who saw it on the Sartorially Inclined site, which I then rediscovered again on Steet Etiquette’s Hypebeast blog. That’s pretty much a blog “rule of three,” where if something appears on blogs more than three times, then it surely deserves more attention. The video of course looks great, and I was curious to see what the individual items looked like, to my surprise there was also a lookbook for the A/W collection from the official site. Just like the video, the lookbook is also as crisp and well executed. It’s definitely worth the look again.

  • The Macallan Flight of the Decades

    mcallan-7

There are few names in the boozing world that command more respect than the Macallan label. In honor of some forthcoming products, the esteemed distillers from the Speyside region decided to host an event at the Soho House in New York City, and we are certainly hoping to get an invite next time an event like this rolls around. Tastings from the night included the pre-cask New Make Spirit, cask strength 18-year sherry oak, 50-year, and 52-year vintages. The Macallan ambassadors also appeared to make good use of their revolutionary ice-ball machine, which uses gravity (among other things) to make perfect spheres of ice. Soho House also managed to fuse some of the world’s oldest scotch with up-to-date technology, providing live Twitter updates on flat screens throughout the bar, which no doubt kept the bloggers in full effect that evening.

The building site is located in the village of Sekocin, 20 km south-west from Warsaw occupying 2500 sqm of covered old pine woods. As for the construction, the material used will be concrete insulated with rock wool. Northern and eastern elevations are covered with wooden chunk in the outer skin, with the chunks coming from the trees being cut to have a clean footprint of the building. Wide glazed opening on the south-west elevation open dining and living areas towards wooden surroundings, and the building is surrounded from southern and western side with terraces. The terraces are designed as summer extentions of the living area. Western elevation opens towards recreation yard on the basement level.

  • Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps Trailer

    wall-street-2-trailer

There’s no denying the cultural impact of the first Wall Street film. It defined a new era of greed complete with a supporting cast of fast money, fast cars, grand office spaces, yuppies, suits, and too much hair gel . For the second film, Oliver Stone is back behind the camera with possible hopes of bringing the same impact for 2010 as the first one did in 1987. Will it be as good as the first one? We’re not sure, but the trailer looks great.

In dissecting the trailer we’re first taken into the exit procedures of a maximum security prison. An anonymous character is given back his expensive accouterments when he entered: silk handkerchief, gold watch, gold ring, gold money clip “with no money,” and of course a giant Zack Morris cell phone. Pan to the right and guess who? Obviosuly its Gordon Gecko, and the intro is quite epic. What happens afterward is just a montage of scenes involving Shia LeBouf, helicopters, Josh Brolin, cityscapes, all accompanied by a Gordon Gecko voice over ending with, “Why don’t you start by calling me Gordon.” Like we said, great trailer, which makes us all very hopeful.

  • Dunhill – Fall 2010 Show (With Video)

    dunhill-fallwinter2010-main

Kim Jones’ transition to Dunhill has always made sense, and we’ve been appreciative of his works trying to offer something different from the luxury line. For Fall/Winter 2010, Mr. Jones presents familiar Dunhill styles such as suits, overcoats, and formal wear with some fairly minute yet noticeable details. Everything stays clean and sharp, but we can’t help but point out the tucking of the slacks inside the socks look. We’re not sure if we could co-sign that yet, but it works well with the collection. Take that little detail out however, and Dunhill could give mr. Tom Jones a run for his money when it comes to being the official suit maker of a one Mr. James Bond.

  • Hermès – Fall 2010 Show (With Video)

    hermes-fall20100-main

One thing we noticed about Hermès’ collection for Fall 2010 was its attention to the neckline. Scarves, V-Necks, contrast collars, neckline zippers, turtlenecks, and of course ties caught our attention right away. The suits are perfectly tailored and the other pieces that complemented the suit gave the whole collection a youthful touch. Leathers in the collection such as bags and jackets were obviously superb given Hermes’ reputation for their leather goods. Anyone who has a penchant for exclusivity and fine leather craftsmanship will enjoy this collection.

Loose is the new slim is the 2010 direction for Dior Homme by Kris Van Assche. The high fashion label, which seemed to be the official uniform for the skinny has built a collection around more than just tight fitting pieces. While some of the suits stayed slim and short, other items such as overcoats have gotten the loose and relaxed treatment. Also expect knitwear and trousers to get the get the same design features as well. As a slight depature from Dior Homme’s usual black color range, hues such as gray and brown make their special appearance.

  • Steven Alan x ACL & Co. Oxford Shirts

    stevenalan-acl-main

ACL & Co. teamed up with Steven Alan to produce two Oxford Shirts in black and white as an exclusive release for the ACL Shop. The Moment describes the shirt as: “Alan’s signature truncated fit and single stitching combined with Williams-favored details, like garment-dyed fabric, local manufacturing and a practical flap pocket. In the latter: a stark color scheme that’s a departure from the vintagey, workwear-inspired aesthetic you’d expect from these two.” While Oxfords are nothing new, the construction, fit, and thought process put into the shirts is what makes it special. While some might just frown upon its mundane “that’s already been done” feel, others such as the die-hard ACL fans will appreciate the real quality of the Steven Alan name attached to the ACL & Co. brand.

    Available at the ACL Shop.

  • Pike Brothers Superior Garments Web Shop

    pike-brothers-2

Denimaniac points us out to Pike Brother Superior Garments. The Pike Brothers brand name goes way back. During the 1930s George and Joseph Pike established the “Pike Brothers”. A tailoring shop in the Portobello Road in the heart of London, in Notting Hill. Their specialty: custom made men`s wear. During the Second World War and with the steadily growing number of American soldiers coming to Britain the “Pikes” also specialized in the production of U.S. uniforms for the Army and the Air Force. They combined finest British fabrics together with European craftsmanship with the styles from overseas and created an unmistakable profile. Sturdy American work wear with a European influence, a heritage their followers are still feel obligated towards today. The brands re-launch began with a vintage U.S. Army 1940s Officers Jacket one of the current owners had with the PB label in it. He tracked the company down, registered the name worldwide and started following the footsteps of the original Pike Brothers. Today the brand specializes in high quality vintage army and work wear from the 1930s-50s, with a special focus on their denim fabric, made on vintage shuttle looms.

Pike Brothers items can be purchased through selected shops worldwide or on their online store.

  • Raf Simons – Fall 2010 Show

    raf-simons-main

Raf Simons advances the suit design for Fall 2010 with some avant-garde alterations and added details. The fit for some of the suits are wider at the torso with some having a very streamlined look. Some trimmings are hidden such as the buttons, but are compensated with geometrical patchwork along the sleeves or the pockets. We have some hesitations with other designs such as a skirt and a wrap around waist number, but still Raf is just doing what Raf does best in terms of originality and artistry. If there was a favorite in the collection it would have to be the camel trench coat. The perfect layering and the much needed cinching missing in today’s trenches are nice touches to this all too familiar classic.

The naïve and innocent expression of the clothes tell a story about a snapshot in time of a culture based around polo.” The simplicity of Lagom’s designs and color make it one of the best for the season.
