Due to a legislative reporting error, H 4220 was not heard on Thursday, as originally intended. H 4220, introduced by Representative Mike Pitts (R-14), would permanently establish the tax holiday on firearms sales on the weekend following Thanksgiving, which is known as the Second Amendment Weekend. This bill should be taken up in two weeks, due to the General Assembly focusing its attention on the state budget next week. We also hope that the House Judiciary General Laws Sub-Committee will be able to take up H 3994. H 3994, introduced by Representative Garry R. Smith (R-27), would prohibit the establishment of any rules that would forbid the storing of firearms in a locked vehicle in parking lots.

Oregon and Washington: Management Plan Includes Hunting on the Julia Butler Hansen Re
Posted: 03.12.10 08:21 AMThe Fish and Wildlife Service has released a plan to guide management actions for the next 15 years on the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge, a 6,000 acre refuge along the Columbia River in southwestern Washington and northwestern Oregon. The refuge was established to protect habitat for the endangered Columbian white-tailed deer. The preferred management approach calls for opening Crims and Price Islands to waterfowl hunting. One other option would open those islands to waterfowl hunting, but close a small portion of Steamboat Slough to hunting. Public comments can be submitted until Monday, March 29 and emailed to [email protected]. The plan can be viewed at http://www.fws.gov/willapa. For further information please call 360-484-3482. The Service needs to receive support for opening the refuge to hunting. Anti-hunters can be counted on to pressure the Service against it.

Tennessee: Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment to be Considered Next Week
Posted: 03.12.10 08:24 AMSenate Joint Resolution 30 received its second reading on the Tennessee State House Floor on Thursday, March 11. SJR30 will receive a final reading and be voted on by the House on Monday, March 15. This will be one of the final steps in the legislative process to get the Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment on the ballot this November. SJR30 would propose an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution recognizing citizensâ?? right to hunt and fish. It provides truly meaningful protections against the anti-hunting activists who seek to ban all hunting in America. The ultimate adoption of this constitutional amendment would preserve Tennesseeâ??s rich hunting and fishing traditions for generations to come. No action is needed at this time. Please continue checking your email and http://www.NRAILA.org for updates.

Kansas: Anti-Open Carry Agenda Proposed in Topeka
Posted: 03.11.10 07:17 AMOn Tuesday, March 9, during a City Council work session, City attorney Kyle Smith and Police Chief Ron Miller proposed banning the open carrying of firearms in Topeka. In 2007, the city council repealed its ban on the open carry of firearms, so itâ??s unclear why these officials have now proposed reinstituting such an ordinance. Since then, there have been no instances of unlawfulness or violence regarding open carry. The claims and "what ifs" stated by the opponents are unfounded and not supported by any research or facts. They are simply using scare tactics to push more stringent gun restrictions on the citizens of Topeka.

Ohio: Battle over preemption law in State Supreme Court

All three of those rules, however — and there are others the city would like to impose — run contrary to an Ohio gun law that took effect three years ago establishing one set of firearm rules for everyone from Lake Erie down to the Ohio River.
