  • Lanvin – Fall 2010 Show (With Video)

    lanivin-fw2010-main

Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz aimed to define the true characteristics of the French man using a number of different styles for Lanvin’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection. The result, a collection that mixes comfort and ruggedness envisioned in the near future. There’s a lot of draping and layering involved in the construction of the pieces. High technical fabrics give way to the range’s elegance, but also brings structure to the uniformity of the pieces. The cuts are precise and even the oversized items bunch out in a symmetrical way. The addition of oversized backpacks, boots, and gloves cap off the collection’s futuristic look.

  • Palladium – Listen In: Berlin

    palladium-boots-main

Just in time for the Bread and Butter Berlin trade show, Palladium has debuted their fifth Exploration entitled Listen In: Berlin, in part of an ongoing documentary series. Hosted by Tom Littlewood, editor of VICE Magazine Germany, this episode explores the hidden, abandoned and forgotten places around a city known for its deep history and its role as the epicenter of the Cold War.

For Listen In: Berlin, the people at Palladium laced up their boots and took viewers to a mysterious hilltop, once occupied by WWII listening stations. These stations were known to eavesdrop on radio communications between the East and the hidden bunkers underneath the Tempelhof airport. Rumored to have been a hotbed of clandestine espionage, the airport now serves as the venue for the Bread and Butter trade show.

Listen In: Berlin, along with four other explorations are available to view online throughout the Spring / Summer 2010 season. To view Listen In: Berlin please visit http://www.palladiumboots.com/exploration/berlin.

  • Panerai Mare Nostrum PAM300

    panerai-radiomir-mare-nostr

The good folks at World Watch Review give us the lowdown on the Panerai Mare Nostrum PAM300: Originally designed in mid-1940s as an officer’s deck watch, the Mare Nostrum series was put in production 50 years later sporting a two-register chronograph functionality and a tachymeter scale. Although the watch looks rugged and ready for a good piece of the action, it is not actually rugged enough to withstand any serious water pressure and is by no means a diving watch. More than that, Panerai officially rates it for only 30 meters, which basically means that it is not a good idea even to swim in them. Details are scarce, but, judging by the photos, this watch is powered by a very rare Panerai OP XXVIII Calibre, which is based on the vintage Minerva movements produced in the 1940s. Like it is always the case when dealing with “historic” engines, each Minerva movement was disassembled, cleaned, oiled and then put together again to power this limited edition model. The same movement was installed in the 2008 Panerai Ferrari FER-24 Chronograph watch.

  • Dries Van Noten – Fall 2010 Show (with Video)

    dries-vannotenfallwinter-20

At first glance at the outerwear, one might think of military inspiration right away. At a closer look however, you’ll get a sense of a look more in tuned with a new kind of city sophistication. Claimed to be one of the “most cerebral” designers, Van Noten constructs a range that infuses geometry and play on color and patterns to outfit the male form. Stripes, checks, and even outlined shapes on the pieces also give the collection its boxy linear look. Other details such as the composition of having two patterns in one piece evident in the outerwear or some of the shirts and knits, truly make this collection one of the most original during Paris.

  • Gucci Fall 2010

    Gucci-Fall-2010-1

The Milan shows are now just a memory, but we thought we’d do some catching up and talk Gucci. If there were highlights in the collection, we would have to say that it’s the suits. Tailoring in the collection is superb, and the various materials and cuts that the pieces exhibit are true to Gucci’s name. Luxurious and colorful, the overall range itself is sophisticated with hints of glam. There’s also a certain jet-setter element to the collection as bags also made it to the runway.

    illesteva-eyewear-summer-20

Illesteva was one of the few eyewear brands that were on display from our Capsule trip to New York. A lot of the frame designs of the range bring about a fun aspect to eyewear with rounder shapes and other quirky eye catching details. • Jean Paul Gaultier – Fall 2010

    jeanpaulgaultier-fall2010-m

Jean Paul Gaultier takes inspiration from today’s boxing ring gladiators for his Fall/Winter 2010 collection. The range mixes sport and high fashion together, and gave it a rebellious twist. It definitely reflects the attitudes of boxers with the all fight mentality, and with a collection that mixes a lot of rugged pieces such as sweat pants, shorts, tank tops, and boxing shoes, the clothes are surely battle ready for any affair. On a more elegant side, the addition of tuxes and other non sport items such as cashmere, velvet, and knits, still bring about the collection’s “fighting” appearance.

  • Adam Kimmel – Fall 2010 Collection

    adamkimmel-fallwinter2010-m

Presentation wise, this has to be one of the most talked about in Paris right now. Adam Kimmel puts some George Condo masks on his models to exhibit his Fall/Winter 2010 Collection. The result? While the masks make it hard to really pay attention to the garments, we’d have to say that we are thoroughly entertained by the idea. The faces are reminiscent of what could’ve been a Jim Henson attempt at a surreal and scary puppet show. But then again, what can you expect from a guy who skateboards down a hill in a suit at terrifying speeds. With his last collection revolving around modern day cowboys, this collection is definitely something unique, and that’s what you have to like about Adam Kimmel. Every season is something new, and for Fall, expect designs and styles inspired by the casino scene.

  • Nisica – Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection

    nisica-main

Japanese label Nisica follows the philosophy of constructing clothing that is comfortable without having to depart from proper designs. Even for Autumn/Winter, a lot of the pieces are soft and never constricting to the male form. The brand has totally crafted a disheveled style with wrinkled fabrics and subtle ethnic inspired silhouettes and colors. Stripes and plaids are evident in the collection to give it a bit more pop. Still, the collection feels genuine in its craftsmanship and it would be great to see a lookbook where the clothes are styled on someone. One can only imagine for now.

  • Louis Vuitton – Fall/Winter 2010 Men’s Collection

    louisvuitton-fallwinter2010

Marc Jacobs and Paul Helbers plays it conservative and safe with Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2010 Collection for men. While the suits are well tailored as always, some of the outerwear pieces are just a little too oversized. While leather could have been the distinguishable show stopper of the collection, it seems to have held the collection back. Still, the duo has presented a collection fit for any Louis Vuitton man. I personally like the construction of the blazers and some of the knits in the range. If there was a highlight in the collection, it would have to be the bags that came in various styles, patterns, and bold winter appropriate colors.

  • Viktor & Rolf – Fall 2010 Men’s Collection

    viktorrolf-fw2010-main

The house of Viktor & Rolf presents a Fall/Winter 2010 Collection that is as always glamorous and peculiar. While still a very refined range, some idiosyncrasies such as a robed blazer, speckled lapels, paint splattered pants, and oversized knit sleeves give us that familiar Viktor & Rolf theatricality. The suits are well tailored and the attention to detailing on some of the layered styles are worth aspiring for.
